Having any hero without Sorcery is a bad idea.If the opponent uses mass light, mass dark magic spells, cleansing, phantom forces or puppet master your on a serious disadvantage.
And Summoning Magic is way better then Destructive,as phantom forces, raise dead, earthquake, firewall and it's level 5 spells offer superior tactics.

If you are referring to inferno as the thread suggests, that's not really true.

IMO summoning and destrictive magic schools are both not worth picking as a Demon Lord. Due to his low spell power you won't be able to use damaging and summoning spells efficiently. It's way better to go for dark or even light magic (it's only 2% to get during lvl up, and you won't have much light spells in town, but if you find Tome of Light Magic, or Arcane Libary then you're good to go). Also with mass spells sorcery is not mandatory, so you can develop skills like attack, logistics etc.

Nope, light and dark are where it's at It is kinda ironic how well light complements them but in the end they are a might faction with low sp. Summoning is only worth it for arcane armour and maybe phantom forces.

When your on a town siege, summoning is very helpful.First you destroy the towers with one of two casts of earthquake (with Deleb you finish them faster with double catapult hits // dark magic can give you mass confusion),then you can focus on phantom forces.Succubus is a level 4 creature, but it's pretty good for it's low rank. And notice when you use that spell, the enemy forgets about other targets and focuses on your phantom,so it's buying time and protection for your units to attack. Not to mention using it on pit lords and arch devils is pretty usefull.
With raise dead you can use it on hellhounds if they are destroyed next to enemy archers, blocking their ranged attacks...or to block enemy units for coming close to your succubus.
Firewall is good putting it on enemy ranged units (they will have to move away and loose a turn,or stay and receive damage),casting it near your ranged units (to discourage attacks) and when defending on a siege you can cast it on the sideway entrance and put a large unit right next to it,so the enemy is blocked from entering and receives double damage. And with Phoenix, you can destroy any enemy phantom force if they attack it,as it has fire shield...and a few other things.
As for low speellpower, that can be solved by conquering a Dungeon or Academy town, reaching a shopping artifect cart on the map and a few other methods.

By the way, i'm going to play a 3v3 with friends and i think i'm gonna go with Inferno. Tell me if my plan is good - start with Deleb, picking up logistics and attack to creep everything around me, then at about lvl 25 visit memory mentor and forget war machines and take dark magic. Then i will simply take ultimate skin and destroy enemy ranks with istant gating and powerful dark spells.
PS: At this map it's impossible to rush, fights are possible only during late game.

Your plan is bad. Here is a good plan:
1. Start with Deleb.
2. Dont pick new skills untill you get tent + balista.
3. Once you have tent + balista pick Logistics. You can either go for swift mind or warpath.
4. While waiting for swift mind/warpath perks to show start looking for dark magic.
5. From dark magic you want master of mind/master of curses. Pick them on sight.
6. Once you have master of mind/curses start looking for Defense.
7. From defense you can go for last stand/power of endurance if the game goes long enough.
8. Pick enlightenment or luck in the last skill slot.
Dont bother going for ultimate. Its 1 great perk that comes at the cost of many crappy skills/perks.
Deleb build before mentor should look like this:
1. Exp gating - Hellfire.
2. Exp WarM - 3x balista + tent.
3. Exp Logistics + warpath/swift mind.
4. Exp Dark + master of mind/curses.
5. Exp Defense
6. Exp Enlightenment or Exp luck.
Warmachines + logistics ASAP, then dark + mass spells ( you want to make sure u have mass spells in the final fight, thats why u take spell school right after WM + logs combo).
After mentor it should look like this:
1. Expert gating + hellfire
2. Expert attack + tactics + power of speed
3. Expert dark + master of mind/curses
4. Expert defense + power of endurance/last stand
5. Expert luck + swarming gate + resistance/dead mans curse
6. Expert enlightenment + mentoring
Note that on epic maps the Mentoring perk is the Ultimate perk ( strongest perk) for all factions.
Ofc you can change Dark magic for light magic, just make sure to not have both. Dont bother with summoning/destro magic, pick Warmachines instead.

