I'm pretty sure any Mercedes fan will be disappointed if you bring him a spaceship instead. Not that the spaceship would be bad, but it has nothing to do with a Mercedes anymore. Wanting to recognize a sequel as such is not being conservative, it's liking a series for what it is (was in this case).

Ubi could loan from MTG flying artifact. Ubi doesn't use the MTG. I believe that JVC used MTGs.

Warhammer Gladius might be interesting as well.
Seriously, I cannot understand how it isn't obvious for some that the next HoMM game, if it will come, will need a new angle, whatever it may look like, that will let all the know elements shine in a new light. And that new angle has to be something really inspired.

The familiar and respectable people agree on that from what I gather, even if to various extents, only notable exception being Sal. In truth, everyone wants a great game to be made, there's just disagreement about the direction of it. Hopefully, now that even the insider group is out of the picture, the new devs won't take the forum blabber too seriously and have peace of mind to develop whatever they think it's best.

I can assure you, none of the insiders were happy with the direction H7 was taking, and I can also assuer you that H6 is playable only because of what the insiders did (after it was too late and Ubisoft grabbed for any straw). It's pretty ironic that the same guy who did trust them to "fix" H6 after BH was out of the picture, did NOT trust them and their warnings about what H7 was about to become.
That said, I also think, that when it comes to creative stuff, the artists should NEVER listen to fans of what they did earlier, because those are not interested in experiments and development, but only in preservation of what made them fans in the first place.

I liked the development from H2 to H3, then from H3 to H5, so I don't see what you are talking about. Please stop putting words in others mouths.

If you deem these games are superior to Heroes no one stops you from playing them, but I personally want for Heroes to stay Heroes and not turn it into something else like it was done with H4 and H6/H7.

Thankfully, what you want personally for Heroes is as irrelevant and meaningless than waht I or anyone else here want . and that H4, H6 and H7 aren't "Heroes" is complete nonsense. It's tin-foil-hat quality nonsense.

It's not nonsense, these games were not badly received for no reason. Like I said earlier, H5 is the alive proof the H2-H3 foundation is safe and sound, and since it was possible to reproduce such similar gameplay but better, what does that tell you? The people who managed to pull it off thought about all that you label as "irrelevant". It's precisely because of these "new angles" no one actually asked for that H6 was born. You can theorycraft all you want, evidences are here: H2-H3 and H5 were tremendous success, not the others. I feel the need to repeat by that I do not mean it has to be exactly the same and that new ideas aren't welcomed, I just want the sequel to be consistent with the great days of the franchise.
JollyJoker said: It would be safe and sound only, if it was completely clear what made H2 and H3 so well-liked. It's basically like Apollo 11. How could they land on the moon nearly 50 years ago? Or how could they build the Pyramids all these millenia ago?

I quote from Wiki:
Quote: Heroes VI has been received positively, attaining a score of 77 from the aggregate review site Metacritic.[10] Reviewers praised the title's replay value, visuals and improvements to the Heroes formula,[7][11] but were critical of the numerous bugs and glitches in the release version and its intrusive DRM system, which requires players to maintain a connection to the Internet to avail several features.
...
Initially, the game was plagued with numerous in-game crashes, lock-ups, errors, and bugs; poor artificial intelligence; significant faction/hero/creature imbalance; and the usage of DRM.[37] The game has been updated with several patches, bringing the version to 2.1.1.[38][39][40][41] On Sept 25 2013, Ubisoft declared that there will be no more online support on Heroes VI, bringing an official end to the updates.[42]
The game received generally favorable reviews.[10] IGN and GameRadar rated the game 8/10, and it is listed as an IGN Editors' Choice, citing "addictive turn-based strategy" gameplay and "major improvements to a fantastic formula".[7][11] GameSpy and GamePro noted similar positives but lowered their scores due to "little visual bugs and glitches" and a poor online strategy.
Also H6 sold quite well, actually.
By the way, the Metacritic rating of H4 is 84.
And if you care to look and research, then Heroes TWO has been best received from the series, and that is, incidentally the game I would also rate best of the series.

The only reason H6 sold well is because it was the long awaited successor of H5. Most blindly pre-ordered and it made sense, the teasers also looked very good. And please, quoting reviews when we know Ubisoft bought them?
If you were right, H4 and H6 would be the active sections in the forums with tons of mods, but if you notice this is not how it is.

I also think that H2 was the most inspired and creative, however H3 fixed and added various features - without lowering any standards - which finally made multiplayer almost prefect. H2 had so many flaws and exploits that, even if it was a joy to play it over and over, the issue was too predictable if you had a precise race or creature.
The problem here, as I see it, is that JJ never grasped what made those sequels true and inimitable gems - from a higher perspective, he does not like H3 (while H2 is unplayable at long term) so is unbearable for him when someone suggests it should serve as source. Personally I think that the success of H3 came from all the elements mixing like fingers of same hand, sounds, graphics, interface, style and such. So even if not used as a safe base, I think that developers should inspire from the perfection of the recipe which served to make games as H3, civ3, Morrowind and a few more. Not think at one feature at once, but see it as an organic entity, where even the smallest details should aspire towards perfection. I know, sounds platitude but thats it.

Mods? Well. H3 certainly needed one.

Why not? It's not worse than talking about "majorities" and "general reception" and all that crap without any kind of source.
It's meaningless anyway, because Galaad's opinion stands as much as mine. He has no real point, though, that's the difference, just stuff like, "real punkrock doesn't use keyboards", if you know what I means.
