That's the case in Might and Magic too though but it's still a great game.  Baldur's Gate issues are terrible pathfinding and idiotically high difficulty at times (having to repeat one fight 20 times isn't fun and wasn't fun even back then). I remember people saving each time some of their characters managed to score a lucky hit against some awfully evasive monster, at one point I started doing that too. 
By the way, 2d5 for example should mean 2 rolls, each of which could give results between 1 and 5.

That's "easy" to override! My brother spent half a day creating his hero in BG, just to get the highest possible roll. I don't remember the details but he had sth like 18/00 Strength (best possible throw if I recall) and a lot of points to distribute. Add to that an item that gives you 19 Strength and Boots of Speed (ones that double your movement speed) and voilą! He spend most of the game plowing through enemies like a lawn mower. I don't remember if he defeated Drizzt though...

Faf game the other day.
Accidentally upgraded my mass extractors waaaaaaaay too soon killing my early game and was worrying that it might had costed me the game but then. BOOM! Enemy commander suicided on purpose lol.

Good thing about having the flu and not really enjoying anything is that you can grind in games like a zombie and earn treasures for having actual fun with later..

well FFXII was good. and I guess it's the contrary of FFXIII, you can program your actions, and then you do not need to touch anything (except direction stick)

Very true. I liked how FF 12 seemed to be more of an open world as well.

Playing Civ 5 almost on a daily basis with meh buddies, really, really enjoying it. We used to play on hybrid and not really war till renaissance/information and then it is just mass frigates and then nukes and carriers. Now our games are just epic, (simultaneous turns too) big battles early and actual conflict as early as ancient era. Problem was all of us had our heads in the clouds, just wanting to improve in peace till we could crap out units optimally and have our economies solid. So far Germany is by far one of my fav factions, Venice is hands down my favourite if you get a good location (at least 1 militaristic city state is really nice, in my game I had 8 city states in a ring around me and 3 military ones just gifting me high grade units every 16 turns aprox, one of my buddies tried fleeing with his invasion force, I converted the coastal city state which he was going through, oh god the slaughter, my ships were in wait as well).
With Germany I just strutted around with my horde of brutes (I had 14 by turn 60 on epic which kinda screwed my production) extorting all the city states around me, which was pretty fun. My buddy is aztecs, and their ancient units were insane strong on the defensive, so I just swarmed over the tactical expansion that lay between us and he was forced to back off. My other friend is Mongols, played passively till medieval and now swarming over the other civs with his keshik horde. (we each got to choose 1 ai civ, not as allies, just civ prefs) And the other guy is Rome, got a stick up his ass about Austria's religion in his lands, so Ima sneak a couple of missionaries into his lands >.<

Planetside 2... finally able to play it at a good framerate.
It's come a long way with the feeling of progression... the grind for certs is easier and there's a lot of achievement-esque directives to go for.

reached act 2 in diablo 3. wow, act 1 in cemeteries, act 2 in desert, I haven't played diablo 2 much, but if I remember it well, I guess act 3 will be the jungle...
still, it's fun. for some reason it's also easier than act 1 so far.

Well, act 2 is almost always desert in hack and slash games.
Diablo 2 = desert
Diablo 3 = desert
Torchlight 2 = desert
Titan Quest = desert
and so on.
Meanwhile, I'm re-playing a modded Dungeon Siege 2 with my friend. This game is actually still great fun, even though the antiquated UI, tons of bugs that even the modders couldn't fix and instability annoys me a lot. It does get boring quick for single player, but is a lot of laugh for two guys.

I know that feeling. Tried some SC2 the other day and it was awful. I used to get 200 apm when I was younger, now I can't even get 100.
