Let's compare the years of releases shall we?

JollyJoker said:
Err ... you are of course all well aware that M&M Heroes VI also had the "codename" DYNASTY, right?

Heroes of Might and Magic 6 dates as far back as 2010 and in 2011 saw the very first major DLC + 2012 saw the second release of yet another major DLC to the original title of Heroes 6.

Then, Heroes 6 got its one and only expansion of Shades of Darkness in 2013. So...Heroes 6 was developed gradually and surely through three(3) Windows Operating Systems. Windows 7(SP1)+ 2 more years then Windows 8(v.6.2)in 2012 + Windows 8.1(6.3) in 2013.

People had to wait 2 more years for both drastic releases of the newest operating system of Windows 10(vanilla edition @ version 10.0) and, the test edition of Might and Magic Heroes VII in the season of Autumn of 2015.

Ever since, Windows 10 saw a total of 7 whole versions until the end of the year of 2018(v.1809) Took 2 whole years until we got the expansion of Trial By Fire as for M&M Heroes VII. The year was 2017.

That YouTube video of that mobile version/edition is a fully rendered in chinese and showing texts in full chinese writing on that video making person's smart-phone. The video was made in Summer of 2018 in order to promote that awesomely made strategy game(as for their own asian tastes anyway).

It has nothing to do with Heroes 6 at all. Heroes 6 was abandoned for further development onto it all ever since 5 whole years before the launch of that mobile game(2013 to 2018).

I was merely echoing the past that you might have skipped altogether.

You know that on this moment, no such major modifications that were made specifically for Heroes 3, are literally un-installable because it can not recognize the WoG Galaxy installation string of directories. For some reason, only Baratorch's HD mod seem to know where the Heroes 3 Complete is truly installed and, fully functional on my Win. 10 Home x64 O.S. of an 8 core processor die of a desktop machine.

J.J. stay with Heroes 3, 4 and, maybe 5 as you are still stuck back there. A past long forgotten by me and, many more.

Luc, I have to say that your whole historical dissertation about Heroes 6 completely goes off-road with respect to the discussion at hand. The whole Windows version description is completely irrelevant, too.

The only thing JJ was saying was that "Dynasty" as a title is ambiguous at best, since it was also one of the labels attached to Heroes 6.

If you look at gameplay videos at youtube than it's 99.9% the duel mode from Heroes VI - and that's why "Dynasty" makes sense, considering that this was the title Ubisoft gave H VI internally.

To be perfectly clear about it: Dynasty looks to be the H6 duel mode as a game ported to Android for the mobile market.

The Dynasty word was used back then a pure lore thingie.

Movie intro. that is truly touching at best.

The story telling is linked to these stupid campaigns that never mattered to all true strategists such as myself.

These computer games are an extension of a true board game that we all used to play on the kitchen table or in a playground like room of any type of house that you might have inhabited ever since the 1980's.

To separate the game from the computer is pretty damn dumb. In all families, the PC always evolves as time itself goes by.

So...that is why Might and Magic Heroes series will eventually fade into nothingness as the future decades goes by. The game's developers refuse to evolve the game to a more historical view of each factions that see these factions grow as the course of that map played creates a sense of time continuum that must not be denied.

The game must become more than a mere board game or else. Trust me on this one, you do not want the else part to become a permanent every day reality.

Even Marzin agree with me that the traditional HOMM player community is to thin to justify the allways-growing costs of HOMM games, and the Might and Magic license have to renew/enlarge its audience in order to survive !

That's not really true. The POTENTIAL audience has been big enough. AoW3 sold a lot.
You have to make a cool game, though, and flops don't help.

And you may want to not put everything in 3d graphics.

Yea, seems to me the always growing costs were self-imposed, graphics taking 50% of the budget and such. What they need to do is to better manage their resources, spend where it counts the most for the success and longevity of the game. I'd argue that's on the content and gameplay side - factions, creatures, mechanics, features, etc.

Lots of the costs are Creatures, Heroes, terrains,etc...

Ressource and people management is a thing, but you have to make the game appealing to attract new audiences !

Town screens can only be in 2D as 3D is utterly pointless, but for the maps it doesn't matter as both 2D and 3D are equally messed up and when it comes to finding ressources "A hen would not found her chicks back" !

HOMM6 was a bit step in the right way, just regretable all these new ideas were not for the best in the way they were worked...

H8 wouldn't be about making a sequel, simply because there is no established  foundation.

H8 would be about redefining the whole thing.

I don't think you'll have anyone disagreeing with you on that one, so you're preaching to the choir. But, fair enough, they have to make it appealing. Just how do they get there? That's the million dollars question. As far as I'm concerned, they have to take a big risk again and think outside the box of what's been done before. Something groundbreaking, new, reinventing the game even (where possible, while still feeling Heroes). Or bust. No time for being gun-shy and playing it safe.

That's what you get with a good-graphics-sell-the-game mentality..

On an unrelated note, I've grown to like units closer to class archetypes than units with a passive ability slapped on them. I mean OK shooters shoot and walkers move and hit stuff but I would prefer a team of 5 stacks with more diverse play and synergy over 7 stacks with H7 game play.. And increase gameplay variation by allowing 5/7 units to be built and recruited or allow an alternative unit per tier.

By class archetype I don't necessarily mean to take a swordsman and give him knight-like abilities or take an elf archer and give him ranger-like abilities. Rather, give each unit the tools to perform its role instead of keeping them one-dimensional. And then you could introduce additional statuses like beast, mounted, plant, lancer etc. Game mechanics have been evolving for a long time now.

That's exactly what DotA 2 Auto Chess is doing and why it's so massively popular right now. You have units with race (human, elf, goblin, etc.), class (warrior, mage, assassin, etc.) and their individual ability. When there's more units of the same race and class, they get synergy bonuses, unlocking passive skills. It's amazingly entertaining and makes strategizing team composition so satisfying. Heroes could benefit from that as well, there's a plethora of creatures that could fit categories, instead of just getting your 7 creatures and that's it. Just bland and boring, they should really read my guide and take notes, I've been covering this for years now.

Say what you want H5 townscreens contributed to this game's success. Just relaxing in front of gorgeous townscreen and listening to the music has always been part of the experience. You need both the solid gameplay and the looks, it's not one or the other.

As for making something 100% new... Guess I'll just stick with h3 using Bara's mod.

I actually wholeheartedly agree with you here, looks and atmosphere are definitely very important. But the 50% on graphics was with regards to Heroes 7 and how it still failed to look impressive despite that budget. It was a costly letdown. Townscreens were not up to par, UI was hideous, animations were underwhelming. You look at Heroes 5 and it did all of those better. I even liked the 3D townscreens and wouldn't mind seeing them back, provided they come with added functionality.

It shouldn't be one or the other ideally, but at the end of the day priorities matter. I'd rather have models with less than 30k polygons if it meant releasing the game with one faction more. Heroes is competing with its predecessors in terms of raw content, better graphics won't make up for that difference.
