Bixie, just a note to you. If you intend to be at Rex' home, forget it. I may have not made it clear enough, but Rex lives in his WAY over-boobytrapped workshop. However it may the case that you have run into one of his past clients. Seeing as Rex can be employeed as a freelance, no-questions-asked weapons-developer.
If this is not the case and I misenterprated your post. I'm sorry to have brought this up.

maybe my guys just that good.
I was really hoping for some kind of team-up between Mallard and Palmer, one man whose tempted to seize power, the other simply wanted to have fun.
work around how you see fit when you get to it. Mallard strikes me as the kind of man who will attempt a take over, and Palmer just wants more people to kill.

I don't think your guy is that good, because you described a fine home. Not a heavy-weapon's workshop. Besides, like I said, the workshop is way over-boobytrapped. If you managed to get in, and that is a big if seeing as the sentryguns react to air-displacement. You could not touch two things without setting one off.
I think it better you ran into one of Rex' clients.
I'm not exactly sure Rex would be the man that would want to take over anything. Most things on his mind are his next machine/weapon or the next upgrade of one. Then again to get hold of everything he needs for that, he'd have to get many things he make himself due to the small scale of his workshop. He needs to make deals and raid army bases and researchcenters. He would also need to test everything on such places and the general public.
But Rex would like to see the entire army destroyed, just to get revenge. And I can probably come up with several other grudges he carries.
But certainly a partnership between our two characters would be very interesting.

maybe someone could have irked him in the past. possibly it's Zero himself, I don't know. I thought he would be the kind of person to have a plan to kill everyone.

He planned to kill everyone with superpowers, if I understand correctly.
Rex does not have superpowers. He's a great weapons-developer, causes as much or more havoc than a terrorist organisation and can create nearly every machine he can think of. But he has no superpowers.
But Rex probably has many bones to pick yet. I just need to think of them.

@ B-E-T-A: Not be intrusive, but we need to know what part you're exactly talking about when you ask us to correct you if you were wrong.
Is it the part about the nanobots and your char needing to know the basics of machinery and weapons? Or about the fact that the room seems strangely devoid of your superpower-vision?

The looks of the room. When I ask about if something is wrong it is always the last thing I mentioned in the post unless stated to be otherwise. I find it to be quite common around the Glade nowdays.
