I'm afraid scientists are impractically optimistic in finding out similar planets or lifeforms in their lifetimes.  I believe optimism should be limited to the possibility of life on other regions of the universe, but, on how long will we find out..?  We don't know.  Or, are we sure life is within a few million light-years from us?  Hard to tell.
