This is actually quite a good argument.
Also, from a personal view, I'm not American so I can't love guns, while I do love dogs. Dogs give you something even when you're not under attack by armed robbers.

Yeah but you can use a gun to rob people also. It's not like they serve one function. Plus you can use them to shoot dogs.
I feel so bad for the countless huge, athletic dogs that are cooped in houses in the middle of the city and suburbs. They're built to roam and hunt, and then they live their life in a house having to hold their piss and crap until their alpha master let's them go outside, and every so often their master takes them on a walk as a measly and grossly inadequate substitute of what they want to be doing. Mass animal cruelty ftl.

Yes, you are right. But often it is either that or let them die in a refuge, while spending 24/24 H in a 1 meter cage.

Quote:
Remember the idea is not to get into some wild west gun fight like on TV. The idea is to stop the crime. When pointing a gun at someone, it's the intimidation factor that stops the crime. I mean if you break into a house and hear a pump action shotgun, you'd immediately freeze on the spot and squeeze your butt cheeks so tight that you don't so much as let out a fart. It's what I said earlier about shotguns, the visual intimidation goes a long way. The sound can have the same effect.
The only time I might consider a verbal warning is if the invader's back is to me. Then I'd be ready to fire if he made any sudden move.
Indimidation factor is nice and all, but there are a lot of crack-heads so high you are not going to intimidate them. If you buy a gun for home defense be prepared to shoot it. It is you and your family or them. Protect yourself and your family.
Yeah, the sound of a pump action can be intimidating but you also have to shoot the gun enough to be very proficient with it so that when you are frightened the pump action is an automatic reflex.

Watched too many Clint Eastwood movies, you did. I just hope this thread is a joke, because buying a weapon, while you are not police officer or well trained at least, and when you have wife and kids, is the stupidest thing to do, and will always end bad. This is not protecting them, but expose to danger.

elodin is obviously paranoid.
do you also have electrical fences, cameras and soldiers patroling in your garden with submachine guns?
are christians supposed to shoot criminals (especially without a warning)?
