Hmm. I'd put them in this order:
1. Archangel
2. Titans
3. Black Dragon
4. Ancient Behemoth
5. Arch Devil
6. Gold Dragon
7. Chaos Hydra
8. Phoenix
9. Ghost Dragon
AA's are just lethal. Not only is the attack so high, it's constant. Add to that the ress ability and it's far ahead of anything.
Titans are not really close to AA's but except their speed titans do serious damage both from a safe distance and in melee. can't be blinded but can be ressurected.
Black Dragons has very nice speed and strenght and imune to spells.
Only bad thing is that it works both ways. U can't haste, ressurrect, bless, shield etc your poor dragons.
Ancient Behemoths are plain badass. Just don't let anything come in it's way. 300 hp and really tough to stand up against. Problems occur when u need speed and when obstacles on the battle field are in your way. Sometimes u can't get to where u want. Not the best creature defensivly either.
Arch devils have a nice ability and good speed but vs AA's these guys are dead before they hit the ground. And they can't even ressurect.
200 hp makes it even worse.Still if u can keep your opponent at bay you could win without taking a single blow vs weaker creatures.
Gold Dragon are faster and have a fraction better stats than black dragons. But 50 less hp combined with the ability to implode these guys is just not good. And did I forget to mention you can't even ress them afterwards...
Hydras are really nice strong creatures, but 7 in speed is really tough. Could serve a better purpose in battle than let's say behemoths, but 50 less hp and 2 less in speed makes them even harder to get involved in battle.
Phoenix is all abut speed. Low hp and not very good stats alltogether.
But u always start the battle with these guys on your side and as we all know it's about the growth.
Ghost dragons hardly feel like lvl 7 creatures. Has a nice spec but it happens to seldom. Let's just say necropolis is not about your lvl 7 critters
Then if rules changes like for example "no implosion" comes into play, then Gold dragons would jump up a few places, but that's another story.

All the way with what Pengu said. AA are obviously the best, and Titans can deal too much damage whe blessed... And Bone/Ghost Dragons are sad. Dread knights are probably better than Bone Dragons, with lower cost, higher growth, and almost same stats. I wouldn't call them 7th level...

For me
1. Archangel : Highest Attack and Def, Fastest, Rescurrection
2. Titan : The Only Shooter, Highest Maximum Damage, Mind Spell Immunity
3. Black Dragon : 100% Anti magic, Breath Attack
4. Gold Dragon : Immune to Lv 5 Spell, Breath Attack
5. Arch Devil : Unretaliated
6. Phoenix : Rebirth, Fastest
7. Ancient Behemoth : Reducing Def
8. Chaos Hydra : Multi Head unretaliated
9. Ghost Dragon : Aging

Bone Dragons are still significantly better than Dread Knights and they are less expensive (for their power), also slightly better than Behemots (unupgraded), IMHO. Ghost dragons are probably worst upgraded 7lev creature but due to their speed and aging effect, they are still useful tactical unit.

I have to disagree because bone and ghost drags lose to dread knights when there are for example 200dk vs. 100gd(two times more knights since their growth is double)
Bad level 7 isn't really a problem since you got skellies

Please ignore my previous reply...
Of course, 'weekly' stack of Dread knights is stronger (but also 2 Nagas are better than 1 Giant, for example )
All I want to say is just that it's better to have Bone dragons than the same amount of Dread Knights in army

The difference between bone drags and dread knights isn't the hugest one
Dread knights
A18 D18 H120 D15-30(30-60) S9 curse and double damage
Bone drag
A17 D15 H150 D25-50 S9 -1 morale and flyes
Usually bone drags win but sometimes dreads can be better
but who cares skellies rule anyways
Yeah but giants are just unnecessary to get titans
drags just suck all the time

You guys can analyze all you want and put your picks in most popular order but I'm going with my very good buds the Mighty Gargantuan!
With two area shots they are tops. And besides, they make the most adorable ROAR when they take a hit. Just look at that face
who could resist? They're so ugly, they're cute.

