If you rightclick your Heroes3.exe file, and chose "properties", a small window will show up. In this window, you have 4 tabs on top. The second tab is named "Version". If you click there, you can see on the top: FILE: 4.0.0.0 (for example, if it is H3 Complete).

Following post from PrinceJasca moved from H3 tactic thread here where it belongs:
Quote: Need help...Unleashing the Bloodthirsty.
I can't kill Mridureciak (first Conflux hero).
1831 Phoenixes, 2938 Magic, 3730 Magma, 4615 Energy, 5405 Ice, 6090 Storm. And, quite important, two enchanters.
Mine: 3200 elves (useless), 318 Titans, 954 Chaos Hydras, 2000 Mighty Gorgons, 2100 Wyvern Monarch. I also use Arch Mage and few Phoenixes. And I may use Nagas or Genies, or Unicorns, if necessary.
Primary skill: 90-75-80-69 vs 76-76-82-84.
I can't make Mridureciak attack me (I want to stay in castle defending), so I must attack him, without castle. And I always lose.
It sucks...

Hi,
so I just killed Mr Buttkick in El Regueldo, I didn't know about the 16 month time limit till I was about 10 months in and I just wanted to play it out, he came through the portal and attacked me and cause the AI is so smart I won, got the artifact, next turn I entered the city and won. Doesn't seem the proper way to end it.
Just wondering if that's happened to anyone else.

Can you check the version (date) of your map?
I wonder how you could get the red orb from a hero....

Unleashing the Bloodthirsty v2.h3m from 3/07/2001.
I assume it was the way to guarantee the 16 month time limit, my hero was elsewhere when it first ticked over, he came through the portal straight into the undefended town and won cause he had the artifact, so I reloaded and made sure I was at home when he came.

My version is from 07/02/2002, and is called "Unleashing the Bloodthirsty SOD".
So you probably have the original AB version.

I am currently just before Ugly Ratface battle and entering the inferno land (killed fortress, tower, gained stronghold desert castles, got read tent in maze, killed rampart). The quest guard prior to this battle asks me for the Mercury Vial artifact which opens the teal Necro lake bridge towards my Stronghold castles. Do I let the Necro out? How do I conquer Teal?
My biggest frustration so far is inability to gain access to the south seas to defeat the Archangels for Teal castle quest and gain Lion shield near Sentinel. At what point will I get access to the southern seas?

To conquer Teal, you have to use summon boat spell..
Access to southern seas you get after conquering the whole Inferno aera you just entered. It leads to a subterranean gate near your starting town. There you will find a boat (left by the necro guy who came to your home town in week 3!), and there is also one boat hidden there too....
But beware...the fight against "Angel Delight" is a tough one....
If you look around quite well after that fight, you may find something which helps ya to beat Teal....

I'll try to solve this mysterious 'something' after conquering inferno and defeating 'Angel Delight'

Oh, boy.. This map was the most frustrating I've ever played. Great design, story, gameplay but simply too difficult, in fact, insanely tough.
I have to warn you, friend; after you dispatch that Cleric on the island, you're in for a nasty surprise in a Conflux area. I couldnt take that last Conflux town, while some crazy overpowered Warlocks were invading my territory through a series of omnipresent portals. I simply gave up there because there was no way I could deal with all of these enemies without loosing my precious Behemoths. I mean, if I could upgrade them, I would have had a chance, but otherwise...
I have to tell you, I was seriously upset because up until that point I thought I was doing pretty well. I hope you'll have better luck, and trust me, you'll need it.
Best

Try again and be a bit faster. You should have conquered Conflux area before Orange comes into your fortress area.
To beat those overwhelming armies, use SACRIFICE spell!!! Just sacrifice your thousands of gnolls, goblins or centaurs to bring back a hugh stack of behemots.
You also could place your wyvern monarchs (just a few) near your Behemot stack and cast berzerk on your OWN troops! If you are lucky, the monarchs poison the behemots and so they have reduced hit points. The resurrection is much easier then...
Clone your Archangels and kill them with firewall again after they have casted resurrection. This is (depends on spellpower and Archangel stack) most of the times the cheaper way to bring back your army...

I never used the sacrifice spell and never will (until it's the only way of course ) but a big tip is to avoid too huge armies for your main hero. You can finish the map without losing a single creature (or close to it if I remember well).
Most of the time you need only half the army (critical troops) you are carrying with main hero . So less loses and less resurrections. You can also have a number of troops by stack that can be resurrected without losing spell points. based on your spell power (or archangel stack) you can estimate the hit points you will resurrect each cast. So divide the hit points by the basic hp of each creature taking part in the fight. Example you can resurrect 5000 hp, then take dragonflies by multiples of 250 (if no hp artifacts present of course).

The sacrifice spell works only for the AI most of time. For human I don't see its purpose as AI will (almost) always hit first your fodder stack, means your bunch of gnolls/imps or whatever. So your sacrifice potential drops drastically in the first turn and eventually is annihilated on second, unless you use complex tricks to preserve it but at a cost.

This is not how it is meant to be. In hugh battles, you will lose all your fodder of course. But at the point you have blinded the last units of the AI, you start to resurrect your fodder! And when they are full back on track, you sacrifice them to bring back your level 7 troops.
If I recall correct, this was "necessary" with 2 fights. the fight vs the first Castle town (Angel Delight) and the fight vs Dragonmaster.

I doubt that, because you get the resurrection spell in the last tower town in snow area. And until that point, you alraedy have some bigger fights. Be it vs those fortress guys, or against this tough Tower hero with his tons of Titans and Naga queens.
