buildings pop out a bit more, which is very appreciated by me. original is ok, but a bit monotonous. buildings don't really... pop like they should.

I think what he meant is, that even if you have several colors, the TS feels like one big block.
IMO Minastir made the buildings a bit more distinguishable already.

Similar to what Galaad said, there is lots of of other colour in small amounts; however, the dominant colour is green. Now of course this is expected given how it is a mass of trees, but the fact it is night gives everything a bluish-green tint which I find monochrome. This was why I was in favor of day-light as it would distinguish things better.

personally, I have a hard time to accept these townscreens because I don't think they're very good, they feel cheap lol
this IMHO is the best townscreen we ever had for the elves, very soulful, I would love to see it surpassed

I don't think is a problem of night or day tbh. Take for instance the old fan-made Grove Town for HOMM3, everything is distinguishable, even if there is trees etc:

More colour is used in the grove town; the elven one we have now uses predominantly three green, brown, and white(possibly gold and blue too which would make five but eh)which with the moonlight meld into a bland blur so to speak at least in my opinion.

Green! Blue! Silver! Purple! Yellow! Even bits of red! HOW IS THAT REMOTELY MONOCHROME?!? Heck, it's not even MUTED - just a little shaded because, y'know, NIGHT!
Well, it was more meant that colors are just variants of colors green and blue (and sometimes purple). There are also details colored in yellow and orange, but do not "stick out".

What do they even have in common beyond "there's water in places"?

That's the problem we got this pond looking bullcrap instead of giving us something forest related.

looking back at it, even that Sanctuary they patched into Heroes 6 under duress is more artistically accomplished to me than the screens they're doing now lol

I understand that it's shaded because it's night but it's not a painting but a Townscreen The buildings should be visible, distinguishable and easy to find on the TS if somebody would prefere direct acces to them by clicking on the TS, I have mostly changed the temperature and white balanced because it seems that author applied cyan photo filter to the picture, which made it monochromatic
EDIT: For example on the small picture of the TS you posted above, you see,it all blends, on the right side of the picture it's hard to tell which building is which

Really? REALLY? That's all the criteria we need? A standing pool of water?
OH NO! Academy has grassy bits! IT'S A RIPOFF OF HAVEN OMGWTF?!?!?
...that's how pathetic that comparison is.

By the light of Eärendil! I forgot that "night setting" won the voting. Awkward...
TS is quite nice, but at the same time it feels kinda cheap, especially with that comic-booky foreground. Structure-wise though I see some nice building here and there (Grail, umm Tear of Asha structure, Dragons lair etc). The TS has a nice feel to it, yet it's a no-brainer that it will trigger all kind of "I say, tis Lothorien I see my jolly good Friend!" or "Kaldorei (Night Elves) be here" comparisons...
PS: "Sun Garden" seems a bit out of place here :]

I didn't expect to say this too, since I'm a big fan of anything new(mostly) and I really hate nostalgia, but this townscreen does not look good still better than H3 townscreen of course (yes i said it,especially when i remembered it when someone posted it here, ugh)
but it feels a little cartoonish and honestly when i think of a rural/nomadic-like elves, those fancy buildings don't come to mind.... AT ALL!
and of course i didn't vote for the tree because it was in heroes 5. enjoy people who are afraid of anything remotely new -.-
an enchanted forest in the night would look way better.
it looks like high elves live there and i imagine the blade dancer and the hippy dryad to get treated like plebs from the high fashion pixie, hot-heels druid and the golden stag! the units seriously look out of place in a townscreen like this. oh well we'll have to live with it:/

Well mods can change that.
Edit: I also prefered enchanted forest.