Phoenix only 9th? Remeber, phoenixes have double growth. All other lvl7 have 2(3)units/week, phoenixes have 4(6)units/week. Breath attack, greatest speed, great special. You underrated them.
My favorite lvl7.
right! phoenix's stats don't so different than ghost dragon's. but the speed and reborn ability makes it much more better.
and also much more expensive.
You cannot afford to hire all those 4 units or 6 units per week..if u do..then you wont have resources to hire the other useful creatures.

Lv7 creatures powers
1) Archangel - Winner here whit outstanding statics and special
2) Black Dragon - 2-hex attack, magic immunity and good statics
3) Titan - Range creature, high maximum damage, mind immunity
4) Ancient Behemoth - 1 vs 1 killers!
5) Gold Dragon - Good until hero whit Implosion suprises you.
6) Arch Devil - No enemy retalation! Too bad stats are so low.
7) Phoenix - 2-hex attack, speed, resurrection and if population can take in account they are the strongest lv7 creatures.
8) Chaos Hydra - Defense and Health should be higher when speed is this slow.
9) Ghost Dragon - Oh yeah next to useless.

Right! Also, another strategy, who needs to hire All phoenixes available? Just recruit 3 phoenixes each week (only 6000 gold + 3 mercury. that is same price with 2 Ghost Dragons. Expensive?? Surely NOT) is enough. 1 phoenixes for some unplanned situation.

Quote: ...The guy asked what was the best unit, NOT what 7th level creature you can get fastest, or which building was cheapest. I answered the question correctly, you guys are just looking for people to knitpick at.
A very good point indeed!
We must be clear on whether we're talking about the best creature in absolute terms or in relative terms. Otherwise, disagreements and sour messages to one and another might appear.
The best creature - absolute terms:
Cost, numbers or availability doesn't matter. The unit has already been aquired. Comparing units' strengths and weaknesses is given that the unit is present on the battlefield in equal numbers and with similar heroes with similar spells (probably should all spells up to level 3 be taken for granted). This approach is the most theoretical and statistical of the two.
The best creature - relative terms:
In relative comparison, one must take in to concideration the costs of both recruiting units and the cost of building the dwelling. As we've seen above, a common argument for the Behemoth. How many creatures that will be available per week is also an important factor (see arguments for the Phoenix). But probably the most important factor is the strategical and tactical aspect. Every player has his/her own favourite way of playing, and this involves different use of spells and creature-teams both on and outside the battlefield. These things makes for almost endless combinations of uses of a level 7 unit, and makes it virtually impossible to decide which is the better or worse of the top-end creatures.
My personal opinion is that the first is a more useful approach if one is supposed to make an isolated comparison of all the level 7 units. The latter is more relevant when measuring the relative strength between players. I'm pretty sure every single one of the level 7 units can be considered the best in certain strategical/tactical setups - none is "useless". But I think such discussions belongs more in a strategy-thread. If we're to decide what creature is the best, I think we must eliminate the factors of cost, availability and strategy from the picture here.
These humble opinions, signed:

Phoenixes have doubled growth rate, so I compaire 2 phoenixes against 1 another lvl7..
Two Ph. have 400 HP, but low A/D. I think they are at least around 5th place..
They are my favourite lvl7 units. I also like Titans with mass slow.
Black Dragons are not so cool, 'cause I can't cast resurrection.
Chaos Hydra is a bit weak(HP), even with teleport+mirth.
(BTW, best lvl8 is maybe Ghost Behemot.)

TiTaN
Titan is my favorite.Well titan isn't the best 7th level creature but that's not the point. The point is that is the most styling creature in the game with a long history counted from homm2(well many of u may say black dragon has greater history but i tell u that black dragon is nothin more than an animal ).Also i can't remember any archangel so old.
well to sum up:TiTaN=Very strong creature with style and history
Black Dragon=Stronger than titan with greater history but no style
Archangel=Maybe the strongest with a very good style but with no history
