I answer like always
why u people dont plays online; about long turns - u can adjust turn limit for one-two min and if u have pretty fast connection that will be no problem

This is very curious to me?  So you aren't fighting your own battles, it must be quick combat since one battle can last for more than two minutes.  So part of the fun is gone.  But even so can you build what you want build and move all your creatures in two minutes, I've never tried.

I had fun with heroes IV, I liked the magic system (isn't it the best in the series?) and the combat was fun...what pissed me off was castle sieges.  A big shooter stack standing on a tower could wipe me out easily...so I gave up with Heroes iv pretty quick and went back to II.  Never tried equilibrus though.

The original question is still good though, why doesn't heroes IV have it's own site?

Lets not talk about our favorite versions anymore. I don't think there are enough people to form a Heroes IV community. How did you guys get into Heroes IV anyway? Was it your first Heroes game to play? Did you aquire a taste for it after playing the game so much?

Why not talk about favourite versions? Why not talk about HOMM6, for example? I got into HOMM4 because of HOMM3. The group I used to belong to (I think it's gone, and I can't even remember the name: Astral Wizard?) spent a lot of time and space discussing HOMM4 ages before it was programmed or even certain that it was going to come out. Unfortunately, few of those ideas were taken up, but it's still not a bad game, and I do like the magic system.

Reasons why I still play HOMM4:
1. I went back to HOMM3 and realised there were too many things I missed from 4;
2. I have finally figured out (with a lot of help from this forum and the Heroes Round Table) how to use the completely undocumented Editor.
3. So far, I have been unable to find anywhere that compares HOMM5 sufficiently with previous games to induce me to buy it.

HoMM 1 bad? What??? It's one of the better Heroes' games. Sure, the graphics are dated. But it has one of the strongest AI's. Don't put down something or listen to others until you play it. But if graphics, not gameplay, is what you favor, then don't play it.

Heroes I is not bad, nor has bad graphics. The real problem is the terrible balancing between the four classes. Also, there is no campaign - you only get to play a series of scenarios.

Nevertheless, you should check it out. Try an abandonware website and give it a go.

Heroes 3 is the best.
But naturally latest versions have better graphs so that's advance for them.

And oh yeah... About H4 I like the seaman music-theme and also that heroes can participate in combat.

I love HOMM IV, but I don't play online, I can't, I can't just connect to other games somehow... Even gamespy fails... But I would say that HOMM IV is the best HOMM game ever, I love the hero system, caravan that made those external dwellings useful. And the ranged retaliation is a good thing and I love that the both stacks attack the same time, except if first strike and that stuff... Siege is more realistic than in HOMM III. A minus is no upgrades... But that's the reason it has fewer creatures than HOMM III and upgrades made a mess with external dwellings. Potions are quite useless for me though, but I would give HOMM IV a 9/10 for sure, it is more balanced than Homm III. And WoG has not even seen balance . I don't care if you don't like Homm IV, but don't just insult us because of it, some people even play runescape and that, even thought I think it sucks.

I think HoMM II and IV tie for second-best just below III.

Good things about HoMM IV:
- interesting alignment ideas
- interesting schools of magic (nice variety from III, even if I like III's system better - everything doesn't have to be the same in every game)
- FANTASTIC campaign storylines (Pirate's Daughter, Waerjak and Emilia campaigns are right up there next to the BEST campaigns of previous games when it comes to catching you and not letting you go (I'm here thinking of all of SoD + Warlords of the Wasteland + Clash of the Dragons + Dragon's Blood + Sword of Frost))
- in the beginning I hated there were only four lvls of creatures, but I was young and dumb. It has grown on me that you have to choose and that you can assemble your own specific kind of town
- the heroes on battlefield is again maybe not the BEST feature ever, but it is a NICE VARIETY. Stop complaining. Yes, III may be even better, and maybe it shouldn't be a continuing feature in later games (we ignore that V has already been made). But it was nice to try it, and I thought it worked ok
- the heroes-less armies, the flaggable mills etc. and the caravans are FABULOUS

