Just checking - did you notice the last part of my post? the one that starts with a green sentence?

Daystar's comments:
Myth Units (Fantasy/Magic/Mystic)
Fortress
Minotaur: I was orriginally sceptical, but then I remebered that the original minotaur was the son of the Sea God, Poseidon. Good choice.
Medusa: I really think of Medusa as being more related to stone, but a sea medusa is fine. Especially if they were presented as being transformed Nagas.
Manticore: I'm not really sure where this one fits in for a water town. Again, I see them as stoney more than aquatic.
Cyclops: Again, not expected but Sons of Sea God Poseidon. Nice. Also, good strong crushy things.
Hydra: Always happy to see a hydra. They can fit in pretty much anywhere.
My recomendation: It's mostly good, but I'd advise replacing Manticore with Triton, or possibly Hippocampus.
In fact, the troops weren't picked because they were particularly water-based, only the race was - the creatures and regiments come from the proposed idea (from Geny?) of having a Greek-mythology based-town. So it's kind of coincidental that they fit fairly well. I probably rearrange a little to sort out the manticore thing. Triton could work, but Hippocampus is (to my knowledge) not land-walking, so would look a little strange...

Castle
Falcon: Just fine.
Pegasus: Just fine, though I never understood how they fit in an army.
Unicorn: You have two horses now, what's going on?
Sphinx: Odd to see them in a "Light" town, as they were rather evil creatures. Still, that was depending on your mythology, so just fine. I'll mention them later.
Gryphon: Just fine.
My recomendation: Take out the Pegasus/Unicorn (depending on your preference) and move the rest of the units up. In the remaing slot, put Valkyries, Angels, or something similar.
I'm with you on the Pegasus, but I was running low on ideas. Removing it and leaving the Unicorn could be a solution, but there are problems with your two suggestions - Angel is already present, and Valkyrie would be much more suited to a regiment type name. I suppose I could put Valkyrie as the top level Tower regiment and put Angel in the Lizardman lineup (although it makes it a little more similar to HoMM).
And the Sphinx - again, didn't know what to put in, but I think it works quite well.

Tower
Sprite: Jut fine.
Caladria: Just fine.
Genie: Genies are rather deserty, while Sprites are forresty. It's kinda incongruous, but it could work, depending on how it looks, or the mythology involved.
Roc: Just fine.
Thunderbird: Seems a lot like the Roc if not presented well, but I like both so it works just fine.
My recomendation: Is not necessary here, it's just fine.
Great . I think it could just work .
Quote:
Sanctuary
Gnome: Yay, they're cute.
Wolf: Wolves and Gnomes work together? Aren't Gomes kind of the wolves' natural food?
Dryad: Fine
Centaur: Good.
Treant: Good, but it could use a different name so people don't start screaming "Tolkien!" Dendroid works.
My recomendation: I don't think wolf works here, they're too wild. A werewolf might, however. Your lineups seem to be in defiance of stereotypes, so why not let werewolves be good guys?
I suppose you're right on the Gnomes! I'm less keen on the Werewolf idea however, so the wolf might have to stay, unless something else pops up. As for the Treant name, I used this because I prefer it - Dendroid always did sound a bit strange, even though it's etymologically sensible. I guess this is up for debate.
Anyway, I though Tolkien used "Ent"

Stronghold
Gog: Demons and big cats working together? If that floats your boat....
Cerebus: See above.
Balor: I'm not sure what these are, so I'll abstain from comment.
Chimera: Odd choice, but It works.
Giant: Giants have always been associated with Ice, so a fire town might not be the best place. However, if you put "Fire Giant" as the name, it would leave you open for giants in other places.
My recomendation: The Myth units here need a bit of a rethink, in my personal opinion.
Fire Giant is a good point, I'll add that. The Gog is not a demon really, just a minion-like creature, maybe Familiar would be better? As for the Cerberus, now that the Dwarves have left you are right to say this is not so appropriate. The Manticore could move in here perhaps?
Quote:
Citidel is just fine. My only complaint is
Effreet: Effreets are fire spirits. Why are they in the shadow?
Actually, Lampades are light-related creatures. But, the "Dark" mention just means they use spells of this type, not that they necessarily worship it etc.; nevertheless, the creatures aren't perfect. Any suggestions for replacement(s)?

