Blind Spell
Everyone keeps talking about the Puppet Master spell, but they are overlooking a classic spell - Blind. The two greatest uses I found for it in the Necro campaign were:
1. Titans
Blind those Titans in the first round and waste everyone else before going back to them. Never saw the computer use "cleanse" to get them back into action. Used this trick every time I ran in to them.
2. Raise Dead
Use Blind on the last enemy stack when you are near the end of the fight and use "Raise Dead" to rebuild your army before landing the final blow(s). [Just watch out for your catapult "waking" them up - or don't take one, of course.]
Used to use a variant of this trick in HoMM3:AB and it still works well ("Resurrect True" instead of "Raise Dead").

Use Puppet Master on those feline critters - whatever they are called. No retaliation means they can attack those same titans over and over, while remaining under your spell.

Quote: Hello.
To anyone who has played/finished Episode-5:
Could anyone give me a recap of the first few weeks in their game, please?
What I want to know is:
-What did you build in your Towns?
-What creatures did you buy?
-How did you go about clearing the immidiate area?
-Were you attacked? If so, from which direction, and when?
Here's what I remember from Episode 5...
Yes I did get attacked, in the middle of week 2; they arrived on a boat and went straight for my castle. The keys to prepare for this are: hire a new hero and give him all of Isabel's troops (since Isabel's troops will defect). Then immediately take Isabel up to the island northwest of your castle, and pick up the inquisitors (they will join). Take Isabel back, and again dump off the inquisitors to your other hero ASAP so they don't defect. With the inquisitors, along with troops from your castle, you should be able to defend against the attack in Week 2. I actually passed off my troops to Isabel just to defend the castle, since she has much better stats, then immediately giving the troops back, to minimize my losses in the fight.
When you get your week 2 batch of troops you should have enough firepower to start taking out some of the mobs like the golems, griffins, etc. The free inquisitors make all the difference.
As for what to build up - the necro castle starts up pretty well build up so I just turned it into a capitol and didn't do much else. I mostly built up the haven castle getting city hall of course, and then getting griffins, priests, castle, etc. as soon as I could.

that damn bone dragons
Jeeeeeeeeezzz !!!
A problem with mission 3, with the 20 bone dragons.
I tried things posted earlier (thanks guys), but unfortunately they didn't work. I had about 46 bone dragons total, all recruited, without even building ANY bonedragon graveyards in ANY of the towns. Needless to say, I fullfilled all the primary and secondary mission objectives on the map, except recruiting 20 bone dragons (and of course the "Isabel and Markal must survive" - they're all good and well). Orange is long dead and gone, totally. So I approach the portal with Markal and his 46 bone dragons - doesn't work, it says I have to recruit 20 bd. I upgrade them to spectral dragons in one of the towns, I go again - it doesn't work, still the same. I dismiss them and go to the last goddamn stack of neutral dragons on the map, pick them up, go to the portal - ain't working either.
PLEEEEASE, GUYS, IF ANYBODY HAS ANY IDEA WHAT TO DO... I'm not gonna replay it, and even if I did, what guarantee do I have it will work the next time?

