I thought Malwarebytes was just for preventing Malware and removing it.
I use Norton.
AVG is a popular freeware antivirus program.

Here's the link.

There's a free version that doesn't have the permanent protection mode, so the free veersion is basically an anti-virus and malware tool that works liek a charm, if you really need it.
The full version puts up permanent protection.

I've heard good things about Microsoft Security Essentials which is also free. I've only used it infrequently but I didn't have problems.

So I got both AVG and ZoneAlarm.
It sortof makes me feel like a ruthless overlord whose vassals toil tirelessly to prove their worth, constantly scheming and attacking one another in hopes of removing all competition on the path to my favour, each trying to convince me how the other is a spy...ware.
Sure it's tiresome and probably ruins the PC after a while but oh boy does it feel awesome.
You have done well, my minions. Feast now on the foolish trojan.

Most anti-viruses. It's been a long time since I used NOD32 but I remember it being the only "reasonable" (though still bloated) from the ones I tried (2005 or so). ZoneAlarm is terribly bloated.
now that you mention it, the Mac might just top it.

Lol yeah, you're right. I use Comodo nowadays. It's more bloated than Zonealarm but it does the job and that's the main thing.

I prefer sandboxes to anti-viruses. If you know what you're doing they are 300% more effective and not annoying with false positives.

This may be a dumb, overly paranoid question, but...
Is it possible that running a piece of software (i.e., a game) for which your computer is slightly underpowered (or falls in the middle of the range of system requirements) can damage your video card? E.g., by overheating?

I had a videocard that died of overheating. It kept crashing when I was playing my soccer game. Visual inspection of the card showed burn marks.

Well, I know that overheating can damage a card. I guess what I'm asking is: all other things being equal, is simply running a piece of software sufficient to overheat a card to the point where it can be damaged?
The reason is: I recently installed Dragon Age on my laptop. I was playing it for a few days and then my video card died. I just had the video card replaced today (under warranty, thankfully). The paranoid part of me is wondering whether running Dragon Age was what killed it, or if that was just a coincidence. The computer ran the game OK at medium settings.

I use speccy to check temperatures.
http://www.piriform.com/speccy
If you can alt-tab out of the game you could check the temperature while playing. It should be easy to find a list of acceptable temps for your card. That's the best I can do.

that speccy looks alright PhoenixReborn & comes from same company as CCleaner & if it can see temp of graphics card, then I'd be in favour of checking out my laptops when I run H5 replays...btw my laptop just shut itself down last week during a period of H5 replay watching which I knew was due to temperature of graphics...but I shall wait for official release of speccy rather than a beta
