Declaration for the future of Heroes
Day by day, I see wretched things here and on SC, where new fans bash the old ones and vice versa. It is time to announce a declaration, where I claim that Might & Magic just ended on Heroes V: Tribes of the East.
Deep down I only feel an emptiness, seeing what Heroes (or Might & Magic in general) has turned into. But, to keep any more fighting, I would hereby declare that Ubisoft does not make Might and Magic games anymore. Hence why they replaced the "and" word with an & [ampersend] sign.
I know that Heroes III is the greatest game (but not perfect) and seeing Ubisoft's attempts to make better games to I know they won't be able to do it, certainly not today. However, let them make their own games, for, to me, they just don't feel right. Let them make games, let them make new fanbase, let them do everything, for it is not something I wish to be a part of.
By signing this declaration, I declare that the Might & Magic: Heroes VI, Might & Magic: Heroes VII, Might & Magic X: Legacy and other games Ubisoft will develop have absolutely NO relations to the older Might and Magic games developed by NWC and published by 3DO.
The purpose to write this declaration is to avoid any bashing of new and old fans. Or rather yet, fans of Might and Magic and fans of Might & Magic. It is tiring to see who's right and who's wrong, with no actual purpose to annoy each other.
Sign this declaration if you wish to, whatever side you belong to.
P.S. If this declaration has offended anyone, then I apologise, but it is the truth I see.

And yet it looks like it's exactly trying to continue the battle. You clearly state your personal opinion, which is okay. However, you want the "other side", the fans of the new games (including me) to admit that Ubi's work has nothing to do with Heroes of Might and Magic. You are tired to see the 'who is right, who is wrong' fight, but you are forcing us right into that. You want us to admit we are wrong all along, and that the new games we like have no part in the franchise?
No, Energy. That is not what I am going to do. To me, H6 and H7 are as much part of the franchise as the games of the NWC era are.
EnergyZ said: but it is the truth I see.
Exactly. Your truth, and now you start forcing that onto everyone, trying to make them sign a declaration. This is not bridging the gap between two worlds, this is forcing one into submission of the other, IMO.

I am not claiming everyone was wrong. Maybe I should redefine the declaration: there's two sides, the NWC side, and then there's the Ubisoft side.
It just feels tiring to see "battle grounds" all over, people struggling to make points and get ignored all over. And for what?
Besides, I am not forcing you, hence why I did write "Sign this declaration if you wish to" part.
Ignoring all of this, how would you handle with this problem? Just letting people argue all the time is not how the problem is being handled, nor solved.

Why should it be solved? A forum is designed to be a place where fans meet and discuss, you can hardly expect everyone to look in the same direction. That would be the end of it, you'll only get praise, mods and things. If a franchise takes a turn like Heroes did, at one point you will get two camps, two fanbases that will end up in a clash. Everyone has his/her own preferences and you cannot hope to reconcile those. So people argue, over a game, as it is meant to be.

So what you are saying is that Galaad has been unfairly blocked? Or is harassed for trying to make his points at SC?
Or if you don't claim this, then why all the hostility is meant on this site, the Shadow Council, or anywhere else?
Quote: Why should it be solved?
So you'd rather want the places to be disorganized, full of arguing, yelling, bickering and complaining not only on the game, but on people as well? Or if you don't, then why are there still people that think "Heroes fans as the worst community they have ever seen" or "you are just a bunch of whining kids" or "noobs" or even "Ubisoft is brainwashing the Heroes fans"? Is that what you want?

Imo the blocking was mostly due to insults being thrown from one to another, which is something one should never do in any discussion, no matter how much you love the topic in question.

Even when organized the place will still be full of bickering and arguing, just watch what happens here at HC from time to time. Mods have to intervene here as well, you know. Only, the discussions will be far more civilized and constructive. On a place like SC people behave like a loose cannon because they can do so, and unfortunately lack the common sense to be different. That is also a problem: you can try to regulate everything and put fences wherever you expect a mob, but you can't stop the nature of some people.
How people see the community is their party, I don't care. As long as they see me behave, I'm good with it .

