Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is really trolling or really stupid. The first one reminds me, my father had a fellow student in America that was saying they should cut down all the trees. Because they suck up all the oxygen. Snows.

I think the headline is a bit misleading.
E.g. the science teacher never claimed "solar panels sucks up all the energy from the Sun", but was worried plants wouldn't grow well in the shadows they cast. I think it may have been her husband who did.
IIRC the reason the town didn't go for it was fear of how the ecosystem would be influenced or something along those lines, but if all it takes to make such a headline is a single person to make a stupid claim no matter how serious it is taken, then I think it is a little far fetched.

He got arrested because.. he offered $5,000 for a strand of Hillary Clinton's hair.
Whether in jest or serious, he was judged as a danger to the community and was refused bail. It wasn't a good idea to make so many enemies, was it?

Only too happy for that. Heh, this reminds me of a soldier that was caught stealing money from a fellow soldier back in Cyprus. He got prison time from the commander next day, for the most ridiculous reason I'd ever heard

What I wonder is, did internet with its vast flow of misinformation and pseudo-science, created its own dark age or were these people always there but we just didn't know. In all my life, I have never seen a flat earther but during these last few years, they always make the news because of their tweets and so on. Are we discovering them or is ignorance wrapped up in conspiracy (wake up) a new rising trend?

We don't have too much of those here, must be post-Soviet country syndrome. Actually, we have much more of "U.S. / Israel is behind everything." While nationalists tend to blame America more, Muslims usually go for Israel.

Some of both.
Public knowledge of science is on average increasing, but the internet has allowed the ignorant to wield megaphones, so these groups are much more organized than they used to be and able to connect to each other.
So yeah, the internet has kind of brought on a miniature dark age.