My Walkthroughs
Hi all!
I want to thank you all for providing great help. In turn, I am going to list how I made it through all 5 scenarios.
1. The Temptation: Avoid the Orange patrols - they can only see you w/in a few spaces, and can, in fact walk right past you without seeing you, at least once. Build up your army and upgrade your troops as much as possible and explore everything, before crossing the river near the bottom of the map. Once you cross, you can't go back, as a patrol unit takes up residence at the crossing. Clear this area before going underground. Once you've cleared everything, head for the underground. The patrol blocking the river will follow you underground in a few turns. Orange is the only army you need to avoid, so beat up on purple or any other army you encounter below. The rest is pretty simple and straight forward. I conquered the underground town, so I could buy stuff from the blacksmith.
2. The Attack: I found if I didn't collect the stack of resources on the land bridge enroute to the Vault of Mages (therefore, not attacking the vault), Orange didn't come at me as early. By the time they do attack, I'm strong enough to take them on and beat them. From here, follow everyone esle's advice, I did.
3. The Invasion: Build up both towns. Haven will get attacked. Then you're off. Explore, collect, kill...
4. The Regicide: Explore and collect. Build army - through battle & recruitment. Also, buy some bone dragons. Time isn't an issue, so keep going around and collecting everything. It might even be beneficial fight some of the stacks that want to run from you. It will build up your skelleton archers.
5. Lord of Heresh: This appears to be the most difficult of the five scenarios...
Haven: Build defenses, but not troop upgrades. Do not buy any troops after the first 2 or 3 weeks, let them build up. Send Isabel to collect resources and gold, but keep her close to home, until the first attack. You should have the castle defenses as built up as possible, with guard towers (they'll save your butt). Make sure you collect the gold from the water wheel every week. Keep Isabel's army small after the first attack, since most of the troops desert to Godric.
Lorekeep: Build up and upgrade troops here. Don't bother with dragons. I started with 1 dragon and took it to the battle with Godric as cannon fodder (takes a lot to kill a dragon). Have Markal collect everything around. Save the Inquisitors for at least the 3rd or 4th week, titans for 2nd or 3rd (otherwise they fairly descimate your army). I used Raise Dead & Ice Bolt most often, with an occassional Puppet Master.
Once you've built up a descent army, head toward Isabel (you should have Wraiths in your army already). Go claim whatever resources Isabel didn't. Give Markal all the artifacts (I didn't buy any, only collected what was available for free).
Now, go get Godric's daughter from the prison and head back to Lorekeep. Reclaim any mines lost to Godric, as soon as possible. Markal should have no problem with the Angels and the wings make getting to Hakm a breeze.
About ten days before the eclipse, buy all of the available troops in the Haven town and have Isabel transport them to Lorekeep. Get Markal back to Lorekeep. Change all of the Haven troops to Necro troops and load them into Markal's army (of course, you do have to leave someone with Isabel, a single peasant will do). Three days before the eclipse, send Markal to Hakm. Visit the Oasis & Well before the fight.
Use Puppet Master on the Raja things, have them wipe out the Djin(?), and on the mages to take out the Gremlins and Golems. I used Mark of Necromancy on my Wraiths to keep my mana up. Using Raise Dead (& Ice Bolt occassionally) I killed everything but some of (most) of the Mages & Titans. I sent the Plague Zombies in to kill the Mages (Raise Dead, a lot). Then Ice Bolt to get the Titans down to 1. Then I pulled my few remaining troops back. All my Wraiths were dead. So, I used Mark of Necro on my Plague Zombies. Don't attack the Titans with Zombies, the Titans will wipe them out fast.
With about 120 Zombies & <100 Archers left, I started rebuilding my army with Raise Dead. I got my Wraiths back to their max of 36 (I had to re-cast Marck of Necro on them when Godric started attacking). Once I had all of my Wraiths, ~150 Zombies, ~200 Archers, & 16 Archliches, I Ice Bolted the last Titan. The next army appears & it's a breeze. Ice Bolt the archers & the Wraiths & Zombies can wipe out the rest easily.
I started the battle with:
1 dragon (not upgraded)
~60 Archliches
800-900 Skelleton Archers
300-400 Plague Zombies
36 Wraiths
41 Vampires
~350 Spectres

Quote: Hi everyone !
First of all I want to thanks everyone who replied to questions because it helped me a lot to clear Inferno Campaign.
My problem is Chapter 3 of the Necropolis Campaign. I gatter a good army then I conquer the north east town (the one in the middle of the map) with Markals. It was easy but 2 days after I took this city a magician comes by boat and run after Markals, wherever I go. He have a lot more movement points than me so he always get me and kill me because his army is very big.
I also restarted the mission and developped the 2 towns within 1 month. I had a big army then the magician came to attack me with 1000 Gremlins 175 Archimage 8 Titans 310 Golems and more... and he was too much powerfull : double attack time, lot of spells like clone & resurection, etc.
I want to know if I did all right... What is the first town I must capture ? How can I convert it into Necropolis ? Please help me !
Sorry for my english
Thanks !
J-M
Leave from there! You don't need that town after capturing and cursing it. Go down again and then north-west with boat.