Bad things about HoMM IV: (not enough to prevent me from playing it)
- no random map generator
- Overlords now merely Thieves and Warlocks now Sorcerors (where they were once dark, aristocratic mages, they're now just ruffians... eh???)
- too few scenarios
- a bit slow on my computer, even today
- only one faction has Town Gate and unlike Town Portal, you can't choose which town. Very annoying when you're far from home
- where the worlds in III are usually labyrinth-like - like 'there are four roads away from your castle', in IV there's a lot more open space, and this doesn't work well, since armies, no matter their size, always only fill ONE TILE, so enemies can easily slip past you outside your view. In III this wasn't a problem, since every way you'd go was so narrow that you couldn't miss anyone coming the opposite way
- no new storyline info about the fate of Sandro (hey, I'd really like that)
- the expansion storylines are unrelated to the storylines of the original IV and they fail entirely in recapturing the startling brilliance of the aforementioned storylines

I play IV more than II, even though the Warlocks of II are my ideal town tied with Dungeon from III. In my world, there is no Heroes V, I have never heard of it. Dark elves? Bah!

I'm tired of people complaining about IV. I was disappointed in 2003 and so on, but when I played it again in this Heroes revival I'm having right now (haven't been near either forums or consistent game-playing since 2005, so has been a while) I was IMMENSELY SURPRISED, cos' it was MUCH BETTER than I had imagined. My only real problem is that it makes me melancholic, because it reminds me of 2001-2004, and I get nostalgic and miss old friends (both online and real life), the 3do forums, mmportals and Lady Melanthe...

This is how I think about the games.

1. Didnt play. I dont even think I was born then lol. Its ANCIENT!

2. Heroes 2. Downloaded it. Its pretty funny.
But it lacks skills like Logistics, Sorcery etc.
Also I cant stand some creatures... The Chicken-Phoenix hybrid anyone?
7.5/10 or 3.5/5

3. Heroes 3 was one of my favorites game for a LONG time. I played it from when I was 5 years old to Heroes 5 was released.
I still play it sometimes and loved its multiplayer with my dad
It was wonderful but lacks things compared to H5.
Also some parts of the storyline was weird.
And like H5 it lacks a good skills and many spells are useless.
4/5 or 8/10.

4. I did not like Heroes 4. It felt like a completly new game that was not even similar to the previous games.
Although heroes in combat was realistic and cool, the graphics were totally super ugly and the opening cinematic story cheap.
Also I didnt like the few creatures in the towns.
Didnt like this at all.
0.5/5 or 1/10.

5. Heroes 5 was great. First I though it was going to become like WoW and I told my friends about it.
Although the storyline was not that good, it was easy to understand for those not familiar with the old story.
And the storyline in Tribes of the East is wonderful.
Tribes of the East also made H5 complete. It became a totally new game. It fixed everything. I just love the Orcs and the graphics are wonderful!
Just look at Sylvan town! Although some creatures look silly (Peasants and Gargoyles and Black Dragons), Heroes 5 feels like a modenr, fresh game that has a excellent skill system and the story makes sense compared to the old games.
Instead of having "Lol lets mix 7 completly diffrent creatures in a town, also give them 60% human heroes in all factions!!!!lol lol" they have race-based towns.

Heroes 5 totally has 5/5 or 10/10. I wish I could give it higher points, I love it!

So the ranking is...

4. Heroes IV
3. Heroes II
2. Heroes III
1. HEROES V

IMO, the ranking is this:
WoG>H2>H5>H4>H1>H3. That's not to say that H3 is bad, but after you get used to playing WoG, it seems very boring.

Heroes I - The first HoMM (I don't played it,but I see videos and images with it)
Heroes II - A good HoMM
Heroes III - Best in series like HoMM 5
Heroes IV - Not a very good HoMM game(I play only the Winds of War)
Heroes V - Best in series like HoMM3

And`I don't want to make sad the HoMM 4 fans

If we still talking about rankings... I noticed that majority of "not-fan" H4 just don't know this game. They just miss deep possibility of strategy and tactic on this game. And I really know why. Answer is simple - it is fault of stupid AI on this game.
And for me is only one good way to play it - ONLINE

@Brennus

I'm not a Heroes IV fan, probably you know this from my previous posted comment, but I agree with your first comment on this topic:

We need some new website.
Places where they will respect us!

Probably HoMM 5,3,2,1 fans should respect the HoMM 4 fans and the game...Because you say "heroes 4 sucks",but is not a very bad HoMM game

AND WITH THIS I WANT TO FINISH THE CONFLICT BETWEEN THE HOMM 4 FANS AND THE OTHER HOMM FANS
because these are only games we don't need to start a war
