i oppose whatever contradicts good sense. if a surgery leads to needless mutilation and disfigurement at the expense of the mentally ill, you better believe i oppose it. especially when the supposedly mentally sound encourage said surgery that tends to lead to suicide or a further degraded state of mind. just how did you consider that a decent counter argument???
as for elliot page, who knows. her reasoning could be any number of things. i'm not going to automatically assume she's mentally ill, because there's a lot of fragile egos in hollywood that can't handle not being relevant anymore. OR the amount of drugs they consume. comparing the legit mentally ill to that clustersnow of retardation that is hollywood and everything it entails, is just as faulty as your first point.

I have never encouraged surgery lol, pretty sure no one has. That is an intensely personal decision. How I feel is entirely inconsequential. I do support the individuals choice to make their own decision, they can do do what they want with their life - even if they end up regretting it.

You actually gave your reason as “having the stomach to see it” which can be applied to any surgery. So minion’s objection is only logical. There are videos of people, explaining how they dont regret anything after months from surgery and they dont look gross. Things would look gross if you focus on the surgery details though.
And it is not a mental illness. That had been explained, linked (direct psychiatry links), explained again, linked again… what could be called mentally unsound would be to insist on refusing biological facts based on something you call “your good sense.” From the way you argue about anything, we have enough to see it is not such “a good sense” to say the least.

your stance would be perfectly acceptable if it was just dumbasses getting tattoos. instead, because it's people getting body parts cut off and turned inside out, or getting a fake penis made out of their own flesh that looks nothing like a real one, due to a clinically recognized and treatable mental illness, and the fact you think the two are somehow comparable; your stance is NOT acceptable. feelings are not the equivalent to using your brain.
@ artu: "gender dysphoria is not a mental illness". i hope that's not what you mean, lol.

@ minion: so they're all now pushing that bs, huh? i can't say i'm surprised they changed gears; that "diversity hire" mandate is really coming back to bite society in the ass, isn't it?
sad to think, but elliot page is almost certainly on her way out. unless she has the fortitude of michael jackson, she won't last once this latest "bold move" on her part stops drawing attention. if you remember, she first came out as a lesbian when she was beginning to fade from the public eye(and in turn, lose her looks). sad, because she was a decent actress.

I dont have to mean anything, I previously linked the definition of gender dysphoria from two separate links, both credible scientific definitions prepared by experts in their field. It’s a form of distress, not a delusion. The biological setting is the very reason some people go through it despite not having a mental illness. And if you still keep denying that, despite all the evidence, you should not be throwing stones at other people’s mental stability.
Some people get tissue from their ass and put it in their face to look younger, a nose job would also look gross if you film the surgery… Some operation looking gross or the idea of the process making us uncomfortable doesnt mean much in terms of a clinical diagnosis.

100 people would be a small pool, I guess. It’s not that common after all. But once they come across it, they can and do detect genetic and hormonal anomalies. Then, there’s twin studies and so on.
Your question implies that it’s something as obvious and clear-cut as being a brunette. It’s not though. But since the people in question start to display signs in an early age, and then they do get checked out and there is a consistency detected in how their neorological wiring differs from the rest of us, it is observable data.
