Also wrong.
People are not gay by birth.
Some people do not even know who they really are until they are grown up.
True SOME people are born to like the same sex more.
Some actually come out of prison liking other men.
It depends PERIOD. Not just by birth.

Well, neither of you are quite correct on your facts.
First off, homosexuality is not genetically determined, that's proven for fact (for instance: Identical Twins share the same genes, and still there are numerous examples of one turning gay and the other straight).
Secondly, it's not something you choose either. Just like a typical straight guy could not just choose to turn gay, would he want it, a gay guy cannot choose to turn straight. Of course, one can always live in a relationship (and have sex with) someone of the other gender than what one is sexually attracted to, but that does not change your sexuality.
True, some people are confused about their sexuality. Some people simply are bisexual, and go both ways, so to speak. Another typical reason for confusin is lack of knowledge - thus, people who have never heard about homosexuality will tend to forge a heterosexual relationship even if they are not sexually attracted to the other gender. You can love, and be in love with a person you are not sexually attracted to.
The most convincing explanation I have seen to the cause of Homosexuality would be this news spot. I'm not sure it has not been disputed since, but there are some interesting clips about how hormons affect male rats during pregnancy to apparantly become homosexual. There's also an absolutely adorable little boy who's convinced he should be a female.
To return to the original question: Why people hate being called gay? As I see it, people hate it because a) there's a large degree of homophobia still present, and b) because "gay" is being used as a negative word. Harmless some might say, but I think the implications of this goes deeper than many people realize. First of all, using "gay" as a common swearword, one constantly supports the homophobic attitude that we many places pride ourselves with being something that belongs to the old days. And for all those who are actually gay, having their surroundings using the word in that way is not funny - even if you get used to it, or just ignore it, it still stings a bit, just like the casual racism some people practice can be very offensive to people of other ethnicity.
Sometimes, perhaps we should ask ourselves if we would use the word in the same way if we learned that someone dear and close to us was actually gay. If the answer to that was no, maybe we should change our behavior.

That might have something to do with the observation that if there are many boys in the family, the younger ones are more likely to be gay than the older ones.

Quote: Basically Alcibiades has the point here. It is a proven fact that homosexuality isn't genetically determined, but in the end, it's not something you choose either. It does, in my opinion, depend on several environmental factors.
Alci is right. But lets get back to what you wanted to say then. Hmm lets take this one (my favourite) : "Bombing children with parades and other homosexual activities makes a straight child which still isn't aware of any sexual needs a potential homosexual" It is unclear to me what is it that you want to point out. I know that
a) you think that seeing a gay parade makes "a straight child a potential homosexual"
b) you don't approve of that
Conclusion... well with the limited information I have I assume that you want to end the gay parades. If I have misunderstood, please correct me and elaborate more of what you actually want that is done.
If the answer to this is yes, that they should ban the gay parades.. Then what next.. Should the gays be taken from TV shows as well? The poor straight children are bombarded again... and by their third parent the TV; how obscene is that!
Quote:
I didn't mean all of those people of course (geez, do I always have to point that out?).
So...what you were saying that there are some individuals that claim it is better to be gay than a straight? So what point are you trying to get across with that?
Quote:
But the "THANK GOD WE'RE GAY" signs do say a lot.
You don't find any humor in that??? No sarcasm against the church and its opinions about gays??? Do you think that using humor as a means to promote gay rights should be denied from the gay community?

They are gay to begin with, they feared people like you (probably) and that's why they married (with a woman/man) and spoiled the lives of themselves and that of their wives. They we're gay before they married (in fear for their religion, familie or state)
I dont hate gays. Ive chatted with a nice person who said he was gay once. Im simply stating why i think people hate being called gay. But supposing you had the most foul unpleasent women as a wife and you saw a gay parade and had a male neighbour as a friend that you know is gay and you share some common hobbies etc.
Quote: It's not against our nature because it's happening in masses, its not just ONE case, there are millions of gays on this planet so it can't be something unnatural, not everything is about breeding you know, do you think about making babies all day? NO.
Many kinds of animals, ducks, flamingoes, lions, cheetahs and sheep can be gay aswel.
I think its against most peoples nature because it would be against evoloution or our survival as a specieis or how god made us etc (pick your theory ) for the reason i mentioned before that it would not be good for us as a species to be gay. Never actually heard of an animal being gay though.
Quote: People who think that gays are stupid are stupid themselves, most intelligent people are gay, atleast most artists were/are.
That doesnt make any sense. Some gays are stupid some arent. Look at those gays in those pictures on the first page and tell me again that you think all gays are intellegent. Im sure some are . but im also sure some arent. Im sure a generalization may make you stupid. But then its probably a generalization to say theyre all intellegent.
Ive heard of leanordo being gay though . But didnt van gough cut off his ear for his girlfriend (or some famous artist)

We're saying many gay people are smart, not many smart people are gay. Also, yes, Van Gough cut off his ear because this woman (Fanny Le Fan, Nuvion, France) would not marry him, even though he said that if she did not he would cut off peices of his body and send them to her. She broke it off, he went away, and sent her an ear.
Moving on, yes, there are dumb gay people, most of them at my school. However, I think in order to be able to admit to oneself that one is a little bit this way and that, one would have to open one's mind, and an open mind can think outside the box. True, some homosexuals are not the brightest cookies in the fishbowl, but when you run the rainbow up the mast you'll find you're saluting a very different kettle of fish.

I agree . But its just not that being automatically gay makes you smart. Just like being a jew doesnt automatically make you smart or some other such idea. Sure theres a lot of intellegent gays out there im sure.

