Minarets?

I heard the Swiss just banned those, what's up with that?

Don't know, but if I had to guess, then probably due to problems with too loud sound, which spread across the private property into the private property of others.

They're outrageously neutral. They're so neutral that they're neutral about not being neutral.

It spells trouble for Swizerland if you ask me. Being a dane and all that stuff with those drawings I wouldn't be surprised if they're up for much the same as we got back then.

And it's sad really for such a stupid thing as banning minarets. I can't even imagine how they ever got it through, but of course the danish rightwing politicians are excited and want to do a similar law here.

Their **** reasons are hilarious. Free Speech or Symbols is/are free only as long as something is not banned. Reminds me of Germany's anti-gore obsession.

@Angelito: Pure democracy sucks. That's what constitutions are for. "Most people agree to it" doesn't make it okay.

Ultimately, it's a pretty trivial matter either way, but matters ought to be confronted while they remain trivial. The last thing the Muslim population is going to do is just disappear (quite the opposite more than likely), so it's naive to assume it will end here. This isn't befitting for a country that's suppose to respect private property, and the ban obviously isn't in place for practical purposes in the way that you're not allowed to build a skyscraper in the middle of a residential zone. It's a cultural war bleeding over into politics.

If one is going to restrict people's freedoms, they're better off simply barring them from immigrating to the country in the first place. After all, a nation isn't obligated to let people move in anymore than a person is obligated to let any guy into their living-room. But once they're moved in, it's oppressive to start restricting what they can do. This isn't as big of a deal as the ban on niqabs and hijabs in France, but once again, this probably won't be the last ban put into place.

Don't shoot me if it's wrong, I don't live there.

I read on the news (some time ago) they banned a C&C game because of tanks going over soldiers (squashing them). How lame is that? (if true)

Muslim = expansion.

First they want no discrimination, but half of them are in prisons (the ratio in France is 90% muslim prisoners). Then they want full respect for their religion, that's ok until they refuse to live near non muslims, they refuse to enter a swimming pool because they go in water fully clothed only, they refuse to do mixed marriage because not same religion, they refuse to eat same things and need special stores everywhere, they refuse to go to public school without burka from head to legs. Now minarets. Some rights have to be earned first. Then we talk again.

There's only 4% Muslims, most of them immigrants from the Balkans. Bosniaks and Kosovars are hardly the fanatics one has in mind when looking at the anti-minaret poster:

Not sure what's the reason for xenophobia there - most of their non-Muslim immigrants are from the EU anyway.

If it was true - no idea if it is: can you really blame us Germans for banning TANKS squashing people in a video game?

Yes. It's unforgivable!

However, in this case, I see both sides of the argument, though I have to ultimately side with those who don't care.

@Salamandre: Do you think of anything else? Because most of what you said is their personal right to do so -- they didn't force anyone, did they? I have the right to refuse what I don't want from your list.

And as for jail, how do Minarets put them in jail or break the law? hmm

@JJ: But that was the tradition in the C&C series (tanks squash soldiers), just more graphically advanced in that game (hey it evolves).
