Thanks for preview, the editor looks gorgeous. It looks to me that perspective of view changes from one screen to another, different angles, I hope this will not disturb much the overall, when checking and balancing geometrical forms and all that stuff..
As for forced passability, a patch offered that for Heroes III as well, and from then a bunch of strange maps came out, where players got confused about being able to pass through almost everything. Is a good tool but when overused it minimize the usual tricks a mapmaker has to create to make this of that passable. What is interesting is to force the player to constantly have a curious eye on shapes and recognize where is the hole.

Nice article Marzhin and the map editor also looks very good.
One thing got me a bit confused though:

Why not include it in the game? That way also the buyers not familiar with the shadow council will have access to your map. And, the more maps the better. Or do you fear you might not be able to finish it before the release?

This changes things much. Not just random map generatior, but the fact you can make some other things as well.
Just wish we adressed some things so strongly they would've been also implemented the way that would appeal everyone.
I don't doubt to make the random map generator has costed much time and money. Would this be the strong point for H7?
Well, at least that article brings some major optimism.

Oh and yeah, vampire and lich got the 3D models. Just the way one would want them to be: terrifying and powerful.

Btw Lich and Vampire 3D models are there on Necro page, they look very good IMO.

I'm ecstatic that this game will have a quality Map Editor. While a RMG is nice, I'm skeptical that it'll be able to create a map that doesn't feel cut & paste, etc.
Modding is also really awesome since I think the HOMM (yes, I will always call it that) community is superior at creating a creative and balanced game. Awesome news all around.

It's just to have more time. Offering it for download on the site allows me to be able to work on it til the very end. It could be included in a patch as well, though. But I kinda like the idea of using it as a tutorial to explain where players must put the custom maps, etc.

Holy Sh!t !!!! That Vampire is awesome. I like Lich too but vampire rules!
Regarding maps, my main concern is RMG. Its essential for longevity of the game.
I hope it wont be too complicated, like before, and that it will produce playable maps without need for intervention from map editor.

Shouldn't the Upgraded Vampire name be changed though? It's not a vampire knight anymore... I won;t go as far as to ask for flavor text change, but the name no longer fits.
Great models btw! The Lich animation is a bit off for me, how he pulls the spell out of the book but i'll get used to it!

Great article Marzhin! The best news in weeks. Looking forward to the RMG article.
Can you tell me how many layers a map can have? Besides overground and underground if I wanted to add a level under the sea or up in the sky could I mod in terrain features and use them as a 3rd or 4th level on the same map?
Also could I ask you to take a picture with trees foliage on max density? I asked about tree density yesterday because the maps and videos shown sofar have only shown very sparse trees and it made the maps look somehow more emty then they actually were.

It's already been changed ingame, but indeed we need to change the names on the website as well. It's Vampire/Vampire Lord now.

You can actually add as many levels as you want, but you need to use the Advanced Mode. We have planned a tutorial for that at some point (it's not very complicated once you know how it's done).
If you add too many levels it will almost certainly have an impact on performance though ^^
