Back in USSR your country was full of nuclear warheads, soviet oppression and the horribly lame beer (and I doubt 100% of those factories were for civilian purposes).

Quote: This thread isn't really a neutral point of view discussion about the direction the world is going. It's nothing more than rebellious revolutionaries spouting their radical views, while the people posting something sensible are ignored.
As Abby Hoffman, one of the most radical leaders of the 60s, said in his book title Revolution for the Hell of It.
Rebels are a state of mind, spending their time looking for things to rebel against, even if they have to fabricate it.
Thank you for your opinion. We have learned much out of it and further discussion would be awesome!

Well not full of nukes. There was only one base. The beer was crap indeed(as my granps describes it), but he brewed his own booze all the time(still does though, his mead rocks). There were a lot of agrocultural based factories, but who knows what they produced for real. And smuggling reigned supreme in there(you should hear my dad's stories lol) The point of my post was that most people got a job. There weren't hordes of unemployed people.

There will be no property under socialism, though. All the world in common will be owned by all of humanity.
Who cares about property anymore? It's like with the slaves in ancient times - property. But property means you have to care for it. Having free people to exploit who have to care for themselves seems better. You just lease them. As you lease other things.
Frankly, the question isn't and never was who OWNS the property. The question is who USES it.
So if you have a couple of datchas on the Black Sea Coast they can be owned by the people of course - but the question is who uses them. And that won't change.

Natural selection FTW!
Quote: A man runs off with a whole bunch of people's money.
And then the justice system catches up to him and he sits in jail. Or in high public office.
But this is no crisis of capitalism. This isn't a crisis at all. It's just a bunch of irresponsible panickers yelling that the world is coming to an end.
All:
This thread really shows what some of you think.

Shoo! What are you doing with all the medicine? Natural selection doesn't like diseases being wiped out, you know... maybe they are there for a reason?

But people can create tools, and natural selection gave us that ability. But if people purposely remove themselves from the gene pool...

I don't think you got it. We haven't been subject to natural selection since the dawn of medicine, and in some parts of the world (e.g: China) that was really a looooooong time ago.
What about brain cancer? Brain disease? Mental illnesses? Those don't count as diseases but, let's say, a handicapping disease does for you?

Who of you would agree to get another 200 dollars or 50 % increase (whichever highest) each month (and you would actually get them (it's just a theoretical question))? Please be honest.

Where is the world going?
The answer is simple: in the same direction where majority of people are going...
where the majority of people are going? they are going to nowhere
Why? Because thier action are more selfish and chaotic, and they often forget about the biger picture of cumulation of their actions.
So again where is the world going? If there is no significant group of people that would care about it, the world goes to nowhere it is decending to chaos.
From ashes few rise.

If people were really so selfish and greedy as some claim, society would have fallen apart long ago and we probably would no longer exist.
If I were completely selfish and greedy I'd be a bank robber, and so would everyone else. Of course there wouldn't be any money in the bank because the bank employees would have already run off with all the money long before I got there.
But that hasn't happened. Why? Because people are not nearly so selfish as some like to portray. You could look at it like laws are only for the minority who really are selfish. The rest of us have an inner conscience which limits our actions within some basic framework.
When I'm driving my car through an area where there might be young children, I slow down, even below the legal speed limit. If a kid ran out in front of me and I was going a reasonable speed I wouldn't get in any trouble. So I don't slow down for selfish reasons because I might get in trouble. I simply do it because I don't want to hit a kid.
Collectively this is what we call humanity. The human race has survived all kinds if crap, both natural and man-made. We've survived earthquakes, wars, genocides and plagues. And throughout history we've done it repeatedly, hundreds and hundreds of time. Yet we have always survived, we are still here.
Why?

Do you honestly believe what you are saying? I am asking you seriously.

Yeah yeah the world is a hellhole, everything is going wrong, oh the tragedy. I'll tell you what. Yes this world can be hell. Yes corruption exists. Yes morals and values are getting corrupted as well. But that said WE cannot complain.
As so many others have already expressed things have always been this way and will continue to be so, call it human nature, call it lack of proper education or whatever. What IS different is that our fathers' and grandpas' times were worse. Good old times? Hardly, not in most places if any. In current times things are a lot more comfortable, knowledge more accessible, quality of life better.
Wars? There have always been and always will be. But what about the fact that Europe has united and the so frequent conflicts that plagued it are gone?
Pollution? What about recent conventions, measures taken, sustainable development?
Economy going down the drain? It's just a periodic cycle as I'm sure you know. Amongst other things anyway.
Some people just like to see things though dark lenses don't they? Life is not fair but we are leaps and bounds ahead of where we used to be. Live by example and it can be better, whine about it and it will remain as it is.

I'm pretty sure, if I lived before World War 2, I wouldn't say my "son" (just an example) would have a better time than my 'good ole days'. That's for sure.

That depends on how far before WWII. If he was too young to fight, then I'd say he would indeed have a better life. Although that would also depend on where he lived.

Why is it always with people who never take analogies seriously? Or never take people who use analogies to strengthen predictions for example? That's exactly why Hitler was even allowed to rise in power. But yeah what did the dudes who predicted that know back then... they weren't for "real"
@mvass: yes indeed, of course if he was Stalin probably he would have had a very good life. I was speaking on average

On average, most people had a better life after the War than before (if they managed to survive the War, of course).