What was wrong with MMX? And do you consider H4 to be part of the heroes franchise?
I agree that H6 failed to deliver and made quite a few changes for the worse and i agree that H7 unfortunately seems to keep some of those changes. However, i see that the devs try to improve on the features that failed in H6 and from the few hours of demo that i played i have to say H7 sure did feel like heroes to me.

Galaad got in trouble because he was cussing up a storm and insulting everybody. It wasn't because of his pro-NWC views, but how hostile he projected him.
In any case, I roll my eyes at your "I reject your reality and substitute my own" mentality. Guess what, buddy? You can throw up all the mental walls you want, but the fact of the matter is that other people will still consider it the same series, other people will still care about the previous games in the series, and other people will still come here to discuss it.
If you throw up such arbitrary barriers of "No, you like H7 - that is NOT part of the Heroes series! GET OUT!", that's going to hurt this community FAR more than your perception of the Ubisoft games. It's the epitome of elitist snobbery - the very "old man shaking his cane that those darn kids" mentality - that this community gets criticized for already... and you want to INCREASE IT?
If anything, this will simply disgust newcomers from ever wanting to play the NWC games, if THAT'S the "us versus them" mentality they promote. Way to indirectly kill the community.

Steyn said: What was wrong with MMX? And do you consider H4 to be part of the heroes franchise?
Well devs stated MMX wasn't very successful. Besides, they wanted to bring in old-school experience, yet they had zero mention of sci-fi part. Yet it was said that they wanted to bring the "old school" experience. Probably other flaws there.

See, I don't know how you guys point such big flaws. The goal is just to end these conflicts by just ignoring things: you ignore old games and we would ignore new ones. I can already read "Ubisoft has the rights now, deal with it".
I see your points. But has anyone else made any better suggestions how to handle that? Point is just to end this bickering about. It feels whatever negative criticism (which is to point flaws) the user tells about is tagged as complaint, then the user fights back and all of this just digs a bigger and deeper grave.
Besides, you can see well how much Ubisoft tries to change itself. 0%. At least I am trying here to do something before something big is about to happen. For this opposition of one single community is getting down on people. Not just Galaad, but other people there as well.

And you seriously think building a community Berlin Wall is going to solve that?
Oh, and I noticed that you specifically set aside Heroes 6, 7, and M&MX. So, uh, how do you plan to reconcile this little division when Heroes 5 is still considered a Heroes game, but is still in continuity with two "non-Heroes" games? Either H5 gets booted like the rest of the Ubisoft community, or the Ubisoft fans are arbitrarily told "Nope. That's Heroes, the rest are not." NOBODY WINS.

Maybe it was a foolish decision, but some action has to be taken. Now. Before it is too late. The tensions build on and on. While not politics, either side might brand each other as the enemy and things may escalate. People like Galaad (and very likely some others) are getting in conflicts because of the game (and the publisher as well). I don't... like that.

Because it was back then when Ubisoft didn't hold the rights so tightly to alter everything? Just compare Heroes V's features with Heroes VI. Even now they are retconning Heroes V to suit their needs.

All I can do is lol really loud! A month ago, I started a thread in order to address this issue: War of Might and Magic and it was totally ignored by everyone. And after awhile, you are also raising the concern about this (though there are also some people who were pointing to this, but nothing was done, ignoring is a thing here I guess...). So, sorry to disappoint you, this community will not do anything regarding that. They would rather slaughter one another here, lol at each other, or at the very end stop eventually coming here.
For all I care, I would just drop a virtual bomb here and be done with everything! Lol!

Nah, is not their fault if they think original games are bad and flawed and ugly and they say h3 vampires looks like rabbits. Is because all they know is Ubi-Heroes, they are IMO misguided, I blame no one else than Ubisoft, even if I can loose my nerves down this hellplace named Shadow Council.

Oh, I believe that something can be done, but I hold no power over things here, so I cannot change anything. But others clearly do not want to change that or you would have seen some threads about that or at least some action... It is always easy to pretend that everything is fine...
You have only two options to deal with this. You can either stay and endure the war, until you go mad (the hard way), or you leave HC after some time (the easy way) as some members have already done.
@Galaad
You cannot blame Ubi for someone's preference. It is silly.
