Should Dwarves have Machines and Flying ones?
In seeing how Dwarves are implemented in other fantasy games such as Warcraft and Warhammer, i wonder, should Ashan Fortress or Dwarves in general in heroes games have machinery and also flying machines?
What do you think?

Dwarves stay more in caves and tunnels than they do in the sky. Don't mix one fantasy with the other.
But, it would be really cool if there was some ancient technology that allows the characters (whether in MM or Heroes) to visit the sky.

never played warcraft and other stuff like that. i get the machinery part, but the flying machines???? don't scare us like that
i'd like to see smth more magical than inventions like fire spirits, giants, lava lizards, bear riders, the works
so no lets hope they don't make them exactly like that.

I do agree that dwarves live in caves (Volcanoes or very deep tunnels close to lava in Ashan). And Chris, Defenders, Valkyries, Fire Giants and Bear riders are the only units we know are certain to appear in the lineup.
That doesn't mean though that the dwarves will have only one flying unit (Valkyrie), unless they have 3 shooters and/or a teleporter, they will have something else flying.
Now, what i ask is if Dwarves in Ashan should be engineers as well (as the general myth behind dwarves suggest) or not. A flying Machine is just to introduce something new to the world of Ashan and i do not mean outside the boundaries of high fantasy (no Forge or sci-fi thingy).
Examples:
Gyropter
Flying steam cannon
Hot Air Baloon Canon

I know someone who I bet would have an interesting take on this, but it's been quite a while since he last posted.

Interesting take as a good thing, or as a yelling until i can't speak no more thing?
How about you Galaad? What do you think?

I have the feel Heroes Dwarves are more magical and not technical. So no, maybe one rune construct but nothing like a gyrocopter or steam tank.
Even if there is Bran Brinstone and his "unholy" ship of fire and water.

I really hope they won't make dwarves into some technology based team. I don't wanna see some gyro-choppers or muskets in HoMM. I'm rather hoping they will make most of dwarves as builders/smiths and allow them to mold battle-grounds by erecting objects like walls, covers and traps there.

Mechanical stuff: yes. I'd love to see cannons, machine guns, steam tanks and the like. That stuff is really cool.
Flying machines might be pushing it though

As far as I have seen Ashan dwarves are more into magic. In H5 the only hints of technological advancement were runic warmachines and cheaper capital building. Perhaps fortifications too? I forget.
I don't much care about technological gizmos but I do want cannons. Oh yes I do.

I am just asking, because i can't see how a lineup (without only dwarves as in Heroes V) can come to be.
The draft of it looks like this:
Core: Defender, ????, ????
Elite: Valkyrie, Bear Rider, ????
Champion: Fire Giant, Magma Dragon
But, Bear rider can just as easily be a core unit and Valkyrie just as easily a champion one. Rune Priest is probably going to be one of the hero classes so i don't know if it will appear as a unit as well.
That leaves some places open for a machine like construct (i hope not another golem anw). Also, except from Valkyrie, there are no flyers and so far, no teleporter and an unknown number of ranged units.

This would have been a nice poll. But I say no because game lack mythology and Norse mythology is awesome!

Steam tank for elite. STEAM TANK FFS! and Valkyrie for champion. She's like a cool angel
There are bears, possibly. And trolls. trolls would work great together. Rune priests are guaranteed for elite as far as I can tell: only stronghold doesn't seem to have a mage elite shooter...

It would be nice to get a line up that actually stands out from the rest. First, identify a common occurrence: elite shooters. Dwarves are typically strong so they could fit a bulky, slower moving faction. If some machines were to make it in, I'd be okay with it IF AND ONLY IF, they would be in place of the dreaded Ashan dwarf warriors that will likely ruin the faction (again).
What I would like to see:
Core: dwarf, cave bear, troll (ranged, strongest core)
Elite: battle boar, frost or mountain giant or maybe a steam tank, Valkyrie (flying, strongest elite)
Champ: Fire giant (ranged), dragon
What I expect:
Core: dwarf, ranged dwarf, dwarf riding a bear
Elite: rune priest (cause we lose our heads without an elite shooter), dwarf, myth unit
Champ: Valkyrie made to look like a dwarf, dragon
Random thought but the undead Einherjar warriors could be cool but it would be the first undead unit outside of necropolis. Maybe as a neutral if people don't agree.

I'm not really a fan of one race having more advanced non magical technology than the other because it leads to stuff feeling awkward later.

LoL. That being said, going from iron golems to iron dragons feels like a natural progression. Going from that to helicopters or tanks doesnt

Einherjar is mixed with the Valkyrie already so i doubt it (Ashan valkyries being a conglomeration of fallen dwarven warrior spirits iirc)
Their lineup would probably have 3 dwarves yes (melee, ranged and elite mage) A battle boar would be nice too.

Two thoughts:
1. Valkyries in Ashan look like human woman (here is a proof.)
2. I would do one change in the "desired" lineup. This would be making Fire Giant/Thane a teleporter instead of a shooter. I believe that atm we have more than enough of these.
In Might & Magic X Rune Priests can master club- and spear-fighting. Why not make them use these weapons instead of standard staff? This would definitely make them more interesting.

They exist in Warcraft II, though .
Simple but effective machines, with a large Line of Sight. I know, they are actually called "Gnomish Flying Machine", coming from a Gnomish Inventor, but even so.