How to start with town Inferno?
The other is easy to start, hitting not unbalanced, this individual I find it difficult to not find the optimal way to fight.
This town haven't a strong archer like Haven, Sylvan---> very difficult in the first days

I have played today with my friend, the game on Heroes ToTE 3,1. The map with islands (default ubisoft map), 2x2, humans vs pc players (Heroic).
I was Inferno (as usually), and my friend was Necropolis (I have asked him to not play for a cheater factions, such as fortress or haven.).
And the first time my kingdom looks better than my friend, especially - the army. Whahha, unbelievable, because my friend is always wins against me. .
My hero in this case, was Nymus, the image of which is looks not very ... good and kindness, perhaps it is a hair.. but in this game, this hero was a protector of justice and innocent peoples, this is because I believe that your choice made you, but not place where you born or your ancestors .
The skill and some crucial abilities that I have choose.
, - mega amazing skills for a Demon Lord fighter. Saved my Nymus a few times in the hard battles.
, - A very useful, especially if you do not want to lose a many demons...
, - Must have if you want to save your troops, incredibly useful with Gating.
, - Mega-super strike, this is only one skill that your hero can successfully use, because of the zero effectiveness of his attack magic.
, , , - Then you need a skill that gives to you mass-stoneskin, Gating --> Mass-Stoneskin, Rock'N'Roll!
, - I have a hell no idea how to play with Nymus, without this skill, incredibly useful through all game, and in the all kind of battles.
I, and my friend played against Academy and Dungeon. The AI-guys attacked first time (after a game-month, approximately), and we are survived, I was target for a Dungeon, my friend for the Academy.
Second time I was target for the Academy, and my friend for a Dungeon, I have successfully defend myself (well.. I have lost the almost all troops, but the Academy have the same loses), but unfortuanetely my friend, that playing better than me, that hold a much more larger army, more level experienced hero - Deidre
,
Has been totally annihilated by Dungeon, which was totally unexpected . I do not know, perhaps Inferno is not a weakest faction in the game, perhaps Necropolis against Dungeon is much more weak than Inferno , but just a few Black Dragons with a single blow evaporated almost 4 hundreds of Skeleton Warriors - incredible.
Nymus' special ability - Gate Keeper, is a very useful, because even just the ONE trooper have a good chances to successfully call the reinforcements! This is usually can lead to a victory in the many battles against monsters.
When my friend and me, will meet again, I think we will try to finish that game, is there any good advice how to play with such Nymus build against Academy and Dungeon?

@frostysh
Nice build, however, there is still some room for improvement .
On ubi maps+heroic difficulty the demon lords have a hard time during the 1st 2-3 weeks. Thats mainly due to the fact that they dont have a low lvl shooting unit ( lvl 1-3) like Academy(lvl 1 gremlins), Orcs ( lvl 2 centaurs), Haven ( lvl 2 shooters), Sylvan(lvl 3 shooters), Necro (lvl 1 shooters), Dwarves ( lvl 2 shooters) etc. Also Inferno doesnt have a hero that starts with 3 shooter stacks - like Dougal, Havez, Ossir, Haggash, Karly etc. Basically the best early game start comes either with war machines or with a hero that starts with 3 stacks of shooters. There are some exceptions like Jhora and Nur, they start with a very nice early game spell and a lot of mana points. Demon lords happen to have only 1 great early game hero - Deleb.
Normally multiplayer games are played on Hard diff, because its more balanced. On heroic most heroes are not good enough and ppl always play 1-2 heroes per faction.
Nymus is not a great hero for ubi maps/heroic diff. His start is too slow. He starts with luck which provides unreliable dmg and doesnt help too much infernos melee attacking forces during the early game. Luck is a great skill, but its better picked later in the game. Its also a very common skill for the demon lords, so starting with luck is really nothing special. Nymus has a great specialty for the lategame tho, but its not enough to compensate for his early game troubles. Also Nymus may have to delay or even ignore logistics.
A good Nymus build up should look like this:
1. Lvl up luck and gating skills until you get offered war machines. They are a common skill for a demon lord - 10%, so you should get them offered during the 1st 7-8 lvl ups. In order to increase the chance prioritize upgrading the starting skills - luck and gating - over picking perks from them.
2. Pick war machine skill and try to get 1st aid tend and 3x balista as fast as possible. Demon lords have only 2 ways of ressurecting - either with 1st aid tent, or with vampirism. Vampirism is a lvl 5 spell that is not easy to get early in the game. So your only reliable source of ressurecting lost troops early in the game is the 1st aid tent perk from war machines. Regeneration spell would help, but it shows too rarely in the demon lords mage guild. The balista provides you army with a strong ranged attacker, something that you really need. War machines provide an insane boost to your creeping power at the cost of only 1 skill slot. They allow you to loot crypts, elemental stockpiles, treant thickets, gargoyle stonevaults and other creature banks a lot faster and without loses.
3. Once you have Expert war machines + tent and at least balista pick Dark or Light magic. Both are good but Dark is way more reliable due to your mage guild. Its important to pick a spell school as 3rd skill because if you delay it more you may not manage to get the perks you want from it (for mass spells). So far no logistics picked - a consequence of having luck as starting skill.
4. Logistics or defese, depends on the map. Picking up logistics as 4th skill is not that great, but if the map is large enough it may be worth it. Since its picked as 4th skill you may have trouble getting swift mind or warpath. And it will probably be late for warpath anyways.
5. If u have picked logs as 4th skill go for defense, else try to get enlightenment or leadership. Picking attack as 5th skill is normally a bad idea, because the power of the attack skill lies in its perks - tactics, power of speed, retribution, flaming arrows, battle frenzy ( if the map has multiple low lvl dwellings). Expert attack is weak, it gives + 15% melee dmg at the cost of 3 skill points.
On the other hand we have Deleb:
1. War machines, best creeping possible for inferno.
2. Logistics - creeping issues are handled, so we can safely pick logs. When picked so early its easy to get war path/ swift mind.
3. Dark/light - picking magic school right after we have good creeping and good movement, we will be able to get some good perks from it too, because we have filled our war machines and logistics skills with perks and we havent picked other skill to flood our lvl ups with crappy perks.
4-5. Defense/Luck/Enlightenment/Leadership - all are good. Attack might be a good pick as 4th skill on maps that allow getting higher hero lvl.
As you can see, the staring skill matters for the whole development of the hero .

