Was there some kind of crime involved?
Was he alergic?
Did he realize the octopus' taste and ingredients was not what he previously wanted?
Did the octopus had something inside it? (for example a bomb?  )

The thing that is strange is that he went out of the restaurant before dying - surely if it could kill him in one bite, if it was the octopus that killed him at all, then it would have got him there and then. So my question is,
Did he have to leave the restaurant to die?
Also: did it have to be a restaurant, or could the same thing have happened in say someone's home?

Solution?
The man went to the hospital to get the surgery that "shrienks" you stomache so you would eat less and lose weight. After that, to celebrate the end of his "fat days", the man went to his favorite restaraunt for his favorite meal. After taking the first bite, the man remembered the surgery and that he mustn't eat anything for a period of time, he goes out of the restaraunt, pukes, and dies because of the surgery short-time side effect.
A more general guess, the man had surgery and he wasn't supposed to eat fr some time. The rest is like above.

Was the Octopus in fact a Squid?
Was he not supposed to eat an octopus? (say, a doctor forbidden him to eat such a thing)
EDIT: EliteKill, that won't work because it was important that it was an octopus and not a trout

Did he or the person the octopus reminded him have terrible experiences with octopuses? (what's the plural of octopus anyway?)
With terrible experiences I mean deaths and other things like that (f.ex: an octopus (or more) killed his friend)
