Help! Where can I download/upload H4 maps?
I have blown 2 hours searching and still can't find a site that has H4 maps for downloading/uploading. Surely some people have made complete maps by now?
PLEASE, if you know somewhere, I'd really appreciate it. The maps that come with the game are exceptionally lame. 1 XL and only 3 Large!?! wtf is that?!?
I have a 2 level XL map nearly ready save crashes from my events. No scen-maker manual or guides that I can find to explain the rather chunky event dynamics. I wanna upload my cool maps as I make em to help save people from dying of boredom, but I wanna d/l some for myself NOW as well!
Argh, I feel like I bought a great game that unfortunately requires the user to finish making it themselves...

These guys are right. Although, I'm not sure exactly how many maps Celestial Heavens has...I think they only have Jonah Falcon's Allies map.
AU, about your map, how good is it exactly? Not to sound rude or anything, but I have downloaded lots of H4 maps that people have made, and for every good one, there's at least one bad one. Do you put a lot of terrain objects on your maps, so that they don't seem "barren"? What about storyline? Do you have a storyline? What about general terrain layout? Islands aren't squares, right? They look natural, and not fake and geometric?
Sorry, it's just that I've seen so many maps that are made without any regard to these crucial elements, and so I was just wondering...

Thanks a lot guys
Heroes.org did have the most. Unfortunately there's no rating on them and nothing to say whether they are pre-patch or post-patch (or does that even matter?). Still, a good start nonetheless and I downloaded 5 XL maps to keep me busy.
As for the question regarding my map I mentioned, I know what you mean about bad maps. I downloaded a couple hundred for HOMM3AB, and 95% of them were absolute garbage and no better than the lame one's that came with the game (frequently much worse). There were a couple great gems in amongst though I must say.
Anyway, I made about 300 maps for HOMM1, 150 for HOMM2, and about 20 for HOMM3. All my maps (for H4) will be XL, split level, 6 players, heavily detailed, and often the terrain is borrowed from fantasy maps from books or rpg's. I usually put about 80-150 hours into each one. I never got into the online thing before so I never submitted any maps, but I wouldn't submit anything that wasn't complete and thoroughly tested. Any maps by me will have an AU_ in front of them and will take a few days to play out.
The map I have nearly completed now is based on the Mystara world from D&D with quite a few liberties taken (lost my copy of the map so I hadda reconstruct it from years old memory). I have already spent a good 50 hours on it but the events have been savagely flawed due to much fumbling (I wish I knew about that tutorial site b4 I started). Stupid. Shoulda practiced on a small map first...

This sounds great...I'm gonna lap your maps up
Right now, I'm actually making a map of my own, modeled after D&D, but not any particular scenario--just the focus is completely on Heroes; they don't start with any creatures, and you can't build creature generators in any of the towns. Sometimes, however, you can free a Hero from the jail, who is customized to be one of the Characters from D&D 3rd Ed.(Mailee, Jozan, Hennett, etc.)
I hoped to finish it by yesterday, but things didn't go the way I had planned; my weekend was not as productive as I had hoped. I may finish yet, though, by this weekend.

Just had to share ....
The quality of the maps available on heroes4.org is ...variable ... to say the least. I just finished a map that had obviously not been playtested, with a couple of fascinating bugs.
Bug #1: The incredible eternal Pandora's Box. Gives out about 10,000 experience ...and doesn't disappear. In fact, multiple heroes could work it at the same time. I stopped clicking on it over and over when I got up to about 34th level. The weird thing was, I didn't get to choose any skills...it just randomly assigned them.
Bug #2: The Klepto Quest. The quest asks for a specific artifact, and promises a really nice one in exchange. However, when you bring it the artifact, said artifact disappears, and you're told you haven't found it. Sounds like either a scripting problem, or an incredibly twisted mind at work. Given the rest of the map, I'd bet on the former, though.
The moral of the story:
Fer Pete's Sake, have somebody playtest the dern thing!!!
On a happier note, I think the potential to produce some really outstanding maps for Heroes 4 is there, and I'm glad to see folks helping others learn the ins and outs of the H4 editor.

Heroes4.org is, though, where I downloaded the maps I was talking about. for every good on, there was a bad one(But, I did get about five really nice XL Maps, so I'm set for a while...)

Which XL ones were cool and which lame then?
Someone should start a Map rating thread here where we give the specs of the maps from heroes.org and rate them for everyone else. We'd all benefit.
I got 5 and the 'Dragons in the Middle' one that I'm playing at the moment is looking quite reasonable overall. You got 6 players (comp or human, no allies) spread around a heavily guarded (by dragons) central section. The only way to one another is via boats (which I havn't found yet) or the centre (which is too tough so far). Anyway, the map looks good and has no bugs (no events, story or other 'condiments' either). Worth playing anyway if you the liked Zanfa's Challenge map. Same kinda thing cept you gotta kill everyone to win (looooong game then...).

I expected some, if not most, of those maps to have problems since the site lets anyone upload and post their maps instantly. Sometimes I see several new maps a day.
Even the best of map makers would leave bugs in their maps, let alone the less experienced ones. And the much enhanced scripting system could only mean that we are likely to see more bugs than in the past. You can put scripts in a creature, a town, a structure that are scattered all over the map, so it is hard to even locate the scripts, let alone debugging them.

We'll always have the same amount of bad maps.
Dragons in the Middle is good. There are others, too, but right now I'm chatting with RMS via AIM, so it's taken me 15 min. to type just this.

FYI .... Maphaven has started accepting Heroes4 maps.
(free plug for Dragonsister LOL)
So far, no H4 maps in the database, but for those who have fond memories of the map selection at Astral Wizard, this would be the place to go.

It seems to me like the folks at Age of Heroes(www.heroesofmightandmagic.com) have given up on updating their site... i.e. the latest news on Heroes 4 says it will be released September 15th... so that hasnt been updated in who knows how long...

Why download maps so quickly when the game came with so many maps? Those maps may not have good stories but they are fun to play on nevertheless...