Hello guys, here's also my suggestion of playing race: Inferno vs Hard / Heavy AI or human,On both types of maps: random, as well as those entered in the game. Required Level 15-22 Starting hero Alastor
Very effective against races such as the : Academy, Haven, Sylvan, Fortress
Less effective against: Strronghold, Dungeon, Inferno
Never try to adoption of the strategy against the Necropolis ! ^^
I am starting only branch of horned demons, imps never participate in combat versus neutral troops, like mines, stones of knowledge, chapels or habitat 1-3 level creatures defenders etc.
Try to build a mage's guild + demon tower recruiting them allowing you to start with around 30 in the first week if you lease the additional hero. I believe that demons for such a low price(40-60) of gold and that a big increase are able to provide the backbone for our army + Gating.
(replay from the battle in the link below to prove their strength). Personally, I choose to upgrade Horned Overseers, but it depends on your playing style. If you like to jump with Horned Grunts on neutrals its ok too. Take what appeals to you more. +2 more defence points on Overseers in the castle of demons is something of value and gives the ability to maintain the battle for a long time, especially since later we have suiciders, such as unreasonable Cerberi or Hell Chargers.
Save Imps for a meeting with the opposite character to have used mana stealer from hero (which is 0.25 mana points per creature in the stack) most effectively. When you can choose dark magic (max it at every opportunity) than pick a Master of Mind + Shrug Darkness = protection against a slow spell for most numerous evacution what are the horned demons.
Then it is good to have the Advanced Logistics ---> Scouting (handy on XL maps) ---> Swift mind - that gives us an advantage over every branch of ranged units/mages to cast Confusion spell before they even consider what to do about it. This combination allows us to use the abilities of racial gating without being buried by spells or shoot-execute. Confusion curse also blocks the ability to counterattack on Expert, *hanker the good old devils from Homm III *.
During the week 2-3 of game is also welcome to upg. Succubus Seducer - unless you do not need anyone to explain why. I never leave such buildings as the citadel not constructed in the 2nd week - because it provides a more Horned Overseers and the walls with the tower, behind which you can easily control the support of Gating while deffending your position from fast invaders.
In this case they leave us with two free talents which can be: Luck / Defense / War machine.
Good Luck.