when you were making these towns, what sought of theme were you thinking of for each?
each race has got to have a theme, otherwise it just seems kinda bad.
Nekoma, i imagined as, mongolian warlord, or along similar lines. with a name like stronghold, it makes it even better. fire and lots of it, so this makes me think of volcanos, fire scars and lots of singed fur.
with lizardmen, you seemed to have made them medieval like people, which is ok, but lizardmen are generally mediterrian or tropical jungle, or desert, for environment purposes.

Love, Laugh, Learn, Live.
Hmm, themes - I guess a Jungle / Med theme would work very well for the Naga.
Dwarfs I was thinking H3 Rampart-style, perhaps slightly more Oriental or Native-American.
Beholders would be like H5 Dungeon / Inferno without the fire / Necropolis
Nekoma I was actually picturing like the H5 Fortress; Lizardmen like Haven; Sylphs like the H3 Tower / Conflux .

Daystar, why do you want to swap Dwarves and Nekoma? I thought we've established that Nekoma's element is fire and Dwarves fit well with the earth element.

Yes, we had decided to swap the Dwarves and Nekoma from what you suggest since bixie says they are more appropriate this way round.
I won't change the Haven-like town to Avains because that's basically what Sylphs are, but I may use the name Avian for the current Sylph faction .
Geny - I've read through your post. I agree with "philosophy", and like nature / life / death! What would your suggestions for combinations be:?
To summarise: each faction has: good / neutral / evil; philosophy (worship); magic focus; offensive / balanced / defensive
We need single words to describe the first and last - `goodness` just do the job, and nature is to vague ... ???

Like I said, before distributing all the "stats" I want to know peoples oppinion on matches that are a must. I'm not much of a mythology expert, so I don't have much to say about it, but some examples:
Tactics:
Dwarves - Defense
Nekoma - Offense
Philosophy
Dwarves - Nature
..... and I guess that's it
After we get more oppinions the remaining options can be distributed freely among the remaining races.

well.... if no one's gonna propose anything the here's what I've come up with (most of it is has completely no basis):
Alignment Tactics Philosophy
Naga Neutral Balanced Life
Lizard Good Deffensive Death
Sylph Good Offensive Life
Dwarf Neutral Deffensive Nature
Nekoma Evil Offensive Death
Beholder Evil Balnced Nature

The Naga and the two Good towns:
Because the Naga are based on the Roman idea, I thought defensive would be most sensible, but balanced is fine in itself.
Lizardmen it doesn't really matter.
For me the Sylphs should not be offensive. I pictured them as a gentle race focused on healing and so forth.
Hence I ended up with my original suggestions.
I'd prefer to stick to one of these. This would normally be the point where I ask everyone else which they think works, although the response may be lacking...
As for your Philosophies, I quite like those, although some of them don't fit perfectly. I've tried but failed to come up with an alternative. There are two obvious ones for me: Sylphs with life, and Dwarves with nature. The others are more difficult to discern. Again, I wonder if anyone could suggest a possible alternative set of Philosophies???
____________
Yeah, I know what you're saying about Philosophies. I'm not sure about anything except Dwarves and Nekoma myself.
About the Tactics, I'd prefer on of those 2:
Because of the "no more than 1 similiar attribute between 2 races" thing. Off course if we change Alignment\Philosophies and change the Tactics accordingly, that's why I asked for suggestions.
EDIT: it's been a week and still no comment....
Gnoll_Mage, maybe you should ask a mod to move this to Other Games? That's where it really belongs and maybe you'll get fresh ideas there.
Just a thought....

When I started it I didn't really know where to put it. I decided that the creativity of the AoW would provide the best home, but perhaps it would be better to move it - I'll consider.
