Iran is a threat because it is a dictatorial and somewhat unstable regime that is trying to acquire nuclear weapons. That's all there is to it.

No, most people on this forum don't bother discussing things with people who think whole nations should be turned into "glass parking lots". In addition, there have already been several threads like this one.

I'm mostly preaching to the choir, but I really enjoyed his talk so I decided to post it here. I like listening to Chomsky when it comes to foreign affairs. I didn't really plan on it being a big discussion thread, and this stuff has been talked about a lot in the past.

Iran is a threat because they want everyone on the globe to bow to Allah. The Islamic "revolution." They call the US the "Great Satan" and Isreal the "little Satan." They would love to destroy both and the all nations that won't bow to Allah. Iran funds and backs terrorism and their lunatic president would surely use nukes if he got hiw hands on them.

[a bit offtopic]

A muslim died. He stands in front of a door in heaven. Someone opens it, and the muslim says:

"Allah, finally, glad to see you, I am so happy!"
"I'm not Allah, I am Moses. To see Allah, you have to climb higher!"

The muslim climbs higher up in the sky. Next door. Someone opens it, and the muslim says:

"Allah, finally, glad to see you, I am so happy!"
"I'm not Allah, I am Jesus. To see Allah, you have to climb higher!"

So the muslim climbs even higher up in the sky. Next door. Someone opens it, and the muslim says:

"Allah, finally, glad to see you, I am so happy!"
"I'm not Allah, I am God. But tell me, do you like a cup of coffee?"
"Of course"
And God turns around and says:
"Allah! 2 cup of coffee!"

I have a hard time wrapping my brain around the feasibility of complete nuclear disarmament, as attractive as that may sound I think it's pie in the sky, but for the most part I think Chomsky's opinions on foreign affairs are extremely convincing.

Cause iran is very very evil, and to launch pre-emptive attack on iran will add few more years of oil reserve. A few thousands of civilian people die is not a problem because they follow evil. A hundreds of soldiers will die but it is not a problem as well because they died as heroes of a holy war ..

Long live america !!!

But then the country with the nuke should nuke itself, because a nuke is also a type of missile.

Also, the way to destroy a threat is not to destroy every component of it. For something to be a threat, several components together must fit well to be so, so simply getting rid of one of these, you can still destroy a threat, without having to harm anyone.

just a quick note for Elodin before I state my piece.

It's actually the UK that is refered to as "The little satan" by the Iatolla of Iran, not Isreal.

Anyway, only my main point.

Iran has been badly treated over the years by the western powers. when the democratically elected president decided that he was going to charge more on exporting oil, because it will help fund his country and start to progress, the US and the Uk were not happy about this. thus, they removed the democratically elected president and replaced him with the Sha of Iran, a brutal, despotic, radical regime who stomped all over human rights, but still provided foreign powers with a discount to the oil.

In the 80's, when the cold war was winding down, hairstyles were conspiring against humanity, and Madonna was female, the Iranian people grew extremely restless with this set up, kicked out the Sha, as well as the powers that supported him (western forces), and erected the Iatola and his various chosen regimes, including the most recent, Ahmedenhajhad. most of them have been extremely Anti-western, because of, you know, imposing a despot on them just so we can get the oil.

However, with the new millenium, it is time for Iran to change, and huge amounts of Iranian citizens are called for a democratic election. when the Iatolla alowed it, 95% of the population turned up, and voted for Ahmedenhajhads rival in a landslide. the Iatolla, not wanting his pet monkey to be kicked out, discarded the vote and kept Ahmedenhajhad on. when the people protested in record numbers, the national guard greeted them with teargass, sheilds and bullets.

Iran, like many of the people of that region, hate isreal, not because it's Jewish, but because of it's poor construction. Taking land that belonged to Paletstinians for centuries, telling them to politely f**k off, then putting a whole bunch of, what they persceive as, westerners with a highly funded army in doesn't seem, to them, like some kind of noble act, they see it as some kind of aggressive take-over. I mean, how would you react if your neighbour marched in to you're garden, armed with a bloody tank, and took over half of it.

Iran- we've f**ked her over and we're surprised that she doesn't want to play nice?
