So guys.. is this game playable? I wasn't the biggest fan of morrowind (was kinda boring), and never played oblivion. Is it a bit like Fallout3 in combat? (i.e. you just right click stuff to death without any strategy) ?

It works on 1.1 but it's pretty easy no matter what path you pick.

Well it's very, very Elder Scrolls. So yes, you pretty much click things to death. And it's disturbingly easy to do that, too, which doesn't stop people from constantly trying to outpowergame each other. It's a form of multiplayer contest, really.

Yes you click stuff to death, and it's very very easy.
I don't find the combat to be the most entertaining part of Elder Scrolls games though... it's the exploration, which is DEFINITELY more interesting than Oblivion's.
I also like the addition of many minor jobs... like chopping wood and stuff. It's a very sandbox roleplay friendly game.
Give this game a bit of time and you'll soon have a Francesco/Wanderer Edition/Project Nevada mod that fixes pretty much everything that is annoying.
This game will be one of the best games ever in a few years.

Combat is awful when you are not using bows or casting magic (but that one is just clicking and holding mouse buttons). But other than that the game gives a plenty of stuff to do which sort of negates the potential drawbacks.

Since I know I will be switching game to Arkham City in a few days I decided to cheat a bit with my character and see what all the fuzz with Enchanting is about.
Feels like it took me about 500 enchanted iron daggers until I reached 100. It was tedious even with cheats haha...
Anyway eh... not abusing any alchemy/enchanting... I still reached about +160% Two-Handed damage. Think it's a 7 perk point investment to reach that... not bad at all. From a pure gameplay perspective it'd be silly to pass that up with any character... there's more than enough perk points to spend.

I just finished collecting all of the dragon priest masks...
And the final one is...meh....
But damn, that thing it summons is pretty much the most powerful thing I have yet to see, it would probably take 15 dremora lords to reach the same amount of power

As a non-Elder Scrolls fan I'd say it's playable, sort of enjoyable (better than Morrowing but with worse atmosphere overall - Morrowing just looked more... exotic and magical; and much better than Oblivion) and just as straight-forward as the previous games. So yeah, you mostly climb cliffs and click the opponents to Oblivion when you encounter them. There are better killing animations now though so it's more fun to slit throats, decapitate, stab in the belly, etc. Other than that - you do tons of copy-paste quests which follow either the "deliver something from point A to point B" or "kill 'em all and especially that one" templates, i.e. the game remains faithful to its predecessors. And I have lost all hope that Bethesda will ever manage to create a single NPC that looks even remotely "alive".
In short - it's not bad if you want to waste time and it's definitely better than the previous ES games.

I have yet to see an NPC look alive in any video game (cutscenes don't count).
That being said, if the small encounter and random events in Fallout 3 didn't impress you and you don't care about exploration nor NPC who constantly blurts out one of their two lines of dialogue as you're passing by then this game ain't for you.
It's cool to have dragons randomly appear and wreck s*** upon the guards chasing you tho

It's true that the NPCs normally look pretty artificial but certain games manage to relieve of fully bypass this by successfully adding certain human features. A good voice acting, clever dialogue and some well-scripted gestures can do wonders and there's more than one game that manages to achieve at least some of these (or all). The Elder Scrolls however have always had and apparently will always have the most dull NPCs among the RPGs (and in general), a little more than mobile map objects.

Ya, this may be true.
I'm quite fond of Crassius Curio, Vivec, Divayth Fyr, and Yagrum Bagarn however
That's another thing I feel Skyrim is missing: The political intrigues of Vvardenfell.
Alright, there's a civil war going on. Whoopty freaking doo.
Also thalmors, I guess.

I wish there was an actual civil war going on, instead the factions just wait until dova takes either side and make him do ALL the work.

Well, to be fair, there are guards from different factions running into each other from time to time.
The stormcloacks especially are hunted by the thalmor as well.
But yeah, no big skirmishes or anything.

Scripting a more believable civil war in such a huge world would have been a pain (and would add another truck of bugs to the pretty long train). What annoys me is the scale. It doesn't look like a clash of two armies but like a gang war in the neighbourhood. I defended Whiterun vs. the Stormcloaks and the attack consisted of 20-25 people (and some invisible catapult). Went to some field forts later and their garrisons were even smaller. Hardly impressive.

1) the siege of Whiterun starts
2) alt tab
3) open Mount and Blade
4) play a battle
5) alt tab back into Skyrim

If anyone played New Vegas with the Increased Wasteland Spawn mod you know how awesome big faction battles can be, and that it's highly possible to add into the game.
Fiends vs NCR outside the city... blood and corpses everywhere... and the sound of gun and laserfire never stops.
We'll definitely see something similar for Skyrim. Uh without the guns and lasers though.
