Did eating the octopus remind him of someone that was close to him being killed by an octopus or being killed eating a bad/poisonous octopus?
Did he die for the same reason that made him puke?
Or did he f.ex.choke on the puke?
Amazing how all Angelito's riddles have to do with people dying...

Did his friend die?
If so, did his friend die because of octopuses (directly or indirectly)?
Did he (the man that ate octopus) die intentionally (suicided or such)?

Did octopus(es) have anything to do with his friend at all?
Was his friend directly 'connected' to octopuses? ('cause of his job, hobby, or just a random pick, etc).
Did the man ate octopuses when his friend died?
Did the man saw his friend die?
If so, did he see/hear octopuses when his friend died?

Quote: A man goes into a fish restaurant. He orders trout. "Sorry, all regular fish already sold out today, we only have octopus left" says the waiter. "Ok, no problem, I take the octopus then".
A bit later, the waiter serves the meal. The man takes 1 bite, goes out of the restaurant, pukes....and dies.
Don't know if this solution has been offered before; was too lazy to read through the text, but...
He eats the octopus, dislikes it from some reason (REALLY dislikes it, in taste or in some weird emotional way), runs out of the restaurant into the street and starts puking. He was bowed down and some driver didn't see him; so he hit him and the man died

When the waiter says Octopus, does that indeed refer to an Octopus, or is it in fact a cover of something else that is served to the man?
