I think all the card making is really fun and a set might be more fun and I'd like to help but I guess one would need a certain basic knowledge about this game in order to make cards that actually make sense. Or is it ok if they're completely unbalanced?

Well right now I just want to get a team of people set up to see about that. Personally (sorry) I vote that we attempt to make the cards balanced and consistent with the game, even though it obviously won't be done remotely as thorough as a real magic set, just because it would be cooler to see it afterward, and there may even be some way to play it online, which would be really sweet.

Put me on the team, definitely.
I vote we do balancing, but allow the average card power to drift a little bit higher to make it feel more exciting. Remember that we don't have to worry about ruining the metagame like R&D does; there won't be any long-term consequences.
Second order of business! We need a general format for posting cards.
Since we'll need to be posting a lot of them, and making changes, I propose we abandon the flashy card-maker we used in the old thread and use plain text, formatted the way R&D does during development.
Example:
My First Creature
2W
Creature - Human Idiot
1/1
CARDNAME gets +2/+2 if you haven't played a spell this turn.
This allows for quick reading and quick changes.

Yea that's fine. Either that or you can just post the link to the image instead of the image itself. We're going to be making them in the flashy card form eventually anyway, so you can just go in and edit if changes are made. I'll be posting the links to the images in the masterpost in alphabetical order when this is all done.
And since we're making an entire set, let's not have a discussion over every single card we make, otherwise we are never going to complete this. If somebody on the team posts a card that you have a strong problem with, then we can bring up a discussion to make changes, but otherwise don't open up a dialogue if there's just a little something you don't personally like.
edit: I vote no on upping the overall power level. If they're all proportionately more powerful, then it makes no difference, and making them stronger than Lowyrn would make it almost unworkable.

Hey guys, and gals perhaps
I will help, but blizzard or someone can you please tell me the basic rundown on one of the card systems you feel I could get creative with? (More areas for creativity the better)
If you want you can just post a link for me to read allllll the deatilas (which wouldnt be eintirely bad since I could catch up on ALL rules for special features like flying, and stuff like that)
ok, I hope my point was clear, I am not gonna spell check this or anything, thanks

Add me if you want. I´ve played MtG few years (up to Mirrodin), so I guess I can keep it balanced.
I have exam-time for month, so I won´t create like 50 cards a day, but I guess I can manage to make some at midnights.

Example:
My First Creature
2W

CARDNAME gets +2/+2 if you haven't played a spell this turn.
This allows for quick reading and quick changes.
I suggest the usual format for the You Make The Card section of the official mtg forums:
[name] [mana cost]
[type line] [rarity]
[rules text]
[power/toughness or loyalty if applicable]
This format is more similar to what you actually see on the cards and thus more intuitive.
I suggest we decide if we are certain about using the QP mechanic I proposed (which, frankly, is kinda thallids/snow squared, but hey) and if so, then how much room in the set we want to devote to that. Oh, and have we decided on a set size yet?
For the record, here are my suggested examples of QP-themed cards:
Shower in QPs W
Instant
Put a QP counter on target creature.
Prevent all damage that would be dealt this turn to each creature with a QP counter.
QP Hunter 2G
Creature - Human Poster
Trample
QP Hunter gets +1/+1 for each QP counter on it.
2/2
Mighty Mage's Whim 2BB
Sorcery
Each creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn for each QP counter on that creature.
Floodprotect 1WU
Enchantment
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a QP counter on target creature without a QP counter.
Creature without QP counters do not untap during their controller's untap steps.
Quote: And since we're making an entire set, let's not have a discussion over every single card we make, otherwise we are never going to complete this. If somebody on the team posts a card that you have a strong problem with, then we can bring up a discussion to make changes, but otherwise don't open up a dialogue if there's just a little something you don't personally like.
How about this: we limit ourselves to the design right now, and thus ignore minor balance issues for the moment. Rules related and gameplay affecting issues should be up for discussion right from the start.
Also, I suggest we halt on the actual posting of cards for the moment and discuss the themes of the set. Except of course example cards to demonstrate a proposed mechanic.

