I think the Town Window is here to stay....the one in the open beta will change (for example, animation of the town will include buildings as you build them), but it will still be a Town Window. It's a pity, but maybe with lots of gameplay we will come to realise why Ubihole made the Town a Window.....

Quote: You unlock the wolves at level 50 by pressing the tab button and typing "nwcfriendshipismagic".
This will make a Black Dragon called 'Titan' appear randomly on the map.
Once the boss monster has been defeated, a treasure chest will appear,
revealing the location of another, hidden treasure chest, containing the fabled 3 Pink Wolves of Rainbow Land.
Losing the wolves will make you automatically lose the game.
The cheat cannot be typed twice or the game will crash.
Are they serious? That reminds me of Diablo II Secret Cow Level

There is no reason! There is no great plan behind it. They just didn't think it was such a big deal, and already decided to go with windowed interfaces, so why not do the same with the town screen? Making it a fixed size also saves a little work for other, more important things, like plagiarizing celebrity pictures, making identical creature models and creating a story-driven, character-centered game.
That's the thought behind it.
And when people complain the strategy is as follows:
Stress the point that the screens are not finished at all cost and at every instance. Make sure people know we are working on them (as we have for the last nine months). When we post pictures of the screen make sure to zoom it in so that people forget how tiny it really is. And if we just wait long enough people will get used to using them, and come up with a reason for making them this way.
/venting ended.

I would actually be fine with it--
IF
It were actually a separate window that could be maximized. If, in Windows 7, you could drag the town window to the top of the screen and have it maximize itself, that would be fine with me. More than fine - it would be ideal. Because then I could drag it to my second monitor.

Identical character models? Sorry, but I really did NOT notice that in-game.
This however:

Quoted for truth!
I think its so sad that the chance that we will get proper town screens is like 0.1%

You've got the wolves, and potentially two more (water and light). But I was really referring to the wolves, since they were made after the delay.

The first map I make for Heroes 6 will have this.. but possibly with a twist. *muahahaha* lol.
I've got to imagine that they're doing something with the Town Window. I'll be frightened if they aren't.
How much time do you think it'd take them to make a quality town window (non 3d like homm5) for this game? It seems fairly easy, especially compared to the art of each creature, terrain, and background. It's essentially just a picture that has another picture pasted onto it when triggered by building that building. Seems straight forward.

Not that long. Right now I'd be happy with the childish scrawl of a 3 year old if it was full screen.
Behold the glory.

Avirosb, Brohoof, dude! I gonna try this in the beta!
---
Oh Shi! It really works! Now my pre-beta became a full-functional game with 10 towns (H5 towns + nagas + forge) and beautiful town screens!
Seriously, I hoped that those ugly screens were a placeholder, but as time goes my believing in good is drained by a black hole.
It's a matter of a one work week for a skilled 3d artist to make a townscreen in 2D for H6. I mean they already have castle, capitol, tavern and spec. buildings. Only thing is missing is dwellings. 7 buildings in total to be made. And for 2d picture they can be very simple to modeling because artist can not care about optimization and stuff. Then simply place all buildings in the right spots of the screen and TADA! Townscreen! At least in H4 quality (much better then H6)
Is it THAT hard to do?

Depending on how moddable the UI is, it should be very possible to replace the town art with at least a 2D image of a 3D rendering, possibly even multiple versions to produce an evolving town screen.
That along with scaling the town UI.
If they stick to their claim of making it as moddable if not more moddable then HoMMV, the community should be able to fix it.
And if we can get such a mod enough following, it might be possible to have them integrate it into the game standard, this has happened before with various games, ranging from Minecraft to WoW.
Popular mods have very real potential to become permanent additions to a game.
Of course that is the "second best case" scenario, which you should bear in mind is more often then not simply idle hope.
(best case scenario is obviously they completely overhaul and properly implement a real town screen for the final release or an early patch)
Edit: BTW any minecraft fanatics here besides myself?

Signed. The current "town windows" are utterly appalling, and a slap in the face to one of the most visually engrossing trademark features of the Heroes franchise.
Heroes I had better-detailed, better-looking and FULLSCREEN town screens, for pete's sake.
I mean, look at this. Blows HVI windows out of the water in terms of detail and actual representation of the town, and it's what, sixteen years old now? Seventeen?
