Last 2 pages cleaned.

Now I would really appriciate it if we call that case (massive quoting) closed and go on.

If someone still needs a "guide" how to post, it is pretty easy:
Do NOT take every line of a poster and answer to it. Just pick out 1 or 2 main points and adress your reply towards them. This way, you will have 2 quotes at max in your reply.

Just for a start...

And to give veco credit here, he is very right. Don't use the feedback thread for spamming.

And one more hint for Elodin and JJ:

It is currently very hard to follow your both' conversations and to detect the core and the idea behind the "bashing".

But still, I would like to see if both of you respect the request of the other. If one says he wants you to take back or delete something you quoted wrong or false, then please do it. And even correct quoting can change a subject if taken out of context.

If one of you has the feeling, this has happened, please HCM me and I will take care. And if the other will refuse to change the post to which the complaint is adressed to (without any good reason), then I will penalize without any further warning. This post here is the warning already!

On the matter of OT:

In my humble opinion the OSM is for serious discussions. Rules are often nessecary for a serious discussion to keep being an actual discussion and not turn into either just random spam and/or simple bashing and flaming. Discussion require mutual respect and that you actually process replies. A good way to do this by reading posts several times, or just read it once, but not reply instantly. Any way, that is not the matter at hand. As I said, the main purpose of the OSM is serious discussions, this require rules. Not the other way around. When the rules gets in the way it is apparent that the rules are bad, since they are ment to be positive for the discussion! We can agree on that, can we? That when a rule gets in the way more than it helps the discussion, it's a bad rule?

My point is that often the OT discussions are still serious discussions and are often not really in the way. I personally see more value in keeping those posts, and thus the discussion than deleting them, and most likely kill both the discussion at hand, and the original topic. As seen in the religion thread, it went OT more than on topic, still, a lot of the discussions were serious discussions, and the thread often came back to religion.
I see nothing wrong with an off topic discussion as long as it is serious. Most of the time it is not in the way of the original discussion, or is nessecary for it to go on or it has arisen due to the fact that there's little or nothing to add to rhe original topic.

I have to apologize because it seems it was mainly me who brought this thread into a wrong direction.

I believe a lot of people are acting childish..but that is no surprise. Sometimes I feel like we are watching over a kindergarten rather then a forum.  "Bobby, stop pulling Jessica's hair!".

If you can't talk to somebody without an insult, don't.
If you can't take somebody disagreeing with you, it's time to leave the forum.
Disagreement is NOT an insult.
You are not always right, get over yourself.
Calling people liars is just as bad an insult as whatever you might perceive as an insult.
Nobody is blameless, but instead of blaming each other, we can always improve ourselves.
Or is that to hard for little johnny?  Huh..is it?  Is it to hard for cute little Johnny?

As an observer who posts in the OSM maybe once a month if I get the chance, even I'm getting pretty sick of hearing about Elodin and his foibles every time I browse the place. For a while it was an interesting novelty but after the past ten months or more of prior experience, I thought everyone here would've absorbed the idea that no amount of criticism, valid or otherwise, is likely to affect his viewpoint or posting style.

I propose someone digs up Baklava's old idea, falsely agreeing with everything the guy says on a constant basis and praising his every word until he has little to argue about and his defensive, hypersensitive manner changes. I can't actually remember who we did it to the first time, which is surely a sign of its effectiveness.

@Elodin & Co.: Ok guys, I'll like to warn you a little, I see you have fun with the discussion, but this is an off topic. Pleace keep the discussion about this subject in it's thread and do not spread it all around the forum(s). Also, please, keep the good tone. I may not be an OStM mod but I can penalize and silance everywhere. And off topics are CoC braking:

Quote:
4) NO spam, junk posts, thread killing, flooding or flaming.
Junk post is a post that fails to address the topic of discussion and fails to provide intellectual or humorous stimulation, or put simply: off topic, not interesting, not funny. (...)

I'll be nice and keep it as warning to Elodin and, the others, just do not feed the off topic too, it counts for you too.

So keep it at least in it's topic. One more thing - do not complain for this post, I'll not even read them.

I think, your immediate comments to the Obama thread are quite correct, but as I seem to remember, your example, claiming Elodin being a mole dedicated to destroy the religious grouping he's a member of, wasn't well-received, although it was essentially the same thing Elodin is doing.

He's preferring to generally offend whole groups: atheists, muslims, pro-choicers, you name it.

If you see a person who weighs 300 pounds, you can of course callthat person "not exactly lean". I would call them fat, though. It's correct. How fat must a person be, so you can call them fat, without offendng them?

And how moronic has a notion to be before you can call it moronic?

Calling the current president of the US a Marxist and a big part of his administration Commies is as moronic as it gets. Everyone saying that, has lost quite a few marbles - you could just as well say that the current government of Israel is pro-Hamas.

A website portraying this notion would be the laugh of the month, another loony conspiracy theory on first look, on second probably more an intellectual misconception, probably based on the understanding that "Marxist" is everything not strictly liberal, as in "dead" is evrything, that isn't strictly healthy.

Now, everyone has a right on their opinion, but if you make a fool of yourself with your opinion, don't complain when people laugh at you.