Some years ago I used to participate in big set development, so will help you if time lets me.
I like the idea of QP mechanic, but every set should introduce two of different type. Also, we should specify the idea the set is based on. Are we going to show HC possibly real? Or is it gonna to be humorous or totally wicked?
Don't forget about balancing rarity, types and costs, creating card cycles. It all needs to be managed as spontaneous card creation won't lead anywhere.

I'm in, and I can do a lot of the design and card making. Anything you need. Vorthos Patrol and Rules Confidant can be my fortes. Anything you need.
EDIT - Btw, a thought just occured to me. Are we being serious fun or Un-set fun? Just wondering what the consensus is.

I returned today expecting to see nobody here. How wrong I was!
The You-Make-The-Card text format is acceptable. It's more important that we standardize than that we save 0.2 seconds during editing.
I propose a ~200 card set. A small set is too small, anyone who has drafted triple eventide can attest to this. However, a large set might be too much for us to handle. Bigger is better, as long as you keep it balanced, but we should be aiming for ~200.
Lord Woock's model of the QP counter system is a good start; we should be expanding that into a major theme, as it's HC's defining characteristic IMO. (I'm sorry, but Homm just isn't that popular anymore. )
We should also try to get mechanics going for Forum, Thread, and Moderator. Forums are obviously nonbasic lands, and threads are probably Enchantments. Maybe rename the Planeswalker type Moderator? We don't need a mechanic for individual posts, because that's basically just an instant or sorcery card, and we don't need a mechanic for users, because that's basically a creature card.
I think, for the Rarity issue, we should take an approach similar to Kamigawa block: legendary creatures at uncommon, and some legendary-rewarding mechanics to balance the inherent downside of the Legend rule.
Finally, I think the set should have a mood like Lorwyn: lightly amusing, but not clownish like Unglued.

@Lord Woock: sounds like a good start to the QP system.
I also recommend we incorporate yellow stars as well. Red QP's will affect creatures in various beneficial ways (as listed in some of Woocks examples) whereas yellow stars will allow a land to produce a mana type of any color. We're probably going to end up having a lot of multicolored cards in the set in order to accurately reflect a lot of people in the cards. A yellow star will be a one-time-use counter that you can use to have a land produce any mana of your choice when you tap it. You would get these yellow star counters through various cards. Examples:
Aculius
2GU
Creature - Merman Stalker
3/3
Aculius comes into play with 7 yellow stars. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a yellow star from Aculius and put it on a land of your choice.
Evasion's Spamfest
2U
Instant
Put a yellow star on every land you control.
LGBT Community Board
RR
Enchantment
Tap: Put a yellow star on a land of your choice
Volcanic Wastelands Moderator's Log Report
RBX
Sorcery
Destroy a number of yellow stars equal to X in the casting cost.
----
Concerning the size of the set, I think we can all agree that 200 cards is a good goal to reach for. If we end up going past that, I don't see it being a big deal. Full sets will get to 350 cards or more.

This is a really great idea Especially my spamfest, haha
Maybe we should have something like this:
[The War Room of Axeoth] (it is named Dimension Door now I think)
<image>
Makes any card inactive for a while
okay I don't know the rules or so about Magic, but at least I tried to make something
Edit: It was called 'Dimension Gates'

Magic R&D has tried in recent years to stick to one kind of counter per block (with minor exceptions for stuff like Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer or Aven Mimeomancer). I feel this is something we should stick to, as things get confusing as soon as a creature has counters of multiple types. Thus, I feel we shouldn't express the idea of yellow stars in the form of counters.
I am of the opinion that making them into a full theme is completely skippable, as they're not nearly as lively a topic on the boards as QPs. However, we could express the posts/forums interaction in different ways:
Post Reply 1G
Instant
Untap up to two target forums.
Also, a cycle of creatures:
Malicious Spammer 2B
Creature - Human Spammer
T, pay 2 life: untap target forum.
1/2
Incoherent Spammer 2R
Creature - Human Spammer
T: Flip a coin. If you win the flip, untap target forum.
1/2
Mind-boggling Spammer 2U (not certain if this should be blue or white in terms of mechanics. In terms of the ability's flavor, it's actually quite red)
Creature - Human Spammer
T: Untap target forum. It doesn't untap during it's controller's next untap step.
1/2
...and similar for the other three colors.
Maybe a legendary Spammer that taps to untap all other spammers?
