Just to get this straight...
So the man died because of the taste of the octpus reminded him of a friend of his? Was the trauma the direct cause of his death (As in, he died because he took his friend's death so hard) or is there more to it?
Edit: Yeah it sounds like what Alci said, but I just wanted to ask more precisely.

I'm really confused about the part wit the memories killing him. Hmmm ...
Would a doctor say that it was the memories that killed him, or provide another cause for his death?
Did he suffer from any malidy?
Did he die from trouble with his heart?
Did he die from lack of oxygen?
Did he die from an issue with his brain?
Did anybody else take any part in his death, or could the same thing have happened in the (unlikely case) that he had been walking thrue an empty desert and stumbled upon a plate of (fresh) octopus?

You shouldn't focus too much on the "details" of the death, this will probably lead ya to wrong conclusions.
Of course it is (in a medical way) hard to explain how someone can die coz of his memories.....Let's just call it "heartattack coz of memories..."
Focus more on the man...there is still a hugh info u still haven't found......

Was his friend human?
Was his friend an octopus?
If so, was it the octopus he ate?

Hmmm...
Was something special about that particular octopus he ate? (or there could be any other octopus instead)
Did he meet the octopus before?
Did the old man did something terrible to his friend after he died? (I'm thinking about eating him for example ).

Hey! Listen! My insane guess for the solution!
???
The man was a sailor. His friend was killed and the old man was for some reason forced to eat the octopuses inside his friend's stomach!
Okay maybe not...
Oh well.
Did the old man kill his friend?

Was he forced to eat his friend to stop himself starving?
Ooh wait, here's a possibility - he had to eat his friend at some point, but he thought he was eating octopus. When he actually got to trying it in the restaurant, he realised it didn't taste at all like he remembered it, and this meant he suspected he had eaten his friend, hence puking and dying from the memory?

This is close to the truth, so I will count is as "riddle solved",
Here is how it "really" happened:
The man was a blind sailor on a fishing boat. His best friend was the captain. The captain died during a long trip where they didn't caught any fish for a very long time. The crew was close to die of starvation, when they caught a few octopusses. They knew those few fishes won't last long enough to keep the whole crew alive. So they gave a piece of the captain to the blind man every day...
And when he ate a "real" octopus for the first time (in the restaurant), the whole truth came into his mind at once....and that causes a heart attack and made him die....

Nice I'm quite pleased with myself for coming up with that, I'm not usually very good with this sort of thing. May I take the next riddle, if I can get one? (I've got one in mind, I just need to remind myself of it in full.)
