One question: I want to change the playable tavern heroes:
example: I want to replace Nur with Maahir, that male-looking woman dark elf to Thralsai, etc. Can you give me the step by step process? I know you can do that in the .pak file. I tried opening it by unzipping but there are too many files.

I did try and found the standard Pre-set Editor does limit your options. The Hero is limited to level 15 stats and they likely have a set limit for total army strength as well.
If you've not already discovered, the other is likely a Mod and goes around the limits but idk for sure.
One bummer I noticed is they don't include Campaign Hero pics like H3 did. Might not matter much for a duel but for mapmaking purposes tis also a drag.

Right, not sure if it's the right place to post, but whatever.
We with a friend are playing HoMM 5 ToE, Steam version. We play multiplayer via ubi.com. One problem we have is that there is far too little team maps, and most team maps have locked starting factions.
I have decided to remedy this by downloading repackaged original maps from [url=http://www.heroesofmightandmagic.com/heroes5/original_maps.shtml]this very site[/url] and editing them in the map editor that comes with the game. I chose Allies map, and done basic editing - just replaced all the castles with Random Town object.
However, problems rose when trying to play this online. When trying to connect to me, my friend gets a checksum error, despite the fact that I have given the map to him. Moreover, the map name at his end appears to be completely blank, despite the fact that I have given my map a proper name and it's not blank at me.
Playing standard maps works normally.
Any advice on how to fix this is appreciated.

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed that problem (if there is already such topic and you could relate me to it, that would be great )
When playing custum maps in Tribes of the East I noticed a problem with mages guild. When you play a map that was added in ToE everything is fine, but when you play one from Hammers of Fate or vanilla, new spells (from ToE) don't appear in the mages guild. I tried it on several maps with several mages guilds; spells like Arcane Crystal, Deep Freeze or Sorrow will not appear among the vanilla spells on those maps.
Any ideas how to fix it?

I just opened HoMM5 again and I rediscovered a very annoying feature: is there a way to stop or, even better, to remove the cheering sounds of your army at the end of a battle? It lasts for several useless seconds, when you can do nothing else but look at the screen and wait for it to end. Annoying and even time-consuming. How do I get read of this, please?

Arcane crystal bug?
Hello. I was wondering - if i place an arcance crystal next to enemy distance unit, will that unit be unable to shoot? So i started new game with Mage Guild already at lvl 2 and then i noticed something weird. I was unable to get Arcane Crystal spell, i've been trying for about 15minutes (new game->check for crystal->new game.....). I've been doing that in towns with summ magic (Academy, Necro, Dungeon) and neither of them had crystal. I have ToE, 3.1 version. I also checked if it's becouse of mods, but no - it isnt. Can someone explain why it's happpening? Rather than crystal i'm always getting Raise Dead or crappy Bees

Try on different map. Crystal spell come with ToTe so it is possible that you play old map where ToTe spells are not enabled.
You can enable this on maps via the editor.

Does Arcane Omniscience (Academy's ultimate) gives acces to "improved" spells (such as mass Haste, AoE Decay etc.)?

No, you'll still need Master of Wrath, Master of Pain etc for it

Town music
All my H5 versions (Vanilla, HoF and ToTE) are patched up to their latest version, without mods or anything - only the official releases. I notice that whenever I enter a town, the theme begins from the start. This was not always the case, it would just continue playing like in every other Heroes game I have.
I am really annoyed by this and it doesn't make playing H5 as fun as it used to. Is there a way to change it back to normal?

Dies you should install 5.5, if you feel like playing H5 you can't go wrong by going there.

That depends. Can you install the mod like a seperate game like HotA? This way I have SoD/H3 complete and HotA as two seperate entities. If H5.5 has to be installed over the original, I'm not going to do it .

Yes, that was my original concern too. Just copy the tote directory and install 5.5 in the copied directory

Cold Death vs War Machines
I wonder if Cold Death (Makes spells Ice Bolt and Circle of Winter more powerful. Those spells will kill at least one creature, if that creature has no Immunity to Cold) works on War Machines? If i menage to cast Circle Of Winter to harm enemy machines will they be destroyed no matter of their HP?

I bought H5 gog version, and I got 2 items, 2 GB each, Hammers of Fate and Tote. Do I need to download them both, and if yes, which order to install please?

First, patch your original game to 1.6, then install Hammers of Fate (2.1), then Tribes of the East (3.0 -> 3.1).

Looks like everything is inside but yet got 2 of them for 1 item bought, so not sure what to do.

Well, install the original game first, and check the version. Should be 1.6. Then install HoF (should be 2.1), then TotE (should be 3.1).