Quote: To pajdegen: Godric's daughter is in the jail right next to the Haven town. You have to use Markal to free her.
WARNING! You will be attacked by a group of 10 or so Angels as you move to take her to your Necropolis. After the battle you will get the Angel Wings artifact.
Then Godric will send a hero to invade you. In my game the hero landed at the shore next to the Hill Fort. After I defeated him, I used the Angel Wings to fly over the mountains and attacked Godric in his town.
Well...this is odd. I got Freyja from the jail with Markal. On my way back it said that I was being ambushed by angels.
Then, nothing. No attack, no fight. I *did* fight a hero and beat him, but I'm still carrying Freyja around with me and have no Angel Wings.

Quote: Yes yes yes.... I have the Bone Dragon problem !!!
I found more than 30 bone dragon on the road + some I recruited in Necropolis... I can't go in the portal to fight Cyrus. Please help us !!!!
There must be some trigger bugs. As above, I met the angels in the last map, but the fight trigger didn't happen - I had to reload and replay.
For the bone dragons, I already had 30 when I got the quest, so I simply had a second cut scene immediately following saying that I had completed the quest.

Quote: *SPOILERS*
There seems to be a plot hole in the 5th: after you capture Godric's daughter she is never mentioned again, and after a while she even disappears from your inventory. And that teleport next to the necro city doesn't seem to be functional.
According to the story, you are supposed to kidnap Freyja and then Godric attacks you (that's why there is a one-way exit near the castle).
Apparently, someone changed their mind but was too lazy to re-write/record the full story. Instead, you find wings and fly to attack him to destroy the amulet. His daughter is apparently forgotten - even by Godric - and he never leaves his castle.
Very, very sloppy.

Quote: Hi guys, 1st time post here, i m so stuck in mission 1 of necro, that stupid orange players wont budge and i cant go anywhere, is that a bug or there's a place i need to go to? cz i've explored and took all the things available to me... i thought it was time activated, but i've gone thru 1 week(in the game) without moving... and nothing happens... HELP!!!!
The orange players tend to follow a pattern. You need to move through them - think complex "Frogger" (unless you're too youg to remember Frogger).
All you need to do is to be sure you don't run into them, then use a river crossing (I used the lower right side) to continue on.

Also, you need the Staff of the Netherworld to curse the Mage cities and turn them into Necropolises.
Hi,
I'm playing the Invasion map - everything going well and using Markal took the town of Ziyad. I now have the Staff equipped in Markal's hand but I cannot see where/how to Curse the town of Ziyad...
It's really starting to annoy me. I've looked through all of his spells - nothing. Can anyone tell me how to actually curse a town? What "button" should I be looking for?
Kind regards
Lee
Visit the town with Markal and when u go out the game will ask u if u want to curse the town by paying some gold.

*WARNING SPOILER*
Wyz_sub10: Godric's daugter is not forgotten. After encounter with angels, Markal says something like: "Now I have wings, who cares about Godric's daugter now.". And after that combat I noticed a ghost appeared in Markal's army. I guess Markal killed her. That naturally explains why Godric stopped trying to save her.

Ah!! Thanks for that! You're more observant than I am because I missed that entirely.
Does Godric bring it up at the end? I don't recall.

I have difficulties with the last campaign, seems I don't assemble a big enough undead army. I read in a posting, that you can turn Haven creatures into undead creatures: how do I do that, other then fighting them?!?!
TIA,

Bring the Haven creatures to Lorekeep and use the building there to convert them (click on the ghost-like image in the middle of the city options button).

Wyz, maybe I'm more observant because I had no ghosts in my army and when one appeared it surely catched my attention
And I don't remember any references by anybody in the plot to the Godric's daughter after Markal slaughtering angels.

I got struck on it for sometime too, the trick is to cast mark of the dead? on one of his creatures, and everytime you attack, you regain mana, and then you use puppet master or raise dead, you will have infinite mp, and gordic will run out of his.. you will win eventually..
