I watched that a bit too before deciding to rewatch 30 Days of Night.
Awesome movie, I like how they portray the vampires. Savage yet gracious.

Okay, so I recorded Johnny English so I can watch it later.
Watched Perfect stranger instead. It was pretty good, had an unexpected ending and was actually quite interesting.

Might have missed a few here and there but you get the general ideea.
I really doubt humanity will ever have people like Kurosawa, Tarkovsky, Kubrik, Ingmar Bergmam etc again.

Dude, you can't generalize like that, there are lots and lots of new movies that are great. You should try widening your horizons and giving the movies a dchance.
But yeah, those you listed are pretty good.

I mean, how can you not love a movie that starts with this sentence?

Actually I can. And here's why. The only good movies I saw this year were Inglorius Basterds, Shutter Island and Alice in Wonderland (moslty because I am a Tim Burton fan). I hope to add Inception to the list soon. The only movies I liked in 2009 were Moon, Antichrist and Taken (mostly for Liam Neeson).
I am not into box office + CGI movies.
I like the artistic part of the movie. I like the characters and the story. These elements are more important in a movie and I assure you that people will mostly forget about Transformers or *insert random horror movie* while Alien or 2001 Space Odyssey will always be remembered.

Vanilla Sky and True Romance are both one of my gf's favourite films.
And I agree with the other dude, most new movies DO suck but hey, Carcity, it's all up to ones personal opinions, so if he thinks that they suck then let him think that. He doesn't need to broaden his horizons or anything. I've tried giving new movies a chance, didn't like them, so prefer to watch older stuff. Do I need to broaden my tastes? lol
I personally think that the older movies have more original plots, better character development and are more interesting to watch because they do NOT rely on CGI graphics or any computer animation or any of that fancy stuff, it's just what a movie SHOULD be.
That's my opinion anyway. Disagree with it if you will.

Some people prefer old over new, why try to force them to watch newer stuff? No, I haven't seen every movie made but that's a very very poor argument. Who , honestly, has seen every movie and do I NEED to see every single one to make a judgment? There might be the odd movie out that is good but the majority of them, no, and because 1 out of 1000 (for example) may be good, doesn't mean that I should go and watch most new films and like them. lol

Kurosawa films are awesome too.
But modern-day films don't suck. Such generalisations are rather dangerous and may lead to having a narrow view (and come on, the dark knight abuses farm animals) (with that I mean it kicks ass). Sure, the majority sucks, but so does the majority of old films. Sturgeon's law and all that. Manos, the hands of fate is still considered the worst movie out there and it's an old one (not that it proves a point, but still...)
Oh, by the way, has anyone seen little miss sunshine?
