The Juggernaut is so far the only Inferno creature the tier of which is officially confirmed and it's Elite.

I doubt they'd take lowly slave mooks and grant them potent magics, armor and weaponry.
The Sentinel/Praetorian is a simple core cannon-fodder, but he wears an armor which is entirely up to date with the latest catwalk fashion. And we don't know what abilities does the Succubus have.

There's a difference between arming a professional soldier and a decking out your sex toy.
I'd imagine a slave, especially one part of demon "culture" to wear little more then chains and rags.
The lesser Succubi and Incubi don't sound like they'd be useful on the field of battle at all, possibly on the side lines as eye candy to pimp your hero.... that would actually be kind of cool...
Not practical, but cool, really hammer home the badass (+a little bit of pimp) of your hero.

Besides:
If you're going to be using Succubi and Incubi as a military unit, you're doing it for their unique talents, because physically they are lesser compared to all but the lowly Imp, as far as we know.
Which means their subtle techniques, guile and trickery.
I mean employing them on the front lines for anything besides that leaves them with.. what? the ability to squeal like a woman when hit?

I think we should not discuss what's practical and what's not, because none of the Haven creatures look like soldier/warrior or generally anything military-like (except perhaps the Crossbowman and the Griffin before they get upgraded), but yet here they are on the front-lines, shining in armors for 100 000 dollars each and wearing weapons that hardly can be used to kill anything that doesn't sit on its arse and patiently waits to be gut. Moreover, Inferno's hierarchy is composed of numerous levels of slaves, so if you are not on top, you are yet another slave. Let's just skip this and focus on the description. According to it the majority of the succubi don't enjoy any privileges, but yet can be useful. Also they are described as relying on sneaky tactics, not on brute force. Sounds exactly like a core unit to me. Of course this does not mean that it can't be elite, just that it's a bit more likely to be core.

We'll just disagree then.

Being drafted (bullied) into warfare by another demon versus being used as a recreational tool are I'd say quite different.
Besides if the ones we're using in combat were of such low status the designers will have added visual clues like shackles and chains.
The visual elements they did provide point towards the opposite.
A whip is a design hallmark of a creature that gives commands, not takes them.
Not to mention the fair skin and arrogant and in-control look on the face.
The unit screams confidence, cunning and control, the exact opposite of a slave who should express desperation, abuse and agony.

My bet is on an Elite with a reasonably complex mechanic and poor stats for direct combat.
Possibly a spellcaster.

Well, I disagree about most of the things as we need to take into account the general concept art style of MMH:VI, Inferno's weirdness (the whip is no weapon in the first place) and all that, but it's quite pointless to discuss this further. When they announce the actual line-up, we'll see who's right.

Presuming he isn't pulling our leg.

Either the Tormentor is Elite or the Succubus.
(Another reason for me to bet on the Succubus.)

If it goes my way we'll have the Imp sitting on core, probably as some kind of tricky unit, maybe a core spellcaster.
Then throw in the Efreet on Elite.
However I doubt we'll be seeing Efreets in Ashan as part of the Inferno line-up.
The Nightmare might return again, as a creature loyal to Ur-"whatever his name is" the Demon Lord of Fear/Terror.
Possibly a dedicated flyer, some kind of large bat-like demon.
Or they aren't done with the Kreegan references, I vaguely recall them saying SOMETHING about Kreegans, I still can't find anything about them though.

So the Pit Fiend is indeed a Champion then, Sir Charles' no longer alone.
Now we need to figure out whether the Tormentor or the Succubus is the second Elite.

Assuming Elvin isn't taking the mickey on us, my prediction was wrong and we've yet to see an Inferno Elite and a Core unit.

I agree with Mr Dragon on this one. Hellhounds and Tormentors seem to be Core units, Juggernauts and Succubi seem Elites and Pit Fiends are the Champions.
Given the idea that about 40% of the creatures are new exluding upgrades, that would about corrospond with about three new creatures per faction (Which would corrospond with 42% of the seven creatures). So we've yet to see a remastered old creature and a new one.

My bet is on an Imp for the Core and a new Elite.

I believe they (ubi or black hole) said something about not having 'tiny' creatures (peasants, fairies, imps) as part of the lineups. So if there is an Imp-like creature it'll be probably as much innovating the old imp as creating a new creature.

Inferno core :

Tormentors looks quite frail next to the Juggernauts and overall less "impressive" than both Juggernauts and Succubi, so imo, they are core.

1. Cerberus (cavalry)
2. Tormentors (melee)

The 3rd core unit has to be either a shooter or a support. My bet is on Imps/Familiars as shooter (Familiars are shooters in Heroes Kingdoms).

Inferno elites :

What I don't get is whether the Juggernauts are cavalry (since they talk about them charging in the description) or if they're considered melee since they're physically impressive (and I can hardly see such huge things being blazing fast ). I will simply suppose that they are melees.

1. Juggernauts (melee)
2. Succubi (support)

In that case, the 3rd elite should either be cavalry or a shooter. My bet would go on Hell Chargers/Nightmares (mostly because it's my most favourite unit since H3 )

Inferno champion :

What kind of Pit Fiends are we going to see ? The casters from H5 Vanilla or the melee version (Pit Spawn) from H5 TotE ?

With the Inferno's predilection to Destructive magic, I could see the Pit Fiends as a strong destructive caster.

With the revelation that 2 or the Elites are already presented to us, I am slightly more inclined to agree that the Succubus could be Elite because it looks better drawn than the Tormentor - which is basically a re-painted Ghoul. But I'm not backing off for now - it still could be Core.
By the way, with the latest statement that the destructive magic will get weakened, I don't think I want to see the Pit Fiend/Lord as a (destructive) caster. It didn't perform very well as such in HoMM V and only if they make the creatures' spell-casting abilities scale much better, it will have some chance as a mage.

I can imagine the tormentor as similar as the ghoul (cannon fodderish damagedealer) or as a superpowerful demon of pain. Either could work ^^

If I would have to decide, I think Succubus is still more "elite" than the tormentor, so yeah, my guess changes now to that ;P

I just notice that Inferno has no ranged unit until now, as Succubi have a whip. And I don't quite think that Inferno will have no ranged unit whatsoever so the last core/elite must have at least one ranged!

I think the core will be ranged, and the elite will be the nightmare.

My bet is:

Core:

Tormentor (i explained already)
Cerberus (don't think will be powerful enough and then suddenly become a puppy in HoMM5)
Gog/Magog (Inferno need to have a shooter)

Elite:

Succubi (i explained already as well)
Jugernaut (according to HoMM6 cinematic video, do you really think this huge creature killing Haven Knight can be core unit?)
New creature! (should be new, i wish and believe)

Champion:

Pit Lord (most powerful creature in Inferno line-up)

Edit: Referring to the Pit Fiend/Lord.

Well, now that monsters have their own spell casting stat (at least so I believe thanks to the Igromir clip) my bet is on a hybrid Caster/Big Melee Monster.
Not unlike he was in HV, but better, the "new and improved" version of that.
I mean, I was quite fond of him slinging fireballs all over the place, thought it worked rather well.
Sure you needed int artifacts to get him to preform really well, but when he did, he was lethal, in all 3 his incarnations.

I'd be sad if he was dumbed down to a pure melee like his predecessor.
I hate HV Devils, they were horribly a underwhelming and lack-luster unit.

Hope that does indeed apply the Imps, they would ruin a great lineup. I'd like Nightmares to come back as well but they might not be serious-looking enough either.

It's still possible that Inferno gets more new than old creatures, the 40% rule might be a general thing and some factions go above it while others go below.
