Has it occurred to you it is not about pushing the beta date, but how info was handled?

You got it dead on!! Who waits till a few days before launch to make sure everything is ok. They had to of known of these issues before they did their live steam on it. Yet they still never communicated anything.

Yes, they should have voiced their concerns about the flawed beta-version as soon as they found out. They took a gamble though, probably thought it could be fixed up untill release. It was risky, and i failed. If they had succeded no one would have known.

They were in a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't scenario. Release a crappy beta with memory leaks and everyone shreds your game. Delay the beta and people lose confidence in the development process.

The issue of the new version is an interesting point. Either they truly tried a quick fix and were testing it, or they lied to stall for time. It matters which is true, but they delayed communication on the hope of a fix. Now they can'take go back.

Why would you complain about a crappy beta?

seriously, people. The beta is supposed to be crappy. if you're not ok with that you should wait until the game is released. If i see anyone complain about the beta being bad, i will only laugh.

They could have softened it though, by simply stating up front that they were experiencing problems that might interfere with the actual release of the beta, but that they were still aiming for it.

We are talking about ubi here, their reputation hasn't appeared out of the blue, they earned it, if it was another company that would be acceptable, but for ubi things get to pile up extremely fast. It's not entirely ubi's fault however, some people expect beta to be getting a functional game in advance, not bug-finding, and they also reward's ubi bad behavior by continuing to buy their products, so they will always go for compromises and not actually putting enough effort to pull out a decent game.

I don't disagree, Maurice.

In a best-case scenario, I imagine testers reported on Friday that the memory leak rendered the game unplayable after X minutes. As it was the weekend, the development team was not around (or intermittently available), and they tried and failed to rush a fix on Monday. Likewise, the community manager was not available to communicate.

In the worst-case scenario, I imagine testers reported on Friday or sooner about the memory leak. Developers were available and working on it. The community manager was aware of it but chose not to inform people on the hopes that the fix would come in time to save face with an on-time release of beta.

The truth probably lies somewhere in between those two hypotheticals. I respect those who feel Ubisoft no longer deserves their hard-earned money. I have decided that I can take a flyer on $50. If the game sucks, I am out $50. If the game is great, I will more than get my money's worth. Even in the case of Heroes VI, I certainly have gotten my money's worth from that game so far.

apparently their tactic is to bore us with details why they failed to deliver the beta and article about beta till the release

also beta might not be released next week

"This process takes some additional time, so to be on a somewhat realistic timing we prefer to assume "next week" for the release."

Those bug descriptions are actually an accurate description of the state that Heroes 5 had at public release.  So there is hope?

To me, their stance is positive. They are being sincere. They have problems and they are trying to fix them. They overreached and now they seem (or pose as) humbled.

That's not bad.

It is my hope that the sooner those bugs are fixed for the beta, the sooner those same issues can be addressed on the final product before release.

I do believe that they should spent some time on those technical issues as they called them, because, I'd rather have a playable game albeit a bit unbalanced, rather than a game that crushes, slows down or corrupts my saves.

Unfortunately this was the first post I saw in this thread, and naturally concluded that the gameplay met or exceeded your expectations.  Upon further review, that is not accurate at all lol.
