That'd be the third game
And yeah, it's awesome. Too bad they didn't make Vergil's storymode any different from Dante's... they pretty much just removed the cutscenes.

I mentioned this in Bixie's manga thread too but hey, not all DMC fans are interested in manga so whatever.
Anyway, for those who don't know there's actually a Devil May Cry anime that is surpringly good imo, and the english version even has DMC 4's voiceactor for Dante. The soundtrack is pretty damn good too.
If you choose to watch it don't judge it by the first episode, it sucks in comparison to the following episodes.

wow, it's been a long time since I bought DMC and haven't beaten it yet (was busy making maps in FC2)
well, I could practice enough in easy mode, so I started the normal mode again, and it seems I am quite decent now, I reached like the 17th or 18th chapter without too big problems (except the 1st encounter with frosts (damn those things are strong) and the 3rd encounter with nelo angelo. he was kicking my ass so bad that I relied on cheap ways to beat him...)
I mainly use the grenade launcher and alastor. I usually stun enemies with a grenade and then use the stinger attack.
bought devil may cry 3, it's more fun than the 1st one. in another hand, the atmosphere and the design of some monsters is less good overall (despite very good graphics)
the system of style was kinda confusing at first.
overall I prefer trickster for the dash / double dash
then gunslinger for the ability to shoot in 2 directions (weirdly, the pistols seem stronger that way)
royal guard was useful against some boss, but I prefer dodging with double jump + dash
I don't like swordmaster so far, apart from aerial rave, the new moves don't seem very useful...
oh, and the enigms are pathetic. I solved some of them without knowing what to do

Dante's last Swordmaster attack in DMC3 is awesome, it's pretty much the same move as in DMC4 except that Dante makes a POLEDANCE OF DEATH at the end
The third game is the best imo, havent played the first one yet though.
Oh and did you get the special edition? It's awesome to play as Vergil in Bloody Palace mode, summoned swords ftw.

yeah, I bought the special edition (it was 10€. the normal game was 8€, so I suppose it should at least be worth 2 more € )
I doubt I will manage to up a style to the level 3 before the end of the game. I'm at mission 9 I think, I have 31500 pts in trickster, 27000 in gunslinger, 1500 in swordmaster and 14000 in royal guard I think. (this one seems easy to up, I only used it twice. to beat cerberus and to beat igna and rudra or something like that. in another hand, trickster take a long time to up despite using dash a hell of a lot in fights (I hit and run, stinger level 2, then I evade with dash) well, not always, but I like this strategy.
I found a cool trick with the rifle (spiral?) when you press alternatively the 2 fire buttons it shoots faster
that being said, ebony and ivory is my favourite firearms so far as it is the easiest to use, and apparently way more powerful than on DMC1 (in DMC1, I find them mainly useful against shadow, as your sword does nothing on it)
something I don't get is the normal shot and the stylish shot with artemis do the same thing.
the shotguns seems less good than in dmc1, at least you could use it to make puppets fly and stun some opponents. in DMC3, even on weak opponents it seems to not work all the time.
I don't understand what the devil mode does in dmc3. in dmc1 it makes you faster, stronger and regenerate life. also you can gain the ability to fly and summon lightning or to fire meteors for examples
I've just tried vergil, he has different moves, it's cool. he might be harder than dante since it seems he only has one style, so not very versatile.
btw, why is cerberus harder to beat than many of the boss after it?

I might have just gotten all the weapons and 5 of 6 technics.
So far my favorite combo might be trickster + rebellion + ebony and evory + spiral.
spiral is quite good if you can keep some distance with the enemies, ebony and ivory offers you the most mobility of any guns, so you can dodge and blast the enemies at the same time, even if it doesn't deal much damage.
I use hit and run strategy a lot. stinger level 2 on the enemies then double dash to escape before they retaliate.
I haven't played much with the others firearms, but I tried the others melee weapons a bit.
I think beowulf is my 2nd favorite, it deals massive damage, but it's slower than rebellion and you need to be close to the enemy. I like that you can fire meteor with the 1st level of swordmaster.
Agni and rudra maybe my 3rd fav. it's a bit like rebellion it seems, except maybe better for large groups of enemies?
I haven't tried cerberus much and I don't really get how to fight efficiently with nevan...

i have DMC3 and i am displeased but to be honest I didnt play very long at all..
Its the camera angle system I dont like and it seems its very bad in 3 so far
i dont have much desire to go in further but maybe I will play again someday
I loved the first one, I was able to over look camera angle situation but so far it seems worse in 3

well yeah, sometimes I get my ass kicked because I can't see the enemies (most of them are easy to beat, but against that reaper guy it's very annoying)
I like that there is a lots of weapons and moves

* It makes you much faster
* It allows you to regenerate health
* Being hit doesn't result in losing your Style points (though some more powerful moves can still knock you down)
* Different weapons give different bonuses to stats while in DT (For example, while wielding Nevan in DT you achieve the highest possible health regeneration)
I've started playing DMC3 again and to me it is without doubt the best game in the series. I love how you can only choose two Devil Arms and guns since it becomes so much easier to switch weapons while doing combos.
The enemies are perfect and there are no enemies that are just annoying like in DMC4 (infected Assaults... ARGH!)
The soundtrack is awesome, Devils Never Cry remains the best song in DMC history imo.

actually I began using the devil mode very recently (starting with the 2nd fight against vergil. I indeed noticed it made me faster and regenerate. actually vergil gave me the idea when he started using his own devil mode.
and I was wondering why the boss were so hard
come on, you hit the snow 10 times, he loses 5% of his health, he hits you once, you lose 20%

I suppose some of you've seen this travesty? It's a new low to see that even very fresh IPs from as late as 2001 are being subject to this reboot rubbish. If developers can't so much as get a grip on a continuity as superficial as Devil May Cry's, there is no hope for VG storytelling anymore.

The ****...
So it's actually another universe completely? Damnit. I could see some potential in the main character perhaps being brainwashed into believing he is the real Dante but... meh.
Calling this kiddo Dante is a fricking heresy towards the original character. Capcom must be on serious drugs to drop such a popular character.
I wanted to find out about Nero's past damnit! I wanted Vergil to be resurrected through Nero's arm and everything!

well, the action sequences are cool but.. erm.. is that a parallel universe or something?
If they call him Dante then why isn't he THE Dante?? I don't get good vibes from it

I can't find the official statement anywhere but from what I've gathered from forums the state of the "same universe?" question is this:
1. Ninja Theory (the developers) says that the game is in the same universe as the old DMCs, it will honour the previous game's gameplay while introducing bla bla bla we will westernize DMC (the ****? Westernize?)
2. *trailer is released*
Result: MASSIVE FANRAGE (Where's my ****ing Dante you worthless Capcom ****ups imma shove my @#&# up your £@#%$!! etc etc)
3. Capcom makes a statement that the game isn't part of the same universe and will not affect the storyline of the previous games.
Capcom got afraid of the fanrage
I agree with a guy whose post I read on a forum:
THIS HAS BETTER BE LIKE :
- my name is Dante.
- hey thats my name too. Trish who the hell is this punk kid that looks as if he’s from a twilight movie.

i surely hope this isn't going to affect the original DMC. i just cant help but agree with the hitler rant it has everything i have against this installment. my rage barely cooled off from yesterday when i watched the trailer for the first time. btw looking at this guy makes me wonder if they should call it Devil May be Gay instead of Devil May Cry.
