Well, I think these are all elite troops of the empire, even crossbowmen and Sentinels are part of the royal guard.

mike80d said: While I earlier expressed my disappointment in the blandness of the Haven lineup, I think one of my other big issues with it is that it isn't rugged. It's less sparkly than H6, which is a good start, but the armor for all of these units is still pristine and expensive looking.
If I were to design a Haven lineup I would ensure that the Elite and especially the Core units had a battle-torn almost sordid armor look. And they all wouldn't be able to afford to provide full-body armor, which is apparently in abundance in both H6 and H7. From there the Champion unit would definitely be a special fighter who had the best (but still not glamorous) armor that the Empire has to offer.
Nah they look fine to me for the most part. It is fantasy setting afterall.
The only guy who I would like too see having less armor on is crossbowman. He's supposed to be lighter soldier, than melee fighters, and also I immagine it would be hard to aim wearing such helmet. I would prefer him to have chainmail on, than plate - I mean he's even more protected than sentinel ...
Sentinel looks good, and it is in line with reality actualy. If you look roman leginaire pictures you'll see, he was inspired by those. He isn't wearing full plate at all, if you look closely his body armor it more resembles this:
It's not hard to immagine (if you look roman legionaire) that in fantasy settings common soldiers would wear something like that. The only thing that bothers me is their spear is too tick and bulky.
Even Cavaliers in H7 aren't exactly wearing heaviest cavalary armor ever seen in history. It is true, that early medieval knights, and heavy cavalry in roman times were not as armoured as this, but if you tak a look at late medieval knights, they wear even heavier stuff.
Finaly regarding looks, i wouldn't want them to have dirty or torn or damaged equipment. Belive it or not, that is pure fiction, as soldiers in medieval times always kept their gear repaired and well maintained. This was very important, as if your eqipent fails in middle of battle you're dead.

I wouldn't mind rusty, outworn armor. This is a fantasy setting after all.

Maybe we can combine these two with rusty armor on already dead necro soldiers.

yep on undead warriors it's the other was around. Rusty or damaged armor on those suits them quite well.

i wish they would show the faces more. right now only swordmasters and Justicars actually have a face and one of them is champion tier and the other seems to show it just to make us certain it's female like that's supposed to be special in and of itself. crossbowmen and sentinel really need to to open their helmets a bit so we can actually see their faces. other than that i have to agree that it might be the best haven so far. it feels like a professional army rather than some new recruits and civilians forced into service.
i would prefer some less decor in the core tier, however it works ok since the tier system kinda removes the lowest form of soldiers from the system in a way. had they kept the 7 (or 4 from h4) system i'd be all for newly drafted recruits as early units however i'm ok with the current. some less decoration on sentinels and lighter armour on crossbowman would indeed be for the best. unupgraded for both looks great though.
i also want the wolves to be armoured in full plate, but that's more cause it would look cool.

ah wait, wait ... i just now realized how to see the upgraded verisons ... i take everything back - they look as ridiculous as ever
all this time i was refering to normal - non upgraded looks. My apologies. I didn't notice small arrow in corner of pictures... All this time I presumed the upgrade versions were not available to view yet.
That said, i agree justicars and cuirassiers look quite good. And i think all of them would benefit by removing oversized weights from top of their head. Helmet is round for a reason ... to glance blows of. I mean just hook your axe or sword on that sentinels helmet and his neck will snap.

Stevie said: So you practically wish for a return of the Heroes 6 Haven. Because being all bright and shiny equals magical. You do realize that the only things magical about Haven should be the Abbot and the Seraph, right? That's how it was in Heroes 3 and I liked it a lot. That's how it was in Heroes 5 and I liked it too. This is how it's gonna be in Heroes 7 and thank God for that. If you're so in love with magical Haven, by all means go and play Heroes 6. You're part of the minority.
My wish? NO haven at all. They are always the same and only 3 creatures for this town is already an very difficult task to find.
So my wish is for Haven to be gone forever.
But Magical Wolf + Griffon + Magic Healer + Angel + something else + some humans would be a much better thing.
Haven in HOMM6, was the only good thing for me personally, except for the sisters, those should be Zealots from HOMM3, then it would be perfect.

Indeed, it does.
Now, we just need to see these skills, and hope they vary between classes/factions. But, I think that's a bit far away, especially since we are having a break.

This is great news indeed.
Random skills are very important for longevity of the game since every play will be slightly different offering diverse experience on the same map.
And to make this optional is phenomenal.
I really like the path of development of these Heroes!!!

Will skills be completely random or random but with ones having greater chance to appear than another (like in Heroes V)?
