The developers said that the Imps, Gremlins, Leprechauns and others will not return, because they are too faincy and to ocatotonish to this world.
So dont wait for imps, but may be magogs?

It makes sense because Gremlins and Imps are too fragile to be core units, which are about level 3 in stats.

Well, I think the imp would have made a great core unit if they gave it a bit more bad-ass, I've seen some pretty nasty and vicious imps.
That said, the Gog/Magog is a very good unit.
It also links back to H3 which was referred to by M&M fans as "Kreegan Inferno" and they dropped that word a few times.
Meanwhile on the elite side of the monster curve:
I'm starting to feel more and more like the Elite, might be flyer, with a fear or terror theme, and that they are dropping the Nightmare, which is fine by me actually, I was never very attached to that unit.
I won't be sad to see it go, but I won't be disappointed if it stays either.
Now these bat-like monsters I'm imagining.
I'll try and illustrate it with words.
*clears his throat*
Suddenly a shrill cry sounds in the sky above followed by an entire ghoulish chorus, a brief glance at a crimson sky with dark shapes flitting across it was all that could be seen before their vision went dark as they were engulfed by the enemies that rained down from above.
A few soldiers managed to scramble away in time to avoid impact with their foe, and stared in horror as the flock of horrific beasts had landed on their allies and were slicing and biting with claws and fangs.
They were something straight out of a nightmare, roughly the size of a man, with wings large enough to envelop an entire horse, these things gazed out from skull like faces with flames pouring from their sockets.
Crimson leathery skin stretched tightly over a wiry skeletal frame, there was so much blood everywhere it was hard to tell if these things looked like that naturally or whether it was merely the remains of their victims cloaked about them.
They had finished with their first round and now stared upon the remainder of the unit.
They had to run, flee, these were not an enemy you could face, but they couldn't turn, they were utterly petrified, powerless to move, they could merely blankly stare at that face, their brains to busy trying to comprehend.
It grinned, massive dagger like fangs protruded from it's mouth, far to large to fit neatly into it's skull, it's ribs were showing through it's skin as it stepped forward on its two short legs that were equipped with talons large enough to slice cleanly through your neck.
It dropped to all fours, using the tips of it's wings as front legs, it seemed in no hurry at all, all to keenly aware of the paralyzing fear that had taken hold of it's prey.
Once in range, it leaped, landed on his chest and draped it's wings around him like a curtain, shielding off all light from outside, all he could see were those two burning eyes and all he could hear were his own screams, swiftly silenced by blood filling his lungs.
Something like that.

Yeah, there will defintly be some kind of flyer or teleporter.
Perhaps Efreets could make a return? Especially if Academy doesn't make an appearance with their Djinn.

Skeletons are fragile too in previous series, yet they are core units now. What makes you think Gremlins and Imps can't do the same?

Kind of true ^^ Skeletons have never been strong. But I can imagine them "sturdy" especially against ranged weapons, because they are skeletal. Imp and Gremlin are small creatures and it would be "weirder" in a way. But hey that was just some reasoning for fun, of course they can implement bad-ass imps too ^^

No No No for Imps in HoMM6
because:
1. If they change the look of Imps as a real badass, how will you explain their turn into a "pokemon-ish" childish being with small horns and a bottle with mana in HoMM5???
2. As developers are getting rid of "Leprecaun-ish" creatures (which i guess means tier1, maybe tier2 sometimes) so the weakest Inferno creature should be out.
3. You can say that Skeletons are tier1 and are core unit. But..
I can not imagine any lore of necromancers/undead without skeletons. They just can not exist without them, may be skeleton-archers/minions/warriors/guards/etc. but there should be a skeleton!
As for Imps , Inferno can exist without them, they have another 1000 faces anyway

H5 and H6 art designs are different, doesn't have anything to do with the continuity. This applies to any game out there: art design have nothing to do with the continuity. Dev can always change the art design of a series if they want. Beside you seriously think they care about continuity problems?

Moot argument, almost every creature has gotten a makeover, some of which is rather extreme, the new Succubus looks VERY different from the old one.
The new ghosts are completely different, the new hellhounds are completely different.
Their art style is completely different, so this basically goes for more or less every bloody unit.
It's based on the same world, same timeline (probably only roughly) and similar concepts, but it's a different game with a different developer.
They shouldn't let themselves be shackled by the previous title more then is reasonable.
In fact, and this is extremely rare from me, I wouldn't even mind if they retcon a few things, HoMMV's general story wasn't that inspiring anyway.
One could even argue it's not a retcon, history, particularly in medieval-ish times (with a pinch of fantasy) tends to be incomplete, poorly recorded or coloured by those writing it.
History of a war is generally written and portrayed afterward by those that won.
I loved HoMMV, even more then I did HoMMIII, but it had many flaws and a lot of things to improve upon, one of those, and whilst I didn't dislike the art style THAT much, it could have been better.
I'll be damned if I'll accept them forcibly reverting to that style purely for the sake of a continuity that wasn't that popular in the first place.

Let's say i really wish that they do care
And i know that developers have the 100% right to do whatever they feel is better. My point is that if they make an Imp as a powerful unit especially melee (for a spellcaster i can forgive them) it will be at least weird to see Imps so weakened in HoMM5 with low stats. That's why i lean towards rather making a New unit(or a return of Gog/Magog) then enpowering Imps. Anyways it's just IMHO

Then what about the rest of the core units? You don't find it weird to see them weakened in H5?

But nobody else on-board with my flying terror demon elite idea?
I wrote a chunk of flavour text and everything.
I'm not saying it'll be that unit, but I'm saying it might be something vaguely resembling something like that.

Well im sorry i can't say i like the basic idea. It reminds me of a flying torrmentor/h5 wyvern too much, i'd prefer efreet more than anything to be honest.
But you portrayed it really good so i'll give u some credit.

Thanks, it's appreciated somebody bothered to read it.
Yeah, the Efreet would be nice, but I doubt they actually are infernal creatures....UNLESS, they are demonically altered Genies or something, like a Genie seeking power from beyond the mortal coil.
I mean, for Efreet's they've got to do something to make em fit into Ashan.
Then again, they could just ally themselves with Demons for ideological reasons and having a fondness for fire and destruction.
Maybe a lost kingdom of Genies that was trapped in Sheogh...
Ok I just came up with 3 reasons, which might not be very good, but it was on the fly, it could work.

H6 seems to be aiming not to have different variations of the same unit, so I doubt they would try to have Efreet, a "demonic Djinn" (like how the Lich is not simply an undead-Mage anymore if I recall the description correctly) and even if they did, it wouldn't fit in the current opposites setup anyway (since it's wizards vs necromancers).

Well, Efreet are Djinn, interpreting them as anything other then a type of Djinn would be very weird.
Also as far as opposites go.
The original HoMMIII Inferno had both Efreet and Devils, which hated Genies and Angels respectively.
So "opposite of faction X" has nothing to do with it, I'd say.
In fact, it would be nice if we could shake that concept entirely.
8 or 10 unique factions shouldn't be 4 or 5 with their opposites.
I don't even think a good vs evil symmetry is needed, or more accuretly "benevolent-ish" versus "nasty-ish" as they already seem to be moving towards a ethical gray zone.
