I diasgree. Egyptian themed and undead. It was weakest of the 3 elites so everyone hates it, that is what I think ;P

Galaad said: I am sorry but officially stating these Lich and Vampire models are the one that always represented Necropolis is a lie.
Sorry but... Where is that "officially stated"?
What is written in the Necropolis reveal article is
"several creatures of the Heroes VII Necropolis are very similar to their Heroes VI counterparts. There are several reasons for this:"
and
"Necropolis is the timeless, undying faction. If one faction should remain very similar, art-wise, from one game to the next, it’s the Undead."
"One game to the next" = H6 to H7. Because both games are set in the same universe, that is Ashan. It's never been question of pre-Ashan Might & Magic games anywhere. But all current games are taking place in the same continuity, and in that continuity, Necropolis is indeed the faction that is supposed to remain pretty much the same.

Stormcaller said: In my opinion, it's not worth losing it cause of a single faction. There are others, simply ignore Necropolis if it's not up to your taste ( I know I will ).
Finally some reasonable attitude. I, on the contrary, like old-new Necro. Yes, vampires can have exposed fangs and liches could be more mummy-like but otherwise I find it OK. Itwon't be as good as one in Heroes V (I miss you, Arantir ) but comeback to proper Necromancy and lack of healing extravaganza are both good omens for it, at least in terms of gameplay.

it's not clear for me: will there be a fog of war system (like Homm4) or no fog at all once you've been there (every other heroes)? The answer "same as always" seems to indicate it will be the later option, still it's a weird answer.
PS: love that sea elf pirate! and so much clothes on a girl (for a change) is nice! ;-)

To name some Mother Namtaru (The boss) was a design that made my jaw drop when I first saw it. Mermaids/Sirens were another example as I already wrote today.
As LW said Sanctuary, Stronghold and Dungeon had some good ones. Pit Lords from Inferno to add to these.
It is true that the ones from necro that got copied were some of the "overdone up to the level "please no"", but I won't bash the good things, I'll bash the bad ones and praise the good instead.

@VieuxSinge: Heroes IV isn't always, so the more traditional (from other Heroes games) Fog of War would come back.

Was there an option in H6 to remove fog of war? I don't recall, haven't played it much. I know you couldn't in H5.

Thanks Marzhin for your answer but
Necropolis is the timeless, undying faction. If one faction should remain very similar, art-wise, from one game to the next, it’s the Undead.
Then this is too open for interpretation. To my understanding it implies the franchise started with Heroes VI, therefore suggesting the old universe never existed.
If Ashan stopped keeping to overstep over the games all grew up with, there would may be less rage.

Yes but the art style of H5 was done by Nival independently from Ubisoft (at least until Tribes of the East). Back then Ashan was still in flux (it only started to fully appear with Dark Messiah and Tribes of the East). Long story short, from a visual point of view most units from H5 are not considered IP-compliant.

Set in the future, and with Grim Riders H7's lineup looks now more like H5's. Bone Dragons are back, Vampires even have the same stance. I foresee the main point here wll be about Liches, but they may get more skeletal with more age. And we haven't seen Archliches
Although H7's lineup will be closer to H6's than H5's even plot-wise.

The standard way - by walking around or by using special buldings in Haven towns or one of Pets from Conflux to discover selected bits of maps (eligible to be activated one time per week).

you know it's the strangest thing, because I heard Ubisoft at the time actually pushed Nival to "borrow" from Warhammer
a publisher is a fickle thing I guess hue hue hue

I see, no then. I was refering to system options. I sometimes find it annoying when you play an S sized map and yet you still can't see what the enemies are doing. :/

I understand your frustration, but Might & Magic and Heroes are not limited to Heroes III either.
We're talking about a franchise that's existed for almost 30 years. Even the old universe had many different looks for the same units. My favourite Might & Magic world was XEEN, which is very different from Enroth. And even within Enroth the Vampires of H3 looked nothing like the Vampires of H2. The Orcs in H2 were orange pigs and in H3 they were brown/green humanoids, etc.
And current games are not set on Varn, Cron, Terra, Xeen, Enroth, Ardon or Axeoth, but on yet another world, Ashan, with its own creatures, some familiar, some not so much. But you can't blame Ubisoft for trying to have at least some consistency between the games set on that particular world.
Regarding the Stronghold info, I guess it will be "not so soon".
