Quite a good summary. Still, I'm one of those who likes to dither around and explore every corner of a map, and I think I can do that even better with H4 so long as it's not been set too hard. With a lot of H3 maps, you knew that if you didn't capture a town within the first two weeks you'd have no chance.

I don't know really. I see a lot of friends playing it and they always seem to win after playing a week on the same map. They often end with, what I think, too many creatures.
I think the biggest reason why they dislike HoMM IV is because of the lack of upgrades,
I have another argument for the statement from my last post: The hero is more of a support character for the creatures in the third installment if you think about it. I guess this makes it clearer what 3DO/NWC were thinking when they made HoMM IV - They wanted to give the heroes a bigger part. Sad they didn't get more time than needed if that's true. I think it turned out to be a great game after 3.0 anyhow. You might say that the fourth should've been a seperate series, but then again in many game series the gameplay changes drastically round the fourth game (not all).
Examples(don't know how to use the spoilers function so  ): Silent Hill IV(bad), Prince of Persia 2008 (BAD), OoT (Terrific), Donkey Kong 64 (Good), Civ IV(Good), FFIV (Good), Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath (Hmmm), Arc: Twilight of the Spirits (bad)
Anyway, back on topic... I don't really think we need a fan site. We are too few for it to be any use at all. What we could do though is start a more updated thread for ourselves where we come and discuss and setup matches (yes, I've got HoMM IV working online Played with friends through gamespy arcade).

Best way to play h4 online is hamachi and best version is Equilibris which balances it very well.

I never liked the fan made mods....
But then let me explain it:
ok good thing to power up:nagas and ogre mages because they are indeed was useless and even with the mod they are weaklings compared to genie or cyplos.
The fact i dont like:they cared nothing with nature and life creatures.the monk still get nothing special and weak,this also true about the 3level nature creature i mean grif and unicorn.
And another bad thing is inclued some game breaking spells:terror,or resurection....
Oh and they descrated the two mighty creature genie and vampire they weaker....but the cyclops remain unchanged unfair .
So i dont even bother to try it.
I play with the latest OFFICAL PATCH.

To balance a game is to make more strategies worthwhile. It is not to overpower something, so it can be abused over and over again.
What I can read from your words is that you want a game less demanding on your type of play. Just beef up the already strong units, like Monk (fantastic shooter), Griffin (unlimited retaliation) or Unicorn (strong mellee and comes with Terror).
Genie and Vampire had to become weaker! They were so overpowered that a hero could invest only in one of those creatures and steam roll the opposition - just split them and abuse them. Might has already a very hard time even with his stronger units - to cripple it by weakening Cyclops is to break the only decent shooter it has.
If you want something more akin a real challenge, use Equilibris.

So many posts oftopic, so many people want to give grades to each game in homm universe 
I agree with BrennusWhiskey about having a new site which would be only for Homm 4, there we could discuss balance, AI, graphics and everything else about our favorite game as here but without the accidental visitor (lover of homm 3 or other homm) that posts in ANY topic "I hate Homm 4 it was the worse game ever".
Even this topic proves what I mean, that's why I support Brennus.
I am willing to help if it's needed although I don't have many skills, at least I will be able to visit it often and fill out the new forums

Agreed with you but I also believe that many of those guys here don't care at all about homm 4 and dare judge it by only seeing it once in their life. This would be avoided if there isn't the rest of the homm world near the homm 4.
I would love to have a discussion with a guy that played it for some time and started hating it after.
If there's a site specially for it, people that don't pay much attention for homm 4 won't bother to come there, that's why Brennus says we need a site where they will respect us

I don't think there is such a site. There are a handful of H4 lovers around here, and some that have been very dedicated to the game, but doesn't seem like a lot of activity regarding that game anymore.
As for haters and them disrupting discussions here, please don't hesitate to write one of the moderators if people are going off topic in posting hateful remarks without content towards the game. It will be considered spam and taken care of as such following the Code Of Conduct.

I'd be happy to make a H4 forum. Though, I like H3 and H5 better, I think H4 is cool, too, and I am willing to open a forum about it. But first I want to see how many who'd been willing to join, as I don't want to waste my time on making inactive forums.

ME! i like heroes 4! though i like other HOMM too. for me, HOMM make a lot different strategy game. you must take care of the resources, heroes, creatures, even artifacts you are carrying and also the spell you have. in heroes 4, though i also think it is unfinished, the strategy got a little bigger and more convenient too (like having a caravan and creatures can scout the map and carry items). there are reason to hate h4 but only if you expect that much for it, and you would atleast like it if you had played with it with your friends or other HOMM player online. H4 fans, don't give up on H4!

Heroes 4 is a good game,but it just doesn't have enough magic as III had.Compared to the previous version,it feels like somethings missing.

There is a lot of powerful magic in h4 and graphics is great in comparison to h3. I think that this game is just too difficult for the most of the players of previous parts.
