Quote: Well , here is my list of each tier strenghs , not suprising for all , most of our creatures are the best on their level .
Lvl 1 - Assasins. True , they have a much lesser growth , but they have more then twice HP advatage to all other 1st tiers , the poison ability also is great help , their range penalty isn't a big broblem - I often use my assasins as melee unit cause they do full damage .
Lvl 2 - Blood Furies are uncompairable ! Just can to say that with only 20 of Furies I crashed without any lose hordes of swordsmen and golems ! With tactics ability they would also easily defeat low level shooters .
Lvl 3 - Minotaur Guards are ok , high HP and double attack ... but initiative is only 8 , since they can't act as often as I wish . Since my vote is for Master Hunters - their huge damage is awesome .
Lvl 4 - Grim Raiders have very high HP for their tier + magnificent abilities . If compair them to H3 , I could say that they're Ogres with Behemoth ability and Champion speed - what a powerful combination !
Lvl 5 - Deep Hydras haven't a big offensive potential cause they're slow and their damage is below average , but their defensive strengh is great . In hot multiplayer battles hydras very often are mine last stack on battlefield . Their tougness gives my hero a criticaly needed time to cast our mortal emproved spells . For me , only one 5 tier unit is compairable with Deep Hydras , this's the Inquisitor since he's 1*1 no melee penalty shooter and caster with valid 80 HP .
Lvl 6 - In high numbers Paladins are definitely the best 6 tier creatures , with 80% charging bonus Paladins are probably the most damagedealing stack on battlefield . In low numbers , less than 10 the spliting of Shadow Matriarchs could give a huge bonus - 3-4 stacks off them make a mass slow effect to enemies and mass bloodlust to our stacks .
Lvl 7 - Black Dragons aren't as strong as they were in H4 , but stil stronger than other factions tier 7 having highest HP and damage + breath attack and magic immunity . Also 9 speed allows Blackies attack almost anyone thay want .
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Very good post and description ---main reason i choose to play dungeon. If played right it takes a very unfortunate layout or bad luck to lose. Another point on level 5 hydras is if you have teleport assault (which i almost always go for) multiheaded, rehealing, no retaliation deep hydras can wreak havoc on the enemy lines not to mention those gaurding shooters or shooters themselves.

Quote: That's quite a complicated question, and it depens on how you define "best". You can look at which creature has more power, or you can look at which town receives most power each week - the powergrowth, or power times weekly growth. Each is listed below for your information.
Level one
Highest Power: Assassin (295)
Lowest Power: Conscript (70)
Highest Powergrowth: Academy (Master Gremlin) (2100)
Lowest Powergrowth: Inferno (Imps) (1200)
Level two
Highest Power: Blood Fury (484)
Lowest Power: Zombie (150)
Highest Powergrowth: Academy (Gargoyle) (3096)
Lowest Powergrowth: Inferno and Necropolis (Demons and Zombies) (each 2250)
Level three
Highest Power: Minotauer Guard (474 - actually below Blood Fury!)
Lowest Power: Crusader (287)
Highest Powergrowth: Academy (Golems) (3213)
Lowest Powergrowth: Necropolis (Ghosts) (2808)
Level four
Highest Power: Elder Druid (846)
Lowest Power: Mage (687)
Highest Powergrowth: Necropolis (Vampires) (3695)
Lowest Powergrowth: Dungeon (Raiders) (3248)
Level five
Highest Power: Lich (1518)
Lowest Power: Genie (1126)
Highest Powergrowth: Necropolis (Liches) (4554)
Lowest Powergrowth: Academie (Genies) (3378)
Level six
Highest Power: Wraith (2588)
Lowest Power: Treant (1993)
Highest Powergrowth: Necropolis (Wraiths) (5176)
Lowest Powergrowth: Sylvan (Treants) (3986)
Level seven
Highest Power: Black Dragon (6443)
Lowest Power: Spectral Dragon (3905)
Highest Powergrowth: Dungeon (Nlack Dragons) (6443)
Lowest Powergrowth: Inferno (Arch Devils) (5794)
And as you will see if you look in the topic on the Necromancy power defficiency, the Inferno is the overall weakest city when judged only on in-town weekly creature growth, and excluding any none-reported creature growth buildings (thus, if they received one extra Pit Lord through a creature generator, they would be on level with the other cities). Likewise, under the same circumstances, the Academy is the strongest town.
the guy said it. Although I LOVE Treants for level 6

To me, the following are the most threatening for their tiers.
1 - Sprites (often in 20-40s as neutral stacks)
2 - Marksmen
3 - Master Hunters
4 - Archmagi (on par with Elder Druids)
5 - Archliches!
6 - Paladins
7 - Black Dragons

Well I think you should factor in the cost of some of these units. Assassins may be stronger, but dont they cost more? A lot of the units are actually really good in their own way, and thats what I like about this game.

By single unit:
1. Assasin
2. Blood Fury
3. Blackbear Rider
4. Grim Rider (Druid Elder and Archmage close)
5. Deep Hydra
6. Paladin (Rakshasa Rajas close)
7. Black Dragon (Titan and Magma Dragon close)
By growth:
1. Sprites(but only Familiars are important in lategame, maybe gremlins too)
2. Blood Furies and/or Marksmen (I prefer marksmen )
3. Spectres and Blackbear Riders (Master Hunters close)
4. Archmagi
5. Nightmares (Deep Hydras close)
6. Paladins and Ancient Treants (Rakshasa Rajas close)
7. Black Dragons (Titans and Magma Dragons close)
Based on calculations, modified by in-game expieience (deeply).

