Yes, you are right, and I'm terribly sorry again. However I did manage to make about half of the analysis, it's pretty tough to do it among my studies at university.

As an exchange, I checked your quiz and since you were the only competitor, I won't bother giving the solution to every puzzles, just those you got wrong.

You scored 26 out of possible 34 which is a score of a very good all-round player with very little weaknesses and a sharp eye for a chessboard. Your least strong area of play is clearly the positional/strategical play.

Openings: You only got the fourth one wrong. Your move Qg4 isn't very srtong because it doesn't pose black any problems. If you wanted to force the response ...g6, that's OK but black has tremendous play on the queenside so an attack on the dark squares for white is a long and difficult way off. You still scored 1 out of 2 for this one, but I couldn't give you maximum for the violation of an opening principle: don't bring the queen out too early! The preferred move here is a3, forcing the black bishop into a decision. If he takes the knight, bxc3 solves every central problems for white because it arrives just in time to meet ...cxd4. If the bishop retreats then c5 hangs so dxc5 annihilates the pressure even though it might as well leave white with tripled pawns if the bishop captures on c3, but in that case the bishop loses a tempo on retreating first and only then capturing.

No problems at all in the tactics section, you got all of them right.

In section 3 unfortunately, you only got the first one correct. You oversaw that at puzzles 2 and 4 it was black to move. Though it was written on top of the boards, I feel guilty too because all four was posted with white at the bottom. That was some bad editing from me.

Number two: You should immediately see that white has just captured on c6. Nothing else makes sense because on the diagram black is down a piece, and should decide how to take back. (By the way, Bxe8 for white would indeed be the best, but why would anyone make such a puzzle in the positional play section?) The correct way to take back was bxc6 because it eliminates the hole on d5, strenghtening the centre and disallowing the strong continuation of Nd5 for white.

Number three: Did you not notice the hanging knight on g5 or decided to sacrifice it? I think that white won't be able to carry out a successful attack for as long as the c6 knight is there. There are many defenders too, and white's pieces are not within close-enough-proximity to the black king especially if you sacrifice on g5. I think hxg5 is perfectly safe for black. The correct way to solve this puzzle was to decide where to retreat that knight. Since the pawn is on f4, it shows that white has the intention of playing f5, cramping the bishop. So why trade an excellent piece for one that is going to bite in a rock? The best move is the simple Nc3, staying in attacking distance and preparing f5 which comes with a good space advantage for white.

Fourth one: Again, black to move. Still, if it was white to move, c4 would indeed be a very good idea. Since there's nothing dangerous on the board (unlike the previous ones when pieces were hanging), I think you deserve a point out of 2 for c4

Section four: Your endgame is pretty strong as well, you only got the second one wrong but that was indeed a difficult one to spot. You missed a very nice move for white which ends the game almost instantly. Your move Rh7 is still playable, but only because it doesn't ruin the original idea, which you didn't post to me so I can't give you a single point for this unfortunately The correct way to finish things up quickly is to play e5!! Surprising enough, because black can take with check. However it's still very good for white because after Kc6, what does black do? He's threatened to be mated and the rook is also too close to give any checks. The pawn can be escorted very nicely by white to make a new queen. Other first moves also lose, but I'll leave this to you to analyse because there are quite a few variations which black may choose, but all of them loses.

So, 26/34. Since there was one fairly difficult puzzle in every section, and regarding the overlooks of the sides to move at the positional play section, I'd say that you are a strong tournament player. Congratulations!

I bet you mean Ne4(or Nf3),because there is already Knight on c3 square.
Anyway,I really missed the black to move sentences,my fault.
For the next time will pay more attention.
What is next in the courses?

Here we go, white to move and mate in 3.

I'd forgotten about this one. Still couldn't solve it, finally gave up and had the machine do it (which saw it immediately). Definitely not a move I'd have considered since black has so many moves afterwards.
I guess what you wanted was higher activity in the thread where we'd go "it must be a checking move" and after having looked over all checking moves again and again, we'd go on and eventually find it and be amazed and brought together and the thread would prosper.

What an awesome move!! And a tough one! I had to use a board to be sure to explore all the lines.

Ke2!! Incredible to allow the black to promote pawn on check! And that in the promotion, Ke3 ensures mates. Be it with queen, bishop or knight promotion. Infuriating at first, trying to find direct lines without the Ke2 key (preventing the black king to flee).

If he goes Q promotion:

1 .Ke2 ...Q+
2 .Ke3
(a) ...Qg1+ 3 .Rf2 mate
(b) ...Qe1 3 .fe2 mate
(c) ...Bf4 3 .Rf4 mate
(d) ...Re2 3 .fe2 mate

If he goes N promotion to avoid Ke3:

1 .Ke2 ...N+
2 .Rf2+ ...Kxe4
3 .Bd3 mate

If he goes B promotion:

1 .Ke2 ...B+
2. Ke3 ...whatever the black play next is mate

If he doesn't promote:

1 .Ke2 ...Nc1+
2 .Ke3 and it's over, with the same discovery of Rf file, or with d4.

I guess you're better player than me then.
