if ghost dragons aging worked as often as dread knight's double damage, they would be so much better.
i think it would be interesting to do a test to see how often aging actually occurs, b/c it seems like it never happens.. 10% if that.

I love Archangel's resurrection ability, saved my arse numerous times. For some reason Black Dragon has never done it for me, I seem to absolutely hate the Dungeon fort. I usually play Tower or Rampart, which means that I usually have either Titans () or Gold Dragons (meh). Ghost Dragons have nearly always sucked balls for me. Hydra's are meh, I almost never play Stronghold and Devils... are okay I guess. Phoenix are decent too.

Ghost Dragons speciality age has 20% chance to work. And Dread Knight has 20% change to do double damage and 20% change to curse enemy. 1/5 of Ghost Dragons attacks should age enemy but when you really need to age hard enemies it never works!

Notice tho, that even tho Dragons have been in heroes since first game, there were no specific BLACK dragons in...
H1 had Pink Dragons, which are as close to Gold Dragon as they are to Black
KB had Green Dragons only if memory serves, and no titans, just giants.

Archangels. If you have them, chances are you have either an upgraded Portal of Glory, or access to a Hill Fort. Either way, you can use Griffin Conservatories to expound your collection and develop a small fleet in a week's time. Split them into two stacks and they can resurrect each other, giving the hero freedom to move at max speed with just them, while still inflicting monstrous damage.

In a 1 on 1 battle, I agree, archangels win. Though blacks can't be slowed, or cursed, or w/e, they can't be hasted, can't be prayered. Shield, Stone Skin, Bloodlust, Frenzy(mmm)etc are all spells that can make an angel much more uber than a black. And yeah, Expert Resurrection kicks ass...
But in a real battle, there aren't just 1 on 1 battles. In a strategic battle, coupled with tactics probably, titans are the best there is. Ranged, damn powerful, and with mind immunity that gets forgetfulness and blind out of the picture, they can lay waste to the entire battlefield, before the black dragons and the archangels can hit them.
My two cents.

In my view, behemoths are the creature to go. Available way before any other level 7, in the upper half of lvl7 1v1 wise, and still the cheapest one. Great combo of features, imho.

In HoMM 2, Black Dragons were as gods. In HoMM 3, the Titan and Archangel are capable of beating it. Also, as someone pointed out, you can cast beneficial spells(such as Dragon Slayer) on Archangels.

I think that Archangels are the best creature in the game, but aren`t they bit overpowered? I had 2 archangels and few other troops(Halberdiers, Marksmen, Zealots) against 5 groups of 2 red dragons, and i won! When you think about what a great creature Archangel is, it almost seems pretty cheap.
My personal favourite creature is Ancient Behemot because it just feels great to have them in your army

It surely is one of the best but i dont think its overpowered considering its cost (highest of all lv7)
And defeating multiple stacks of neutral creatures shouldnt be a benchmark.
I remember in Dragon slayer campaign, with like 50 titans you slaughtered like 300-400 Black Dragons per battle, without using spells
Hero stats and abilities make wonders
If behemoth manages to strike first, all other lv7 are dead meat vs it It does like 100 damage per creature. Tricky part is getting it to strike first

archangels have 250 HP compared to BD's 300, but they have a 50 damage instead of 40-60, and higher attack and defense. I did some calculations, and AA will ususally come out on top. However, spell vulnerability is annoying. It can be hasted, true, but it can also be implosioned.

It can be Implosioned, but it can also be ressurected. And blessed, and prayered, and if spells really piss you off, there's always anti magic.
The stuff dragons are made of . Get it now, from a store near you!!!
And late in the game, only a spellpower over 30 can do some serious damage. And even then, Let's say it kills about 30 AA from a stack of 300 AA. And with prayer on them, they can kill over 100 BD. Or slayer. Or whatever spell.

Exactly. There's ups and downs to both. Personally, as a Fortress enthusiast, I can't imagine what life would be like with spell-resistant Hydras. *shudders at having hydras walkat normal speed into combat.*

I also try to imagine a fight between a Walker Hydra and some texas rangers..
BTW, what about a fight between 20 phoenixes and 10 AA? (don't forget weekly growth)

AA. They kill phoenix in about 4 hits, and takes phoenix at least 8 to kill one archangel.
