Where is the world going?

A man kills himself and the spectators laugh.
A man runs off with a whole bunch of people's money.
Unemployment is climbing.
Consumerism is rampant.

Where is the world going?
Today, the crisis of capitalism and post-Enlightenment morality is come. The greed of the individual exploitative capitalists and the immorality of the hedonists has finally created such contradictions that they cannot longer be beared. The Arab-Israeli Conflict, the Financial Crisis, and everyday moral decay are the facets of the same phenomenon.

And who arises to counter these phenomena? Who takes the lead into a new world? No one. There is only vague complaining from the Vatican and the left wing of the parliaments of Europe. Needless to say that the Vatican has long been an exploitative organization, and that the world Left has either turned to bourgeois socialism or the environmentalism of obvlivion.

The Guilty Parties:
Cyberhedonists
Proponents of Irresponisible Materlialism
Exploitative Capitalists
Hippies

What is to be done?

Well, we all know that there's to factors that is leading the world the wrong way; greed/selfishness and stupidity. People are to greedy or selfish to care as long as they get their piece o' cake, and they're too stupid to realize that the cake is a lie. (AHA! I mocked humanity, implied my philosphical and political values and then made a nerdy joke! Epic win!)

I think the world is going more to a turning point than to an end. Yes, many bad things are happening, and humen really are a chaotic race, although we always somehow always manage to survive. There are wars and economical crisises, but there have also been wars and crisises, and we're still here, so I think well survive this (although your life is going to change if you know someone that get killed in the war). What I'm more afraid of is the global warming and the end of petroleum, but I don't know if this is the place to discuss that...
I'm not saying that nothing should be done in this world, you can always better the conditions.

Hippies have benefited humanity infinitely more than Marx and the entire communist movement ever could.

However, they pretty much died out some two decades ago so I really fail to see how you can blame them for any of the shyte that's happening right now.
Then again, communists, just like capitalists, always did need scapegoats to cover up their own fails.

The world is okay...

People in the richer countries now can't pay for their bi-annual trip to Hawaï. That's about the effect of the crisis for the common man

Now, seriously, there's little to worry about, now. This is almost one of the most peaceful and enlightened (at least in the West, not Sure about East and South, though, the East starts to have companies who are  becoming major economic contendors) times the world has ever known.

There's global warming... I suppose... But all you can expect is a horrible future for your kids and an increase in tax on gas

There are no wars and there is little poverty (again, in the West). So, I'd appreciate some concrete examples

To hell. But wait, we are already there, and for a long time as well.
One of the really interesting quotes the Bible has to offer, is this here (American Standard version):

Mat 4:8-9 "Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me."

It has been rightly asked the question if the devil could offer Jesus the world, if he woouldn't "own" it. It become even clearer, when reading that same part with Mark:

Mk 4:5-7 "And he led him up, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, To thee will I give all this authority, and the glory of them: for it hath been delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will give it. If thou therefore wilt worship before me, it shall all be thine."

Now, empirically spoken, looking at the world's history, you just MIGHT come to the conclusion that there's some evidence supporting the idea - if you believe in god and the devil, that is.

If not, well, isn't the world then going it's usual course? 70 years ago, when asking that question, what answer would you have given then?

The world is going insane. My country doesn't have enough money to pay pensions, conpensations for the unemployed, but get this: they find a quarter million LTL to plant OAKS in Afghanistan, where oaks don't grow. They have cash to build some 'historical' palace which completely ruins a unique wiew of Vilnius' cathedral square. They spent half a million on a container restroom in Kaunas. They have cash to pay some jewish retards while they search for some old graveyard of theirs, igoring the fact that the graveyard was moved to another location.
IF THIS CONTINUES, I'LL BLOCK ALL THE ROADS, START A RIOT AND BLOW UP THE PARLAMENT HOUSE!
To Lithuania's goverment, we simple citizens are dogs. I respect latvians. At least they stood up and fought.

