I thought Death Note was already inferior? Or at least that's what Joonas said.
Took a small detour from my initial route and ended up watching Bokutachi no Remake. An interesting slice of life romance with the Re spin. It reminded me of Re:Life, though with milder drama and action more focused on team dynamics and social interactions surrounding work groups. Even though I considered it good for an 8/10, I can't shake the feeling that something was missing. Probably a lack of tension and mystery? Drama being too light? Curious to see how a second season would look.

There's something to be said about stupidity and that series.
Largely probably because the author didn't possess the time to actually think things through. Or he simply didn't care as he expected most of the readers to be either stupid or not care.

On Death Note... I once gave the anime a shot because the premise seemed interesting and it was rather highly rated. Unfortunately I gave up on the series entirely after watching 10 episodes.

Finally got to watch Odd Taxi after a brief period away from home. Solid mystery title that kept me engaged from start to finish. Had a unique style as well, haven't seen anything quite like it. It was enjoyable for the story and characters, without being heavy on details or trying to prove itself with some grand plotline. Yea, I've been missing that. A deserved 9/10 from me.
EDIT: Shaman King's latest story Osorezan Le Voile was seriously impressive to me. The whole mood shifted from the tournament arc. Matamune exposing his philosophy to Yoh was a memorable moment. His words resonated deeply with my own beliefs.
That whole scene was the highlight of the episode for me, probably the whole arc. They pulled something of such caliber in an otherwise very action-oriented shonen anime, really satisfying.

Yea, the Osorezan Revoir arc is certainly the best part of the new Shaman King anime so far for me. It was a great adaptation of the manga arc that for some reason didn't make it to the 2001 anime series.
Now I can say that the 2021 series is really worthwhile.

Thoughts about this series?
I personally loved the eerie, unsettling aesthetic of the show. The soundtrack is amazing and what is even more amazing is the sound direction. Together with the weird even for the 90's visuals it creates a truly unique, distorted word. Now as to the plot... there isn't much to speak of, it's more of a shell for some convoluted messages and rather abstract philosophical questions (and maybe some other stuff here and there). There are many ways to interpret what's happening, which can make it quite hard to follow or to come up with your own conclusion about the series' meaning. As is the norm with 'high brow' media and art, the beauty is entirely in the eye of the overanalysing beholder, since the creators themselves are unwilling to divulge what they had in mind when creating the anime, or (very likely) they themselves aren't totally clear about what their artistic vision was. That means, any interpretation of the events of Serial Experiments: Lain goes. Some obvious, and popular ones include:
*Sort of Spoilers for SE:L*
1. Lain is struggling from mental issues because of the toxic environment in which she grew up and which surrounds her and leads her to question her own existence.
1b. Lain is nuts, but also has a repressed lesbian sexuality. This view is shared by 5-10 r******d shippers online, who tend to project their own issues everywhere.
2. The plot is just a narrative tool which presents to us a whole bunch of interpretations about the issue of the Internet, the different Internet and RL personas people tend to have, how the Internet desensitizes people and so long and so forth. And also about how the Internet is or isn't different from reality, which ties in to
3. The plot is just a narrative tool to present to us a philosophical problem and the views of the anime's creators on said problem (probably the most accurate (IMO)and popular take). Cue reasonable and unreasonable opinions from aspiring online philosophers. They mostly have to do with transhumanism, existentialism and/or other fun and common cyberpunk themes.
4. The show was pretentious garbage, but I was tripping on acid and liked it a lot.
*End Sort of Spoilers*
Overall, you probably won't enjoy it if you aren't into overthinking things. Or dislike experimental direction, non-linear storytelling and confusing or contradictory scenes. Or dislike psychological horror. I am into that snow (well, admittedly not so much into horror), so I give it 7/10. Not more as I found the main message to be too vague for my liking and because I couldn't feel much of an emotional attachment with the characters due to how psychedelic everything and everyone was.

PS: Even if you give up on SE:L after watching the first few episodes, do listen to the OST. It's awesome.

