New one or renegade? To me it looks like renegade...
Renegades are cool, but another pair of upgrades is always welcome...

In addition there's even a skill called fallen knight which aids the haven hero in casting dark magic, why shouldn't they have renegade creatures in their army? I don't think, "it doesn't make sense story wise" is a good argument since the gameplay already contradicts the story.
I would like to see additional heroes that fit the creatures better, that would be nice and would do a little bit to make people feel better.
Again, I hope they do a good job with making the alternates attractive but not more powerful than the regulars.

Ehm, there's a reason to why the skill reduces the morale by -3

Just -1 which is reasonable.

Hmm, sorry. I confused it with something else.
Still, the morale penalty has its reason

Sure, so there could be a morale penalty for mixing the upgrade types, though there probably won't be...to continue the line of reasoning with those ideas you shouldn't be able to have arch devils and arch angels in your army...and yet the morale penalty is the same.
I'm just saying that story is not the strongest element in heroes and I don't think the gameplay decision should be based solely on story.

The problem is not the Dark Magic. Haven does indeed have Light and Dark Magic as their two primary schools, and are this not entirely as goodie-like as they sometimes appear. The problem with the Renegades is that they come into the story as demon-touched Haven units, that follow the Sovereign, and that is in direct contradiction to the 'normal' Haven units.

Yes,but they could make same looking units and just give them different descriptions ... like penitent angel or smth ...
They already gained new equipment and training and units are quite useful so if you were Isabel what would you do ? The most illogical thing possible - save them. Why? 'cause Renegades are actually Isabels personal army(not Biaras ...) and after seeing how devoted their are to her image she would spare them and allow to continue to serve her...

The story is one of the weakest points of HoMM V, and it would be at least strange for them to mess up the balance to make it better.
I'd rather have an all-balanced-all-around HoMM game with a stupid story than the opposite of that.
I'm actually pretty positive the Haven upgrades would be less powerful might-wise, but most of them would gain better specials or spells - the way it is now the faction seems way too Might-oriented, but on the other hand that's the way it's been since I can remember.

This is based on the storyline...
The renegades are fanatics who are trained to fight evil and all infidels. They have been fooled by Biara who pretends to be Isabel and with the new archbishop's help proclaims herself a saint. The renegades fight against humans and dwarves because they are under the impression of being on the right side exterping evil(much like the catholic church in middle ages -inquisition). I believe that they agreed to fight fire with fire, that's why they look more evil than the classics but in essence they were trained to fight evil not good.

why because he is red and the fire on his sword is orange instead of blue? he has fallen from grace not because he is evil but because of the way he decided to fight against evil(fight fire with fire just like in my other post about all the renegades)

And that makes it evil..
I don't want to cover that (again), reminds me of another thread... for those that don't even know what I'm talking about, don't even ask!

Look, they received demon blessing from Biara. You saw how she affected Laszlo but also the fact that they followed her against the good guys.
Give me a break, they fight for evil.