zaio-baio -
Thanx for the hints, I will use that. Too bad, that I cannot play with my friend too often times. Well, I agreed that Nymus totally sux on Heroic, default ubi maps. It is hard to find such week hero, perhaps Grok. I just wonder, what is the weakest hero in the game with such options (obviously, this is will be Inferno)? .
Without Scouting it is very hard too play by Inferno, because if you will attack too powerful monsters - game over.
Succubi recruit center is a very hard to build, and their number per week sux. So yeah, War Machines is the only possible solution that I know (Demon Lord attacking magic is pathetic ). Too bad - I have only once got a Warmachines Skill when I have played against my friend - and I have loose anyway .
If I will get Nymus next time, I will try to ignore Logistic, but without Scouting, I do not know. . .
anti-victor -
Imps not participating in the battles, and it is for sure, and it is Heroic? And what is your tactics against monster, 6 stacks of 1 demon, and 7th with 30 demons? This is sounds weird for me..
Monster Archers - always make their move BEFORE your hero in the early on the game, Heroic. If you will bring your main stuck of demon on the battlefield - they will fall... And usually, in such cases means that game over came.
Demons is almost useless against high initiative monsters, usually it is Sylvan and Dungeon. My demons, sometimes falls even before they can do a single move. So it is a bad idea to think that they are "backbone" of your army when you are playing against such factions.
Only the one good ability of demons - they can jump, sometimes this was helpful for me, to charge the opponent or to run away.
Imps - about the imps, I agreed, depends on my experience. If you will have not enough of imps to suck the energy, against something that have a magic - game over. But the problem is that Academy, for an example, have lot of units that can cast spells . Their heavy monsters, under blessing of that blue guys with a scimitar - the end of story .
Succubi Seducer - I have almost never tried them, perhaps they are effective, I do not know. But heir alternative is very good in destroying of ammo rack, sometimes it is a very useful.
Inferno is effective against Sylvan, Haven, Academy Fortress - Whahahhaaaaaaaaa. No frigging way! . The all of the above mentioned factions, is the imbalanced as hell faction, that has been made by developers. I see no way how you can win against such factions, perhaps with this Demon Lord that start with ballista, even in that case this is will be hard.
As for myself, I have played against Human player, my friend that choose Sylvan, Haven, Fortress - I have loose every time with the Inferno. His victories was absolute.
Well perhaps we are talking about a different difficulties - I am playing against my friend, only on Heroic (the maximum difficulty in the game).

What a better initial position in battle Inferno vs Inferno, where I need to place ma' hero' Succubi-s? Near a big 4xField monster, or to cover them by a Demons (I am recruiting not jumpers but fire ones). In addition PC-player, recapture my mines with a hero that have a dragons already - this hero:
I can defeat him, but I don't want to lose much ma' soldiers, I want to save them for a battle against human-player. I have defeat this Vishan once, but he come again, with greater army...

Is it possible? I dont belive what i am seeing
Frostysh, you have picked warmachines as 6th skill!
And you have picked enlightenment as 3rd only to lvl it up to advanced?
Dark as 4th with 1 mass perk, but its still at basic lvl?
Logs picked as 5th skill
Try to pick and lvl up warmachines asap, dont pick other skills before you have tent + balista.
Then, if you are playing with this crappy hero you have to go for dark magic and pick 1-2 mass perks. Preferably not master of pain.
Afterwards it depends. If its a large map and there is still a lot to explore - go for logs + warpath/swift mind.
Defence/Luck/Enlightenment are also great options. Leadership is also good. Attack may be fine too, if you manage to pick the right perks from it. I would avoid picking the attack skill unless im certain that i can pick some good perks from it.
Use the jumping demons, the others are useless. After you cast mass confusion you can leap without suffering retaliation.

For now the situation is next:
The Army: the army is fully upgraded, Arch Demons (black ones) ~ x9, Pit Guys (fighters not magi) ~ x10 (perhaps will be more), Horses (flaming ones) ~ x35, Succubi guys (black-smoke ones not flaming) ~ x65, Hounds (dark ones, not Cerberus) ~ x70, Horned Guys (Flaming not jumpers) ~ x230, and Purple Imps ~ x300.
The General: Djezebeth - 21 lvl.
I didn't want to choose "Logistic" but son of the preacher man map is like a swamp! Without logistic you cannot make even a screen-size move per turn .
The situation on the map "Avarice" is next: I and my general have successfully hold my city under attacks and sieges, then I have recapture ma' mines, and then I have defeat one of the PC-opponents, Capture three towns, two fully upgraded. My general have obtain a lot of spell, this is including: "Blindness", "Vampire", "Confusion", etc..
The opponent human player hero is Marbass. So the battle player vs player will be soon. Any good advises how I need to place ma' soldiers before the battle?
Also I am curios, I want to try to attack "Mages Treasure" but ma' friend attacked it few game-weeks ago, and said that there was a Phoenix and crazy magicians that have killed many of his army, so I am curios, which soldier is better to bring against those crazy guys in that tomb? .
Thanx.
P.S. This is not a cr*py hero, this is ma' general, that will lead ma' soldier to victory, or to defeat . But not a "cr*py hero"