Pretty sure I'm never going to watch it. I'm not the audience for that type of anime, for the reasons you pointed out at the end. I did have a "psychological" phase at some point, but it's not that strong anymore. And horror is a genre I simply dislike. I'm glad you posted about it though. A 7 means you enjoyed it.
Speaking of which, I was tempted to give that same rating to Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. But in the end I felt it would be a bit too harsh and went for an 8. How can I describe it... It was okay-ish and it had potential. First episodes were good and the style was great. But by the end of it, it felt cliche and uneventful. The same old school events, the swimsuits/pool episode (aka fanservice), the vacation, the festival. It was like watching the same anime I had already watched many times before. Even though the anime itself was good, it was pretty much the same repeating experience and it failed to impress me in any meaningful way. The comedy was average. Characters, well, the two main ones had something going for them but underplayed their roles. They had to be constantly surrounded by supports providing the circumstances (like Osana Najimi), otherwise there would be no action or situations. I'm not sure how they thought that would be compelling enough... Eh, it's a manga adaptation. And they're going with a second season, which I might watch. I'll leave it with this critique for now.
EDIT: I went on to read some other reviews on MAL after this, some of which were quite brutal. And I kinda have to hand it to them, the anime was just not that funny or engaging. But I did like the main characters and the style, so I'll leave my rating as it is. I did ask myself the question though - do I really want to watch another season of this?
EDIT: Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu 2nd Season, phenomenal series. I am impressed. The thing I'm conflicted about though? Well, I guess you already know that from my observations before. How can they be so unnecessarily lewd all the time? I really do not appreciate that angle of this story! But sure, I won't dwell on it. Because much of everything else hits just the spot. The pacing feels good, the interactions are great, the trio was amazing! Overall a worthy watch. This has to be my isekai second pick after Re:Zero. Hopefully it continues soon. 9/10
Also, yet again my decision to wait for the season to complete before watching it yields results. I couldn't have taken the wait every single week. Binging like this is added satisfaction and I'm afraid I can never go back. Well, maybe an exception once in a while.
EDIT: Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid was a mild disappointment. Nothing happens, that's it. The dull life of someone who wants to get rid of his only redeemable and badass trait in pursuit of achieving ultimate shonen protag status. All because he hit puberty and has the hots for a maid. Nothing you won't read from the synopsis, no need to actually watch the anime. 6/10.
EDIT: Alright, I finally got to watch Tensei snowara Slime Datta Ken 2nd Season, just the first part for now. I'm not sure how to feel about it. I do like some parts of it, the fights and character building mostly. But the part about forming a nation and community interaction is... Is making me ask the question - who cares? It's not entertaining, it's taking way too much screen time, it's such a convenient plot device as well and I'm afraid they'll just fall back to it many times more. Oh no, our country is in danger again, let's end the threat, and that's the season.
* Slime 2nd Season general spoilers *
Need to take this off my chest since it weighs heavier as I type. So basically this season was all about Rimuru becoming a demon lord and to that end they nonchalantly sacrificed a nation like it was an afterthought and also some otherworlders who were specifically constructed to be disliked. There was a cool fight at some point with that knight girl who had him cornered, probably the highlight of the season for me. And now Milim went berserk and some other demon lords are plotting something behind the scenes... I just get this feeling that something is missing to give everything substance. What's the end goal here? Now even the dragon is freed, one more off the checklist.
Also, I don't appreciate the "comedic" moments they decide to fill time with. Especially the antics of those two horned girls whom I actually don't care a bit about. So Rimuru and friends go to a brothel in the dwarven kingdom and of course when those two find out there's hell to pay. Really? Or one has really bad cooking skills and can't take the criticism. These skits feel decades old but somehow they're still around. Can someone clue them in as to how off-putting they are? Less beating it around the bush would be welcome. Serious tone Slime is so much better anyway.
* End Spoilers *
Overall a good watch and I gave the season an 8/10, but I feel something's just not clicking. I'm at least interested enough by the prospect of good fights and character development to try the second part as well. Plot-wise, it's not compelling.
EDIT: Part 2 of the second season now and sure enough:
I'm rolling my eyes.
Alright, watched it, and can now confidently say that I am done with this series. I have no hope or patience left in me for anything worthwhile to happen. They had 48 episodes to deliver something more than this. Consequence-free action. Utterly annoying characters that make repeated appearances just to fill time with their bull**** antics. Disappointing MC that just conveniently, repeatedly and with little to no effort powers-up to the delight of his retinue, but not to that of the viewer. Supreme leader adulation is not only the national sport in Tempest, it is the go-to competition taking place daily amongst all citizens. The sloppier and more public the ass-kissing reverence, the better. I am dissatisfied to the point I feel I'm putting up with a lot to find some enjoyment, but I've had enough. 7/10

excessive booba shots aside... the main story is ok for a full on ecchi series. Sub story with the bullied nerd is exactly what you'd expect from it.
Definitely the most imaginative ecchi harem I seen, just because most of the guys actually score before the final.