Isn't that how the world works?
@Minnie (I'll just call you Minnie, it's short from Minion, sounds better plus I like to give people nicks)
Quote: But lets get back to what you wanted to say then.
Let's.
For the sake of argument.
Quote: It is unclear to me what is it that you want to point out. I know that
a) you think that seeing a gay parade makes "a straight child a potential homosexual"
b) you don't approve of that
a) That is my opinion, yes. Becoming a homosexual depends on several factors in life. Very few people are born gay, they either turn out or become gay later in life. But people are constantly trying to influence that with one way or another. Which is what I think is unfair.
b)Yes. Everyone should be what they're supposed to be. I'm against bombing children with any sexuality at their early age really, straight or gay. But while straight sexuality is hidden from children ("R" ratings, PG ratings etc), gay people go through the streets blatantly showing their sexual desires, bodies etcetera. People think that showing nude females to the youth is wrong, yet gay people are allowed to expose themselves all they want and however they want.
Quote: Conclusion... well with the limited information I have I assume that you want to end the gay parades. If I have misunderstood, please correct me and elaborate more of what you actually want that is done.
Yes. If not end, than drastically change. Or at least allow Straight Parades too
Quote: If the answer to this is yes, that they should ban the gay parades.. Then what next.. Should the gays be taken from TV shows as well? The poor straight children are bombarded again... and by their third parent the TV; how obscene is that!
Gay people in (most) TV shows aren't dressed like BDSM cops with naked behinds, or like transvestites. Gay people who speak on TV fight for their rights in the way that I support. The verbal way.
Getting nude in public is more a lack of answer to anti-gay speeches than actually having one. It's like saying "Oh yeah? Well I can start dancing around in thongs and everyone will clap and cheer. And you'd just get arrested."
Quote: So...what you were saying that there are some individuals that claim it is better to be gay than a straight? So what point are you trying to get across with that?
My point is that those individuals lead the parades, or form the main part of them. Which makes entire parades leave that same impression.
Quote: You don't find any humor in that??? No sarcasm against the church and its opinions about gays??? Do you think that using humor as a means to promote gay rights should be denied from the gay community?
Humor? No my friend, Monty Python's Flying Circus is humor. The "THANK GOD WE'RE GAY" sign is, if meant to be humorous, just a poor, poor attempt. Besides, make up your mind between fighting for your rights (even though homosexuals already GOT THEM YEARS AGO in the places they make parades in) and sarcastically spitting on whoever thinks different (like the Church). Not that I support the Church, I just don't find open cynicism a valiant part of a campaign for 'liberty'.

2) And I'd like to ask you, do you think you could suddenly turn gay, should you happen to watch too many gay parades?
1)For the most part no, But supposing you have a male neighbour you like and are surrounded by unpleasent women its probably just common sense that someone might reconsider.
2)Nope. But if something more appealing were made ...

@ Paraform = this is one of the dumbest things i have ever read in my entire life. MOST? that is completely inaccurate. Most "intelligent" people are not gay, but open minded individuals. They do not, for the most part, oppose gays, but a majority are definitely not gay. As for artists, theater workers, etc. Most have a passion for what they do, and may have introverted personalities, but this also doesn't make them gay.
Quote: BTW. Most gay men find out around their 15 t/m 25 life year that they are gay or attracted to another male.
That is about the age that you learn allot of things, that's why I think a gay is born gay.
It's much like the x-men mutants,(while fiction) it is inside them but it comes out when around 15, some people are 12 and others are much older, but I guess such people lived their lives a lie and we're gay to begin with as you can't become a gay in later life, you can like sex with other boys/men but still be a heterosexual, such people are called bi-sexuals.
and gays are not mutants...

2) And I'd like to ask you, do you think you could suddenly turn gay, should you happen to watch too many gay parades?
Ok...
1) Well as far as I know, a lot of people who turn out gay at a later point in life have had relationships and even children with persons of different sex. Freddie Mercury had a long-term relationship with a girlfriend, for example. Before he declared himself as gay.
I mean, if somebody is gay from birth, he wouldn't have female companions all along and then just suddenly change to being gay, right? I don't think a person could spend the early ages of his life dating females and having relations (sometimes even long-term ones) with them (despite his gay sexual preferences) and then suddenly turn completely gay. Doesn't make sense, or at least I don't get it.
2) Not suddenly and at this period of life. But if I were induced with them earlier, since birth and all, and if my environment fully supported it and even encouraged it to certain extent, I believe there would be a larger chance of me turning gay, yes.
I might be wrong of course.

Quote: Than you are not a true heterosexual to begin with, a true heterosexual will pick the girl even if she's BUTT ugly and if the male is David Beckham.
So a true heterosexual male should pick a fat, ugly, non attractive woman over David Beckham or Brad Pitt, if you pick the males you are A) Out on their money, B) Not a true heterosexual. Of course a wise heterosexual male would pick none.
Not always. I watched this video in class about how some of the servants in this French Castle, Aquitaine, found women too frivolous, so they engaged in gay behavior, though most of them were straight, they just didn't like the girls there.

all right you keep saying that. Please prove to me there is a single animal that commonly engaged in intercourse with the same sex as itself. Show me a link to national geograpghic or something.(barring those insects that are the same gender either way )
Also, It wasnt a question of ugliness. If you live with unpleasent women(their nature being unpleasent) then you shall think its the norm.

All i say Is that Gayness is a hormonal error.
Hormones are what causes attraction.
If hormones are out of whack=gay
Also There are the few who mistook a guy for a gal.
also men hate to be called gay because it causes confusion and doubt it makes one feel nervous.

Ok. about gay animals ill take your word for it.
As for life. Well id agree its wierd and strange sometimes. But you have to admit that no diety would create us like that if he wanted us to live for any length of time But then you have a valid point . Maybe god made a mistake and he didnt mean for us to live this long!
Evoloution-wise i dont think it would make much sense.
