Hmm, does this mean we can change our "talent" every week? For instance, once classes start up again, I'm going to lose access to a piano, so I'll need to substitute something else. ...Or record all my stuff right now and store it somewhere.

Good question, Iris. Woock had asked me the same thing yesterday on Messenger, so I guess that I had better Reply (although this is getting alot more organized than I wanted before actually seeing if there is enough interest in the game ).
The answer to whether or not contestants can change their talent along the way, is a resounding YES.
If in the first round you decide to sing, dance, or play the piano; and then make it to the next round and decide to juggle, make pixelart, or write a poem; then it is up to you!
Keep in mind that if people voted you through one round, based on the talent that you showcased, and then you go and change things up completely, you are running the risk that people will not vote you through again. Of course this can be advantageous if you feel that you didn't get many votes last time or if showing off a particular talent on the internet is too difficult or time consuming.
As I said, that was an excellent question, and I welcome anyone else who might have a suggestion or an inquiry to go ahead and Post it.

Might = maybe...What is maybe?
Can I spend it? Can I give it to my wife as a gift?
Seriously, would you ever invest lots of your time into setting something up hoping that maybe someone will participate? Or would you prefer solid YES and NO answers?
That is why, Russ, there isn't a "might/maybe" option in the Poll...I would just consider it as a NO.
Good question, though, I was just razzing you about it.

I'm up for that
just one thing, if we're going 1v1, do we have to do the same thing?
and also I think we should have a poll for the best person throughout the time period, and they have that week (or however long) to prove themselves and get more votes before voting time is up. then if you're losing you can try and be more impressive to make a comback
as to what I'm signing up for, well, I'm pretty confident, so if we do have to do the same as our opponent I'll match what they do (unless I can't do it ) but I guess my online-proveable talents would be something along the lines of online gaming (not heroes I suck at that, Halo2, Dawn of War, Rise of Legends), storytelling, creating new H3 units , and um..... god there's got to be more.. I'll get back to ya

Ok...I'm joining all of you in the Talent Contest.
I will be singing and, hopefully, will be able to get a video online of myself doing so (instead of just having a wav file). To help clear up any misunderstandings of the rough-estimate-rules, imagine that this competition will follow the AMERICAN IDOL format:
-Competitors will have 5 days to make a Post showcasing their talent.
-At the end of the 5 days, I will begin accepting votes by IM from HC members for 2 days. (Similar to American Idol's voting system for "2 hours after the show".)
-After the 2 days go by, I will announce who has been eliminated and open the next round of the competition (i.e. 5 days to Post talent).
N.B. Competitors can have different talents from each other and can even change their talent from one week to another. Essentially, this IS NOT a singing competition, a writing competition, a drawing competition, etc...This is a TALENT CONTEST!

Of course I'm going to sign up myself.
I am not sure what kind of talent I'll be showing yet because my original idea may be a little too hard to execute, so I may stick with a story instead.
On a side note, I think this thread belongs to the Coliseum. If Leo and the mods agree, please move it there. If it's going to stay here, please at least make it sticky because if no one posts in, it may get buried to page 2 within a few days.
A question to Leo: you might have mentioned but for how many weeks is the contest going to be? If there a lot of participants maybe there should be 2 people eliminated per week.
Also, another suggestion: how about if contestants can vote for their favorite talent for the week and thus make the one with the most votes immune to elimination?
ANother question: what if for example, I decide that the talent I've shown is good enough, a winning one and I don't want to change it until the end of the contest. I understand I can change it but what if I don't want to?
Thanks.

"Can" implies lack of obligation. You may, but don't have to, I guess. If you wanna showoff the same talent several times in a row, why not?

I got a few questions, too.
1. When's it starting?
2. How many people do we have (i.e. how many weeks is this going to last)?
3. Should we combine like talents into groups and vote that way? (e.g. music group--singing and instrument playing; arts group--drawing, dancing, and origami; and so on and so forth?)

Welcome to the competition, Milena! To start things off, I'll try to answer a few of your questions:
*Don't worry about this Thread staying active, once the "Sign-up period" is done, I'll have this Thread sent to the VW and will start 2 new Threads (here in the Tavern). I'm sure that I (or someone else) will be Posting in those often enough to keep them on the 1st page.
*How long this competition will last will depend on how many HC members decide to participate and if they all Post each week. As I said in a earlier Post, if one or more contestants do not make a Post showcasing their talent in a given week (i.e. 5 day limit), they will be eliminated before the person with the least votes does.
{If there's anything that I learned from Mark Your Territory or the WANTED GAME, it's that there is always a certain percentage of participants that will not submit something/anything in a given timeframe...unfortunately. }
*As for having the contestants vote for their favourite, I had also considered this option; but in the end, I decided against it. My reasons being that #1- Having immunity one week might keep someone from making a Post the next week. #2- Contestants will be able to vote as they are eliminated. #3- I do not want to encourage "teams" or "tribes" to form, where one person votes for another & vice-versa.
*As for showcasing the same talent throughout the entire competition, I have to agree with Woock. Ok...now for Iris' questions:
*I will create the Contest & Comments Threads on Sunday, September 3rd. From there, contestants will have until Friday night to make a Post in the Contest Thread, showcasing their talent. After the deadline passes, I will make a Post in the Contest Thread opening the voting by IM. On Sunday, September 10, I will make another Post in the Contest Thread declaring who has been eliminated and opening the next round of the competition. And so on, and so on...
*So far, we have:
1> Leo_Lion (singing)
2> Iris (piano)
3> Lady_Milena (writing)
4> TitaniumAlloy (gaming)
5> FoG (singing)
6> william (creating techno)
7> ChEsHiReKaT (computer graphic/web design)
8> Antipaladin (comedy)
9> Woock (pixelart)
10> Ruby (singing)
11> kookastar (writing)
12> RealDeal (comedy)
*Separating the participants into different categories, based on their talents, might make things too complicated. I want HC members who will be voting to have a clear and simple process that they can follow. I hope that I have answered everyone's questions and that everyone will spend the next week or so preparing their talents. I know that I will...La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-laaaaa!