In my opinion, you people overevaluate the black dragon. Indeed, stat wise he's the best, but I find Magic Immunity to kill me more often than it saves me. There are many beneficial spells that can make even a Spectral Dragon stronger than a black dragon. And later in the game, damaging spells count for less and less, while the army counts for more. Thus, the beneficial spells of the light tree can boost your army's efficiency sky high. With a black dragon, he stands for less. In my opinion, the Titan comes first in a battle. Immunity to mind spells is great, but you can buff him up too.

yeah, but the range penalty hurts. Titans will never score uber damage in the first - by any means the most important - turn.
About blackies, for dungeon it's actually great they are magic immune: puppet master can't own them. The problem lies in their costs: you can't get as many of them as you'd like to, the dwelling costs too much crystals. Not mentioning the upgrade ~~
You'd have to give up matriarchs AND guilds, which is obviously a suicide. Duh.

After patching and patching, many creatures stay the same, and many change... In HoF 2.1, things look like this :
Lvl 1. Master Gremlins take first place here... Good growth, nice damage, big initiative, great ability are the assets that make the little Gremlins win the level 1 crown. The Familiars are very close with their mana stealing ability, but the great creeping provided by the Gremlins gives them the edge over other creatures.
Lvl 2. Marksmen are the most powerfull level 2 creature, and the only one that can really have a huge impact in the final battle! Fury's with their awesome creeping, have to settle with 2nd place, behind these brave archers.
Lvl 3. All these creatures are really nice, and have nice abilities, but the best is still a shooter. The Master Hunter, obviuosly. The arrows from these guys are so deadly, that they might compete even with some higher level shooters. Also Warding Arrow is a very usefull ability, and they have a double chance to trigger it! The Bears, the Cerberi, the Squires, the Golems, the Specters are really nice also, each one in their own way... The only "bad" lvl 3 are the Minos.
Lvl 4. It doesn't get any closer than this... five creatures are really close, very hard to decide which is the best. The Vampire Lords and Berserkers can't make it to the top, they just don't have what it takes. From the others Succubi and Raiders are powerfull end game creatures, the ArchMages and the Elders are unmatched for rushes, but they have some nice beneficial end-game spells too. The Imperials are always great against shooters. I'll say ArchMages, but any other can be as good or better in different parts of the game.
Lvl 5. Nightmares, no doubt about it... Huge initiative and speed, powerfull abilities, higher growth, low cost make them Inferno's main charging unit, and the best level 5 creature. Silver Unicorns are really great also, but they lack the speed badly, cause they cannot cross the field in one turn!
Lvl 6. Again, it is an easy call ... Paladins reign above all other level 6 creatures, with their speed&initiative, stats and high damage. Also their special abilities are nothing but great, and they add alot to the offensive potential of this creature, as well as to their defensive skill. Other lvl 6 creatures, are one step away from these mighty warriors, but very balanced one compared to the other. Also Lvl 6 features a strange tree, the toughest defender in the game, but also a poor attacker.
Lvl 7. And the final winner is ......... a living Dragon . which one, I can't really tell for sure. I prefer the fast&furios Emerald Dragon because of its speed (duh) and Earth-Magic-only imunnity . The Magic Imunnity of the Black, is actually a bad thing for him lool, you cannot use Armageddon with him, and you cannot bless him either. The Magma Dragon is a nightmare when it comes to taking it down, but that comes at the price of speed and damage ... and since I prefer attack orriented troops, I rank Emeralds on first place

You forgot that BD has breath atk, at late game breath atk is one of most fearsome weapon, and the creatures (except magma) that has those weapons always have enough dmg and atk to bring down 2 stack at once, not to mention lucky atk.
Sure titan is better, because they're immune to mind immunity and can be buffed, but:
Quote: yeah, but the range penalty hurts. Titans will never score uber damage in the first - by any means the most important - turn.
Besides, BD is also immune to dangerous dark magic.
And titan never bring down 2 stacks in first turn. Sometimes inferno play style with BD is good (rushing directly), especially when your lucky empowered spells cannot save you. However, that is better with sylvan.
@Towerlord: Great comments. You judge all creatures from many point of view. I like it.
About dragons, yeah they're top winner, after all dragons are adored in this game, no wonder they're the best, and i agree that emerald is great, but i would rank them 1 st with black dragon and magma, they're equal, 1 queen and 2 kings.

Yeah, I agree with TowerLord, good points! Although I personally rate Imperial Griffins higher than any other level4 unit But I agree with the rest! Emeralds indeed are one of the best, taking all the buffs they can receive&utilize into consideration.. blacks are powerful&beautiful, although, despite their supremacy-on-paper, great look and my personal love for them, they simply don't make it as best level7 unit in the game, I don't know why: It never felt as they are the best, and they died suprisingly fast most of the time, they never came close to paladins' damage, either. I'd like to see them buffed in the next patch. Seriously!
The most useful level7 unit, I'd say Arch Devils. I know they are not popular, but they do amazing job for their faction: Inferno without Devils seriously lacks a punch.

Indeed the Imperials could be first, and they are really strong, but since the nerfing of Marksmen and Skellies, Battle Dive doesn't shine as it used to before and that is why I didn't rate them on first place.

Hey Towerlord, its not far from my evaluation that i did in my topic Only change was putting hydras higher than nightmare and switching thanes with cavalier.
I chose hydras over nightmares not because they are "better" but because being warlock you need your hydras much more than you need nightmares being inferno , the same with unicorns.
Thane is more situational creature, he is not always good while paladins are, but his potential (especially with runes)is higher than paladins.
So all in all my evaluation wasn't so bad , was it?

When I saw your evaluation first, I thought it was total crap ... but after your explained your strange grading system( 7 for best of the level, 1 for the worst) , your evalution was pretty much ok, except for those two (hydra and Warlord) .
It's just the grading system that was very confusing at first, and also the way you grouped them (by town , instead of grouping them by level) led to big confusions
