Fans make petitions for UBI to remake Heroes III just with HD textures with complete redraw, bugfixes etc.
Fans get Heroes III remake with HD textures lifted graphics.
Fans are not happy fooled.
FTFY
That being said, I'm still happy something is happening.

Quote: And this also begs another question: did Ubisoft even contact Buka for the source codes of the missing components of NWC's inventory?
Dude, I didn't ask Ubisoft about that. Perhaps you can do it.
I said what I know. Buka definitely has the source codes for Heroes 1-2-3-4, and probably Chronicles too. I have a Russian official localisation disk of Heroes 3 SoD with the Ubisoft logo on it. I can take a photo of it. But yes, we have Heroes series localized in Russia since the NWC's times. Nival, a company which created Heroes 5, is a Russian company too. Buka, on the other hand, is just a game publisher.
I don't doubt in Buka having source codes, because their localisations are made in another way than we modders translate the games/mods. Heroes 1-2, for example, contain all their text in the exe file, and a tiny mistake can ruin many game aspects (like we have several pirate localisations of HoMM2 which have fatal bugs)
Quote: Makes me wonder, though, if the Russian site got this image, why isn't it shown on the Ubi site itself?
It's a seemingly effective practice to send various screens to various sources, to make people visit many at once. Riotpixels.ru is a very large gaming info resource. I don't doubt it's official collaboration.
Quote: It's like different artists worked on them, without coordinating effects that are present in just about every graphic.
Not exactly, it's just artists who were working in a big hurry and who didn't have strict rules for what they do (as we may notice, the main graphic style fits best for mobile devices).

I can imagine there are people who would enjoy an updated version of HoMM 3, but for me personally it has no value. What makes the current HoMM 3 still attractive, still worth playing, is the fact that it ís old and that it looks old. Its graphics are dated, it looks a bit clumsy compared to the recent installments, but that's all part of a certain nostalgy. Patching it up like this kind of takes that away for me.
Respect its age and corresponding looks, why change it?

I always thought this kind of remake would be pointless, and I didn't change my opinion. First, I will not give any mony for this, because I already own HoMM3 Complete. Also there is HD mod (yeah, it doesn't change the graphics, but I already like them) and there are three gems: VCMI, ERA and HotA.

aw dude wtf is this?
is that supposed to be an honest comparison image?
why did they use the adventure map sprites for the original and battle sprites for HD? that's totally misrepresenting the original

That's what I tried to say in my first post in this thread.
Yes, they put smaller versions of adventure map creatures and compared (sic) them with the actual creatures in battle to provide a better contrast. As you can see, the angles are different.
It's still a surprise for me why Ubisoft doesn't have all 3D Max scenes for creatures. With them an HD remake would make much more sense.
Fixing the Archangel wings growing from his butt? No, we save the classics!

The original spites are actually censored thus the pixelation, Verriker. The raw, pure retro graphics would simply be too much for the newer generation to handle, not enough strong colours and effects. But seriously, these artists cannot have much respect for the original aesthetics when they make such obvious changes as you can see by looking at the Titan's gladius in that particular picture. Tablet market for sure. I think that's the most common fault of all of these so called 'HD' versions nowadays. Too much is simply either lost or changed without being faithful in the transition, and so they might not be worth to play over the originals.

Can you check my question in the music thread instead of making silly jokes here, I'm thinking about blackmailing Hans Zimmer with a law suit and getting rich, we can split the money in half.
