I switched between recruiting from the overall townscreen and the individual buildings, depending on my needs in HoMM III. I've used both features, depending on what I was doing at the time.

Not at all. You don't seem to know what the Fort/Citadel/Castle building helps you with, apart from adding defenses and increasing the population cap. Thus - an enlightenment is in order.

Where do you get these ideas? I just couldn't remembered that functions you imply existed in H3 as I played the game for a short time because I don't like it, and with the first reply I remembered they existed and edited my post. So you can drop that "I created this little mountains attitude" which is really childish.

Perhaps, but I wouldn't say that claiming something without checking first is very mature. In any case, you'll do well if you play a bit more than "for a short time" before making statements. Nobody stopping you from not liking it but when you say something which is objectively incorrect, you're very likely to get a correcting response from some mountain creator.

But my statement is not "about" that misrememberance you are stuck with. It is about how I never use seperate buildings to hire creatures. That H3 thing was just an additional thing, which I deleted afterwards. You seem to look forward to some opportunities to show that arrogant attitude really.

I would like to add that not having a fort made the clicking on the individual buildings feel like you really wanted one so you could just click the main castle in order to recruit. I believe this feature is in every heroes--even heroes V.
That part of the game seems to be gone... *baby dolphins crying*

The game wouldn't be the same without town screens, I really hope they take the extra time to add them.It doesn't even have to be a 3d version, just look at Homm 3, even a 2d view of the town can add so much to the atmosphere.

today's video made me sooooooooooo happy... and soooooooooo sad... the town window looks... ... ... anemic.
I really do hope they make this a priority in an expansion or dlc to make true town screens.

How does it look "Warcraft-ish"?
That looks terrible, Warcraft looked good, it was heavily stylized true, but it wasn't half-assed like this thing.
Even if you think Warcraft III and WoW look terrible, they are terrible in a very different way.
(of all the things I hate WoW for, I hate it mostly for ruining the good rep of the franchise... well that and the lore... dear gods wtf were they smoking all the way through classic up to Cata?!)

I clicked this thread a few mins ago before reading the news thread and at first thought that this screen Darklord had posted was some kind of a homemade joke. Didn't pay much attention to it (as like "not very funny anymore tbh"), and only after reading responses started to suspect this was the real thing.
I'm officially laughing at myself for preordering

I've been sitting on the fence with this until now. The fact towns appear in windows I can handle, just about. However, the Haven screen shown there looks exceedingly amateur and not in keeping with the rest of the game, which is otherwise shaping up well.
They've got 3 months to fix this. Given the present state I think the only way that'll happen is if they commission a decent 2d fantasy artist to start from scratch and produce a coherent piece of artwork rather than a terrible two minute photoshop*. Actually, as Avirosb showed with his H2 town window mock up, a two minute photoshop can look a lot better than this. The buildings don't even look like they belong there, the light's wrong... it's all wrong.
*Ok last strand of fading optimism... maybe at a higher resolution it'll look less artificial and maybe the horrible mismatched building lighting issues are due to some kind of active animation that sweeps sunbeams across the town... (gotta have hope sometimes)

I propose that when the game releases, we host a modding contest for who can create the best "fix the town-screen" mod!
Please note that converting town screens from previous Heroes games to fit, DOES count.
Call it, "the nostalgia edition"

I remind you that the damn fixed town window stays damn fixed also at higher resolutions. Or at least that's what Ubi told us last.
...har har har, no strands of optimism left now

You are silly people!
Don't you think It's just a temporary image for the beta? The town screen testing is not a part of the beta-test. So Maybe Beta just will not spoil the beauty of the actual town screen for us before the game will be released?
It's just the same model as on the map! No other buildings. And from that perspective the castle walls will close all other parts of the town. + rough cutting of the textures on the sides of current screen.
Do anybody really think that They will allow such ugly screen to be presented in the game, where other graphical part is near to excellency?
