What's that got to do with Heroes in particular? Every PC game needs patches. The better ones only need some tweaking, some don't even run properly without the first patch.
And there are Blizzard games, who work pretty fine in the first place but get patches by the dozen until the balance is near perfect.

When you say nightmares? A friend had a funny dream about H3 necropolis He struck down a ghost dragon with his sword and then an army of zombies were cheering for him LOL! I have occasionally seen a battle, the only serious dream was when I was attacked by an H3 vampire that made my friends disappear and then I was off running without even looking back