Tip: dont steal. Goverment doesn't like competition

It should be noted that, if Nazis had "predicted" the same stuff with the 'END', they would have been right. It did end for them. So don't take it just as easily as that

@Deadman: the problem itself is the attitude we have. You see, your view eventually leads to capitalism or is just another form of small-scale capitalism on the whole (for a bigger group that is than an individual or a few individuals). You say we should just treat everything else as 'objects' (except humans) or as 'property'. This, in effect, is like having a capitalism system, where the profits are gained by many individuals -- this happens in real capitalism too, in the case of shared profits or cofounders or whatever, so it isn't excluded. Still capitalism in effect, because it's still the "claiming" of "property" thing in action. Period.

My view of socialism isn't just about changing the economy but the whole perspective on 'consuming' and 'property' (and the abused concept of 'claiming' it).

Yes this is a bit degenerated. Because there wasn't any sign of a joke. And pulling jokes like this are just as degenerating, especially if you later tell them "you losers!" or some **** like that.

I agree with you entirely.

DarkShadow:
Fascism is nothing more than the last stand of monopolistic capitalism against the interests of the working class. Why we would retry that I have no idea. I think six million Jews would object to that.

And there will be no crises under socialism, because there will not be economic fluctuations caused by speculative capitalism.

Baklava:
Hippies have, at best, had an indirect benefit by bringing environmental concerns further forward - but they brought them too far forward.

And Marx hasn't benefitted humanity yet. That day will inevitably come, though.

Dagoth:
Unemployment is climbing. People are losing their jobs. The rich manage to cushion themselves somehow at the cost of the working class.

And no wars? Seriously? So Iraq and Afghanistan don't exist? Or how about the Tamil Tigers, or Israel-Palestine, or western Congo?

JollyJoker:
That is an interesting quote, and while I can't call myself a Christian, I believe that it holds some value. But I think that it is somewhat dishonest to blame the current crisis of society on demonic spirits. If not exactly dishonest, it is at least somewhat of a copout.

70 years ago, humanity made a heroic stand against Fascism. And humanity won. But then the Democrats in America saved capitalism for the capitalists. In Britain, Atlee made some progress, but then reneged after he felt the capitalist influence. And the Soviet Union had another round of repressions.

Kipshasz:
That's what happens when your country goes too far into capitalism.

TheDeath:
A modified form of my view does indeed lead to capitalism, as the Soviet experience has taught us. When class struggle fails to continue through the socialist period, the bureaucrats may simply reintroduce capitalism, and that would be (and was) a major setback.

There will be no property under socialism, though. All the world in common will be owned by all of humanity.

As for cyberhedonism, it's when people are on the internet all the time (watching porn, no doubt) and not involving themselves with the real world.

All:
I'm not saying that the world is coming to an end. Far from it. I'm just wondering where it's going, and if this is the time that people like me have been waiting for.

No wars in the west I said

Anyway, Congo hardly counts... Last time I checked, it's a total anarchy in there and tribal wars, so yes, conflict... War EVERYWHERE THOUSANDS PEEPS DYING ZOMG is not true...

In the middle East there's actual war out, but Europe isn't as war-torn as it once was, neither is the whole of America, neither is Asia, neither Australia. Mein point is that conflict in general is rather rare nowadays, maybe it's just me...

@Deadman: Yes, owned by all of humanity. Capitalism does so by restricting it to just a few individuals which it calls "businessmen". How is that so marginally different in concepts? "human", "businessman", whatever... both fall into the same category: groups. Either way, both of them are just... groups, one having a bigger inclusion group than the other (communism). One may be better than the other, but in no way marginally different in concept as a whole, and no way as furthest as possible.

No crises? You also must mean no economy, cause there isn't crisis proof economy, SU proved that...China did...Give me a socialist country that hasn't had economic crises.

And don't even go to the "Commie world revolution" theory...

This thread isn't really a neutral point of view discussion about the direction the world is going. It's nothing more than rebellious revolutionaries spouting their radical views, while the people posting something sensible are ignored.

As Abby Hoffman, one of the most radical leaders of the 60s, said in his book title Revolution for the Hell of It.

Rebels are a state of mind, spending their time looking for things to rebel against, even if they have to fabricate it.
